My experience was with Limited Run Games for the NeoGeo Pocket Collection on Switch. I waited over a year for my game, but this was during the pandemic so it was understandable. They said there was a shortage on foil. Then they proceeded to explain the process of foil, which I found a bit condescending. By the time I got the game, I didn't even want it anymore. And the fact that they don't refund you completely is bullish*t. You shouldn't pay a penny to get your refund back. You provided them money, they couldn't hold their end of the deal, so you should get your money back with no issues. If anything, they should give YOU something extra for waiting so long.

I think it depends on the game, Jedi Survivor(PS5) disc is useless. Not only the game is runs like as but, the game is not even entirely in the disc. On the other hand, the PS4 version is a very solid build fully patched. However, both versions will have their own bugs regardless if it's updated or not. Even the there's QOL updates missing, a NG+ or something like that, IMO, as long as the game runs well and it's fully playable beginning to end, you're fine. I always check DoesItPlay to see if the disc/cartridge is worth it.

Aside from their unethical pre-order practices of holding your money hostage from months to years, the product quality over time has degraded from most of these companies. The L company mentioned in the beginning of the video tried to cut corners on the legendary game D by the late Kenji Eno, and when doing a limited run of a collectors edition which was to include a physical copy for the 3DO, they cheated customers by using CD-roms which don't work in all 3DO consoles and are cheap to produce. Luckily there was enough backlash for that niche game and they finally (like half a year later) started sending out proper pressed copies of the game. They never formally announced this issue on social media, only through private emails with customers who actually complained, and never apologized. That means theres probably other customers who don't know about this issue and only have the CD-R. They tried to cheat people because they assumed that people would never even open the Collectors Edition to play it. They just think all their customers are scalpers trying to sell their artificially scarce low quality repros. I hope more people wake up to this, they're trying to take advantage of nostalgia and ripping off actual collectors while encouraging scalpers to profit. Like you said, when buying figures and other Japanese merchandise from retailers like Goodsmile, amiami, or hobbylinkjapan, you are never charged until the item is in stock and ready to ship. Western preorder practices are a joke.

I feel the same way you do. I’ve been lucky because the games I’ve wanted have all gotten standard print releases in Japan so I never needed to order from one of these limited type companies. River City Girls 1&2 got a standard combo pack release in Japan. Bloodstained Curse of the Moon 1&2 got a standard combo pack release in Japan. DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu got a standard Japanese release. Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade got a standard Japanese release. So no money from me for those limited companies lol, thank goodness we live in a time when getting stuff shipped from Japan is so easy.

These modern overrated Indie games and physical games are really not worth the hustle, I simple recommend not buying anything at all until you find a game you do like and finished it. I rather miss out ounce than being a slave and pre order 20 games I dont even know yet.

It is very frustrating. I rarely buy from Limited Games. Also the delays, and unknown when an item will be delivered. You could be waiting for years, and it might not ever arrive 🤦 Also the price tag. Ugh no thanks. It is super stressful

I hate to say it, but collecting physical games, Limited or otherwise will soon to be mainly for investment purposes. The Switch 2 may keep it alive for a good few years....I'll help!, but new Sony and Microsoft consoles will be all digital. My day 1 copy of Gran Turismo 7 on PS5 almost 3 years ago only had a fraction of the game on disc. PC gamer's have been mostly digital since Valve released Half-Life 2 on Steam- maybe it's time console manufacturer's develop their own operating system that can transcend new consoles whilst creating modular hardware for backward compatibility

Sony just announced that they will be putting an end to burnable disc production. This is the first step to a true all digital future now. There won't be anymore physical games, movies or anime soon within the next 2-3 years now.

Without hearing you say who they were. I guess it's 2 of the Strictly Limited, 1st Press Games and Ready To Dispatch now known as City Connections. I have pre-orders with all of that still have not been published.

personally I loved limited releases. it makes me feel like I get something special when I order them ❤ what I don't like is the scalpers who buy them just to resell later, and make them more expensive.
@Lord_Mangoat7 сағат бұрын
I get your point, but I also know that some of these limited print physical releases end up more than doubling in price. One such game I missed out on pre-ordering that I wanted was the Shantae and the Pirate's Curse collector's edition. I'm now looking at spending $400-550 for it. I think when it was up for pre-order it was likely around $100 or less. The long wait can be troublesome, but for me, I have a backlog of games. Sure, I want that game I pre-ordered 1-2 years ago, but I also have dozens of others I should also play that I already have in my hand.

This is exactly why I'm not a fan of those services, they promote themselves as being good for preservation and prey on people who want physical games, but they feed on fomo and make the whole game collecting space worse than it already is

I've never had issues with canceling even when it was kind of close to being released. One of the times I ordered from a limited company they sent me a digital code and they still let me cancel the physical because it took so long. So I actually got a free game but I didn't get the physical cuz I wasn't going to wait any longer.

