This fight could also be called “Anakin vs. Vader.” The whole time Palpatine and Luke talk they are speaking to two different personas under the same mask: Palpatine is talking to Vader while Luke is talking to Anakin. It’s a battle within himself that is happening at the same time he fights Luke.
