DLC should have its own category which is ongoing game of course cuz it's an ongoing game you are continuously trying to make it on going after the main game so DLC. There are a few more games that should have been within the game of the year category that won't get the recognition of being nominated the way they were robbed of it

The game show pretends to be community focused but then when it comes to voting 90% of votes come from their panel and the public vote is the other 10%. To me just that honestly makes the awards nothingness.

They already have a category that supposed to be for DLC and it's called ongoing game it's just that they should change the ongoing game category to online free to play that way the ongoing game category can be for the DLC. Or they are not ready to accept that perhaps the ongoing ongoing game category should have been a mixture of DLC and those free to play fortnite games but I'm guessing they don't want it to be like that

Yeah we think the dlc thing is weird too. But advertisers probably wanted it. The whole show is really oriented around advertisers, including the categories. It’s better than it used to be! I think kinda! But yes. All you say is correct here.

DLC should be its own category. I voted on the categories I knew about but if my and all others votes only constitute 10% then it's pretty much pointless. -- Why would consumers be the ones voting right?

The DLC topic was big in a few communities I'm in. We all feel that DLC needs its own category or be in the "Best ongoing game", since it is content that makes the game continue. DLC is not a game on its own, so it should not win game of the year. I've never been a big fan of reward shows. The only reason I watch is for the random new game announcements thrown in. It is all a popularity contest at the end of the day. Some years a good game might win, but out of popularity and something amazing misses out. Often this is the case for JRPGs, since the west doesn't seem to enjoy those too much. Don't get me wrong on this, we do enjoy them here, but it is never at the level of an award winning status for some reason.

Game Awards is a joke. DLC being GOTY? Dumb. Didn't they catagorize Monster Hunter as an RPG? I just watch the highlights of what games they premiered, but even that's lame because every game looks the same these days.The best thing that ever happened to that show was when the drunk developer who made "A Way Out" went off.

I am all for this SOTE being nominated. Even though it may be DLC, the fact we have 2 remakes, (I think FF7R and SH2R iirc), and literal solitaire as nominees, despite them being remade from the ground up, it can be argued that all four aren't exactly original in their own right either. To say a DLC isn't a game isn't true at all. While you need to buy the base game to play said DLC, the mix of the DLC within the base game will affect the outcome of the game itself, and the DLC is a part of the game itself, therefore the DLC is the game as well. That, and the code for the game already exists within the game itself, so technically SOTE is the game as much as the base game itself, despite being entirelt optional. That, and the fact that a DLC is of such quality that it can even content with such juggernauts is kind of mind boggling. Adding to the fact, we have had remakes and DLC being awarded GOTY in the past, so I think SOTE does deserve a shot at GOTY as well. It was ultimately past choices from GOTY that led to where we are now. Whether nor not SOTE does win GOTY, or lose its spot won't affect me, but it would be quite funny to see if it did win. That is my jargon and idk why I typed this up on my phone, haha 😂

if you look at the previous game awards, there have been multiple DLC competing for an award, I think the thing is, elden ring will not win game of the year this time, but since they have DLC before, it would have also been weird if they didn't add it. When you compare the size of the DLC, is bigger than some games that have been released this year. I think they are just nominated because how big it is, but they are not going to win.

I think it would be best to have a separate best DLC award but I think erd tree makes sense to be a nominee for game of the year. I think it would be better if a game was put over it as it is DLC but it is basically another game of content added on and can kinda fill the roll of a sequel. I don't think it should win but if it does I do understand why and won't be as annoyed as others but I think it will set a bad standard as most DLCs are not erd tree and don't deserve to be in the same place erd tree is. It's an amazing DLC but I think having another section to shine light on many more DLC would be best as some games got snubbed because of erd tree (eg Helldivers II). but ye it's an amazing DLC and while I don't want it to win for a few reasons if it does I get it ya know

If a DLC did something to completely change the base game, then I could see it getting GOTY - but that is not Shadow of the Erd Tree. Shadow of the Erd Tree was just more of the same content, so I don't think it deserved GOTY.

I think the whole DLC argument is true. DLC should not be in GOTY category. There should be a separate category for DLC's. Also, I think remakes and remasters should have their own categories. But since they don't, I will be voting for the DLC because I love it.

That award show is a waste of money and time. At this rate, just show trailers. They only spend a minute bringing up a list than just saying which game won... like... treat these games like the hobby that's suppose to matter to you..... like actual award shows! You see scenes from the movie, teams making the music, costumes, visuals, and effects. Either treat these games "AND THE PEOPLE WHO SLAVE OVER THESE CREATIONS" with respect or just go back to when they used to be seen as children's toys, because that award show needs an overhaul, badly. But keep Christopher Judge and Josef Fares. They were the most interesting and exciting part of these trailerfests...lol

I love Elden Ring, played all the dark souls and really have a soft spot for those games, but I still don't think a "dlc" should be able to get nominated for "game" of the year. Why not have a dlc of the year instead? Last years game of the year I watched was also just kinda garbage, rushed and filled to the brim with advertisment.

Given how robust it is in terms of game design (let alone yes, the dirty word, content), I think it's fair for it to be nominated. But I agree that the Game Awards are fundamentally flawed, however I see them as a symptom of the wider tendencies of the industry, much more so than the cause behind them. Granted, it's not helping, and any antidote against it would pretty much have to revolutionise the whole paradigm of the industry. They don't deserve to be the biggest event of the industry, I think.
