Great information, your insight on the stock tires is spot on. I was leaving the dealership, and it started to rain. At 65 mph, the tires broke traction, and I got sideways. Thank God the spin-out recovered without hitting anyone else. I got rid of the GoodYears and replaced them with Continental Extreme Contact tires. They are great in the dry and wet while not sacrificing grip in the corners. Thanks for the informative video. One happy ZL1 owner.

SS 1LE with a few engine mods is a better option. Then go all out with Katech 427. Have had both. ZL1 with an A10 is hard to beat though. No overheating issues. Lap times consistent. Miss that car.

Hey, thanks for the video comparison..., it was informative when you are on a shoestring budget. Just purchased some pads from you guys, and needed to learn more about the rotors on my Caddy BW. I'd been leaning to the Giro rotors when I have to replace them, but now it seems the DBA's might be the better choice, even though I don't track...., but I'm pretty heavy on it on I95. : )

Downside of one piece is that they conduct more heat into the wheel bearing assembly and the rotor tends to expand into a conical shape under heavy use (I have seen that first hand on my e92).
@throttle-theaterАй бұрын
Have you measured the temperature of calipers with each different type of rotor? Which rotor retains less heat, and therefore has better thermal capacity?
@RacingforALSАй бұрын
I have not, but I typically do a cool-down lap. Data from the pits would not be accurate. The DBA rotors are holding up well after 4 track days.

So is it worth making modifications to the stock airbox for more airflow like drilling some holes in the bottom to allow cooler air to come in like the hellcats do with their stock air boxes?

No, it will just allow hot air into the airbox.

What is your take on the M6 vs A10 debate?
@RacingforALS3 ай бұрын
The A10 is a fantastic automatic. It is faster than the M6 on the drag strip and road course. The M6 is more enjoyable on the street and the number of RWD V8 cars with a manual are becoming rarer. I would drive both.

@@mostwantedmotorsports Thanks and hope you have a blast! Was supposed to be going there in October as well, but way too many conflicts to make the trip. They had me at 23 on my front and 21 on my rears cold tire temp pressure, that is with 15 inch standard NASCAR slicks I think they were 9440s. At somewhere like VIR I’m 20 on the front and 18 on the back, so basically just a solid three psi up to handle the banking. And you’ll definitely see it on your slicks, as the banking takes a toll on the outside of those tires.! But again, have an absolute blast, Daytona is my favor track on the planet!! ❤️🏁🏁🏁

Thank you for the great video! Can I ask a question, but please excuse my incompetence. I need to replace brake rotors and pads on a Lexus GX460 and I am considering upgrading to DBA slotted rotors for greater braking. However some say they experience vibration and noise problems with slotted rotors and also the suspension is suffering more load/stress due to a better bite? Any advice is highly appreciated!
@RacingforALS3 ай бұрын
Properly installed pads and rotors should not vibrate. However, high-performance street pads and race pads can cause more brake dust and squeal during street driving when they are below racing temperature. The suspension will not be negatively impacted by improved braking performance.
@zhivkozhelev90513 ай бұрын
Thank you for the clear explanation! I think in this case I would go for a more standard slotted rotors. A bit more dust is not a problem, but hearing squeal would be a bit odd if too loud.

Please answer if you can sir. Im going to carolina motorsport in September. I have non 1le zl1, i do have the wing but not the aero in front but i dont know what size tire i should be running for track day? Any suggestions in tire brand and size for non 1le zl1
@RacingforALS4 ай бұрын
The factory-size tires 285/305-30-20 are fine for track use, and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires are great for a track day. If you are looking for an upgrade, then 305/325-30-19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires are 2-3 seconds per lap faster. I suggest upgrading the brake fluid to Castrol SRF. Make sure you have at least 60% brake pad thickness since CMP is a hard-braking track. There is a turn-by-turn commentary video on our channel.
@clipslord63644 ай бұрын
@@RacingforALS thank you so much for the reply, i only have 20” OEM wheels i dont think i can run 19 tires on it. I already did the brake fluid and pads. Do you think a 295/30/20 in the front and 315/30/20 on the rear is good? My zl1 makes about 650 whp if that makes a difference.

I'm not sure if you know but there is actually a another company out there that makes a kit for our cars and there are called electron motorsports based in Mooresville North Carolina and they actually have two-piece front and rears I've been looking into them and I will try to get more information but I've been considering this as an upgrade due to the two-piece designed for the rears

There’s a limited benefit of two piece rear rotors. 10 lbs of total weight and a slight cooling benefit.

I have not watched the entirety of the video throughout but I do have a question, It may have been answered but I noticed You said DBA rotor rings But reusing the OEM hat. Do you know if there's any significant improvement with the DBA hat and rotor kit? For whatever reason it's $50 more KNS brakes has two options for the DBA ring not sure if it's worth an extra $50 or not But that means I would have to buy the DBA kit first just like giro disc
@RacingforALS5 ай бұрын
This is covered in the conclusion of the video. Check it out! 😎
@cleysoptique87495 ай бұрын
So I watched the rest of the video however I don't think you understand what I'm getting at with my question. There are two products from DBA rotors. Option 1 is just the replacement rotoring utilizing you reusing the factory aluminum hat and that cost $337 per ring Option two, DBA offers a replacement rotor ring but only fits the DBA rotor hat, which means you have to have the full DBA rotor kit in order to use that specific replacement ring. But that specific replacement ring for some reason is $387 My question pertains to is there a specific difference between the rings and do they offer any more durability lightweightness what is it exactly that causes the same replacement rotary ring except utilizing the DBA hat to be $50 more does that make sense?@@RacingforALS

I replaced my brake fluid with Motul MTL100949 8068HL RBF 600, and after one full day of track day (brakes got really hot that day) and 2 autocross rides the brake fluid is pretty dark again. How often do i need to change my fluid on my 2018 1ss 1LE camaro?
@RacingforALS5 ай бұрын
I do not recommend Motul 600 or Motul 660 for track day driving. I've seen it cause problems for multiple cars and lead to brake fade. When people switch to Castrol SRF, all their problems go away. I've also heard good things about Endless and Brembo fluid, but I have exclusively run Castrol SRF for six years without a single complaint.
