Thanks for the video! I am wondering about the cancellation that you mentioned at the end. If you are allowed to transfer lessons to another teacher and be very flexible, why is there a problem with cancellations? I don't cancel often, but sometimes I have to, maybe because of internet issues or family issues. How do they handle last-minute cancellations or internet problems?

I believe they only hire Native US/Canadian teachers. You can try and apply though! Good luck.
@TrainerHema19 күн бұрын
Making asian learners learn from native speakers is absurd. Do these companies know how hard it is for Asians to understand their accents. It would be wiser to hire asian teachers with degrees to teach in Asian countries.

A Chinese company paying $14 an hour!! Unheard of! Having your views on Taiwan is one thing, but deliberately baiting the Chinese (who indeed know no better, and can't say differently anyway), and ruining the reputation of a teaching company and all its employees, and within a CHILDREN'S class?? Destroying the reputation of Britain too, as if they didn't think badly enough of us already. He's clearly an addicted attention-seeker and presumably very lonely. I hope he finds peace.

Has the video maker tried these methods himself? Somehow I don't think so. Family and friends, flyers in the local community, Facebook etc... You will be lucky if you get one student in five years with these methods, if you are from the West (if you live somewhere where $5 an hour is a reasonable income, then your position is different). In many cases the parents (who pay for the classes) are 50 - 60 years old. They spend their days mowing the lawn and watching television. They don't have Instagram and Tiktok accounts.....
@onlineteacherdude128422 күн бұрын
So pessimistic and negative. Have you tried these methods? Do you have a better way? These are just some tips that have worked for many tutors. Exactly what parents are 60 years old paying for classes for their kids? If your targeting children for your tutoring business, you would be reaching parents who are between 30 - 40 years old and yes, they most definitely have Instagram and tiktok.
@briansykes280614 күн бұрын
@@onlineteacherdude1284 I ask if you have tried these methods? I don't think you have, otherwise your video and comments would have a better connection with reality. I teach students aged 17 - 20, so the parents are not 30 years old. Many studies have shown that there are at least 50 tutors for every student in subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, physics and English. You can check this for yourself. Also a great many tutors are charging $ 5 an hour or less, since they live in countries in SE Asia or Africa where $ 5 is a significant sum of money. If you teach your subject in German you have a better chance, since the only cheap competition then is from Namibia.

Great video, thank you! I've only taught adults, online, and it's how I want to continue. Not interested in having to entertain kids, some of whom don't even want to be there! While freelance is my intention, I was interested in Twenix, as opposed to Preply or Cambly who pay badly and about whom I've heard some bad things (never mind Native Camp!). You said about the multitasking, which is the nature of teaching *to an extent*, but is there a way of doing the error correction at the end of the class rather than during, while you're trying to engage with the student and teach? There's dealing with errors as they arise, and emergent language, which is normal, but the whole selecting the error and putting in the chat - can this be done at the end of the lesson, at all? How is this error correction in the chat sent to the student, do you know (I mean there must be a chat summary they get?)?
@onlineteacherdude128420 күн бұрын
Hi there, with Twenix, their system is to note the error in the chat and then review it after that section. That's about all I know to be honest. I taught a few classes but they are fairly rigid on that part of things.

This is something that's been on my mind for some time now so I got my tefl tra I was a fitness coach for many of years but I got into traveling and I figured I would love to teach English and also travel around the world I love teaching and I thought this is a great opportunity but a lot of companies want you to have your bachelors not all but most. I have my diploma of 2 years education fitness and health promotion, my question is if I go and do another 2 years of fitness and health just to get my bachelor's what would that benefit a student trying to learn English why would a company want you to have your bachelors if it's not going to be beneficial for the student I honestly feel like I'm wasting two years of my life and money down the drain just to teach a student.

I wouldn't think students in China can access TPT - TPT is a US based website for teachers to find resources for their classes. Are you wanting to sell digital products to Chinese students? That's a tough one for sure but you could use WeChat to promote them to your contacts.

Hi Tim, My husband applied to Lingostar through your link about a week and a half ago. He filled out all of the paperwork, uploaded his degree and TEFL certificate. And he was invited to do a demo teaching video which he did. After that he received an email from them saying : “We are pleased to inform you that your demo video on Lingostar has been approved. Congratulations! You can now proceed with the next steps. Click the button below to view the details. Also, please refer to the salary structure of Lingostar shown in the image below for your reference Then he was sent an email asking him for a photo and a 1 minute introduction video to get him scheduled." - which he did. Now, 4 days later he received this email…”We regret to inform you that your application process to become a teacher on Lingostar has not been approved. The reason for this decision is that . - no reason given.
@WeDidntExpectthisАй бұрын
After the email that congratulated him was also another followup email with a link asking him to start to review the training with all their rates and bonuses - here's part of what it said "Congratulations! You have passed new teacher training tasks! Moreover, it is crucial to prioritize the Regular Courses. We have attached two files, "Lingostar Curriculum Design" and "Notes for Regular Classes," for your reference. Kindly read through the attached materials thoroughly as your teaching will be evaluated based on the regular classes. If our Teaching Quality Team identifies any points mentioned in the materials, appropriate follow-up actions will be taken..." with extra instructions for his teaching with them. My husband had sent them a couple of emails during this process with questions they never replied to. The entire thing appears to be AI generated - doesn't seem like there are any 'real' people there. Also worth mentioning - they asked him to keep 20 hours open a week (not 10 which is more usual). Any ideas?? Anyway, since you are a 'mover and shaker' is there any chance to could contact them as of course it's in your interest too? If you want I can email you his name. Thanks Tim - you're the best!
@onlineteacherdude1284Ай бұрын
Hmm, that's ODD and frustrating! Can you push them with another reply asking why - it could be a glitch? Let them know he was already accepted and you would like to know the reason why after sending the intro video is it rejected...

I saw something online about Lingostar and I have been wanting to teach online for awhile. I had a choice between subbing locally or coming online. With subbing I would not be able to go to the same place daily and that is a bummer. I think being able to meet individuals would be so much better. You mention a passport. Heck, I never had one of those. I have been parked in the states for all my life. I suppose that could take a state issues identification or drivers license. What do you think? Nice to see you that had a video on Lingostar. Take care!