I will stop spending money despite the issues happening. Maybe if all the companies shut down, they will learn to not listen to American audiences anymore. Companies need to stop trying to be American. Seriously, you're trying to follow a country that's known to lie and spread misinformation and censor education even amongst their own people? Is that what Japan wants to be?
@That_Lady_Charlie23 сағат бұрын
in the past year or two, i spent a lot of time - TOO much time - selling some Switch games, and using that money to buy the patched revision cartridges. which is ridiculous! it would be great if publishers gave me a complete game on a physical cartridge at launch 🥲 thank you for making a video about this. it definitely needs to be talked about more.
@whiskybaeКүн бұрын
I didn't think about this, but I think my outlook remains the same. I buy the game when I want to play it. There is no need for me to have another strategy. Anyway, if you do get stuck with an earlier version of the game on your cartridge or disc, then maybe there is some value in having the earlier version.

Overall, I'm glad later printings of some games include patches not present in the first release. But yeah, it's a messy market these days with patches and dlc everywhere.

I mean it doesn't invalidate any opinion. but using the "gamepass" version of games is never a great experience. they are different versions of the game from the version most other people are using on steam. But i understand that you wanted to use that for crossplay reasons?

They really showed nothing many didn't already know/expect, no information on distinguishing system features, specifications or games (other than the brief MK clip of course). I'll wait until we get more information before I'm interested. I need to see clips of more first-party games, possibly clips of backward compatibility etc. - I will never understand people who say "I'm pre-ordering day one!" when they have little/no official information on a platform, just the mere fact that it's releasing is enough to get them excited. I'm more pragmatic than that.

I buy games day 1 a lot because I like to part of the community talking about it. When I wait years or even months there is no one to talk to about it anymore. That being said you are absolutely correct and people should wait and not care about being part of the zeitgeist.

This is why I wait for Game of the Year versions to appear when I know a lot of DLC is going to be released for a new game. You always get the latest version and usually all DLC on the physical media that way.

As usual, the people who support games the most, are the most disrespected. It used to be just a case of a high price on release, but now we get doubly taken advantage of with new cart revisions.

This video is so cute... seriously... you're saying what we all think. For PC players - they gave up any right to ask for a feature complete - final version - decades ago. For Console players (I'm primarily a PlayStation player these days, after giving up on PC... for many reasons), I used to like the idea of buying "the game" on disc, but that's almost impossible unless you wait 12+ months for a "complete edition". I think the reality is we're being forced down the path of more or less accepting buggy "physical" media... or just accepting that you are meant to buy digital games (so you are entirely beholden to the platform holder as to what you have/how you have it). I still think Nintendo are the one company/platform that actually still seriously tries to provide the game that they say they are selling.... without having to pull down patches for months (if not years). Even they are moving towards digital storefronts.

Yeah, at some point people realize that they’re paying premium prices to basically beta test half finished games, some people are ok with that and sucks for them. There’s so many great games out there already that I rather spend my time and money on a masterpiece that I missed out on from a few years ago from the bargain bin or a reduced price re-release/re-master that already has the bugs fixed and the full DLC.
@shiningwizard3273 күн бұрын
Developers have grown a customed to patches. New games just are just demos now. And about re-selling/trading in the new game for the newer release with the patches, how would we even know that that particular game is going to get a re-release with the patches? Companies already hate selling physical media, and would prefer to sell digital anyway. It's all becoming convoluted at this point. Games before consoles went online (XBox360/PS3 generation) were complete at release. Modern gaming has become stupid now. I'm just gonna get a new hobby... like knitting. Who am I kidding, there's probably stupid practices going on in the knitting society as well.

I'm curious how that will work. So essentially a complete edition. Hmm 🤔 Price, and everything included. Now I'm wondering about Metroid Prime 4. I don't mind updating my games. I have never seen Nintendo games on sale. Unless Mar10 day. Curious what a complete edition version will cost. Good example with Smash, Ultimate aside from the more expensive subscription with Nintendo Switch Online This is fascinating, and kinda concerning. Buy day one? Or wait for a full version?

I agree but the part about saving a princess is going to be copy right and nintendo would sue anybody that copyrights there characters and not only that but sega rathers sticks sonic to save animals instead back in the 90s sonic was popular in japan and U.S. but after the adventure games they rushed with new releases but now sonic team two of its best games sonic frontiers and Sonic x shadow generations which thoses games Become the highest crossed all over the world.
@hamzaabdirahman16604 күн бұрын
The reason why sonic is not popular in japan is because Sega kept rushing with each game but when sonic frontiers was made it ended the 20 yrs of bad sales but hey i would agree with you on this one though.
