I'm sooo confused. Is he being sarcastic or he saw an edit of the film without "Flea Bag" in it insulting Indiana everytime she opened her "pie hole". This man should be an actor for not breaking character bursting laughing 😂.

I’m on the opposite side. I grew up loving this franchise and while watching Kingdom of Crystal Skull again recently I found myself actually enjoying it more and not understanding everyone’s harsh critiques of it. All the crazy shit that goes down is just as crazy as Raiders, Temple, and Crusade. Was it overrun with CGI? Yeah, but you know why? It’s cheaper. That’s why studios continue using CGI is because it’s cheaper, but that’s not always a good thing. After watching Dial of Destiny I can firmly say that Kingdom is a better movie. Dial of Destiny is too long and not enough of the Indy action we’ve come to love. I left the theatre feeling absolutely nothing. No joy, anger, or sadness…just nothing. That’s how bad the movie is. It just left me feeling nothing.

To each there own mate, I think Dial took things to a much more interesting place where the character actually changed over the course of the film.

@@thesavagefilmmaker I loved what they did with Indy’s character, but I wish they would have done more with it. I didn’t really feel like they went as far with it as I think they could. Just too many misses on this one and it’s a shame it’s his send off film.

You're right. James Mangold doesn't create memorable actions scenes in this film. Is there a single memorable moment in the film? I can't think of any. This is not the fault of the script of the actors, it's Mangold. His action scenes are boring. Spielberg's sequences are inventive and full of imagination. Mangold's make me fall asleep.
@alexshotthese
@alexshotthese Жыл бұрын
@@robertpaterson5477 I think the additional 20-30 minute runtime this movie has doesn’t help, but also Harrison Ford is 80 years old. I could tell in some scenes when he’d start running that his age is definitely catching up with him. Sure they could swap a stunt double in to run faster, but then that’s even more unbelievable. I do think if they trimmed down the runtime that it all would have felt a little more faster and the action might have hit harder for me.
@robertpaterson5477

@@alexshotthese Yeah, it was long. But Spielberg's action films are always a treat. Instead we got Mangold's day old bread. He had no business directing an Indy movie, no business.

Did we see the same movie??? They took a beloved, optimistic, fun, heroic character and turned him into a miserable, broken defeated, old shell of his former self yelling at kids to turn their music down... I can't see how you enjoyed seeing your favorite fictional characters life going to shit... Where no one respects him his kid is dead his wife leaves his ass and he's just a drunk with nothing but regrets... You enjoyed that? He didnt even get to choose his own ending. Instead they had the insufferable ( I can do anything you can do better) female knock his ass out just try to to give us the same ending as crystal skull but its a 10x more depressing version. And hes still wanted for murder so i guess you can enjoy that kiss scene for 1 more minute until the cops knock down his door and he spends the last miserable moments of his life in prison... YEAH i don't see why people didnt LOVE THIS MOVIE. It just be haters looking for hate clicks *cluck* *cluck*... I'm glad you somehow enjoyed it though. But i certainly left that theater thinking Wow... How fkn depressing was that...

Indy has never been a particularly optimistic character. So him being grumpy and gruff is no different to any Indy film, that's Ford's MO. I didn't want to see exactly the same character with an unchangeable invincible aura, this man has lived a remarkable life, but at 78, all those remarkable things come at a cost and at the end, they're all just memories. So starting him as a victim of his grief and time itself playing his age seemed completely appropriate to me and a choice they weren't willing to engage with the last time around. Thats not where he or his story ends. It ends with the people that care about him and many of the people he saved, saving him and reminding him that we still need Indiana Jones. That seems appropriate to me and would not have resonated if he was just the same old untarnished Indy from the beginning. I like to see character growth and development.

@@thesavagefilmmaker I see what you're saying about him being human and not untouchable, and i agree that it would of been cool to see some flaws and growth because he's getting older. But if his growth and development is his whole life going to shit, and his kid dying and his wife leaving him and no one respects him even after all of his achievements and he would rather die than go back to that life is bullshit imo... I rather see him limited but still respected and maybe passing the torch but still has his experience and teaches the young to take his legendary torch. Not EVERYTHING sucks, no one cares what he did, and his whole life has gone to shit... And the ending was just literally the same as crystal skull but worse in every way, and hes still wanted for murder so hes fked... Disney did the same thing to Luke Skywalker this amazing man that would rather die then kill his own father giving up on everything he previously stood for... Im sick of seeing my childhood heroes become the complete opposite of what they were... But that's just me

It's fair to call out disingenuous or exaggerated criticism. There is a lot of sound and fury on the Internet. But many critiques of the film are rational and well argued, and some people had a different emotional reaction to the film than Disney felt entitled to receive. It's great that you enjoyed it.

Honestly, I think much of my grips is unrealized interactions, like the cia/nasa/nazi combo, spending more time in the past of Syracuse with archimedes, explored family interactions of marion, mutt, helena and other friends and voller being a actual physicist instead of historian. Thematically its good, though I think the more emotional scenes earlier on are bit too quick. Otherwise, movie's fairly good just wish it could balance the maguffin and his old age, give him more reason to want to go back to the future. Also think it could use more comedic scenes, that punch could really use a one liner.
@Buckeyefarmer
@Buckeyefarmer Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you liked it. I think they they sucked the life out of it by making Indy divorced and killing his son then blowing up his friends who helped him go diving for the tablet. Also, Helena leaves him for dead, steals the dial, & her character is all over the place as far as whatever they wanted her to be. Then she's the one who becomes the lead at the end hoping on the motorcycle to board the plane and save the day. The movie doesn't look or feel like an Indy movie. Action falls flat. Any attempt at humor falls flat as well. It doesn't flow at all like an Indy movie and is way too long. I thought the final scenes back in time were cool, but the thing is, the whole setup for Indy is so depressing & Helena is such a c nt to him, there's really no energy driving it. It's so bad, especially after he's the reason his friends get killed, that I just wonder why Indy didn't just grab a gun and commit suicide.

I haven't seen it yet but I will, it does seem to be scoring well in reviews despite some naysayers. I think there's a lot of understandable push back against the serialization of every IP, they seem to make better movies when they're not designed to get you to see the next movie. I don't want to wait for the cool stuff and plot resolution in a later movie. Indiana Jones and Star Wars, they didn't start out as part 1 of x.

This movie was more a character piece than it was action adventure movie like the original trilogy. When the action and adventure was happening, it was bare bones average and it’s just not what people wanted. James Mangold is great with characters (take Logan for example) and when you focus on that aspect on Indiana Jones himself, it’s a very well done, heartwarming film. It’s still a good film, your average person is just missing the point, calling out all the flaws and letting that deter their judgment to calling it nothing more than just trash

Would you mind doing a part 2 to this and going into some more detail, maybe addressing the criticisms head on? I was really hoping for a serious review that laid out what was really good about it. Sadly, this felt a little hollow and possibly paid for?? I mean, you definitely hit on a lot of introspective points, but how you feel isn't really something objective that we can all look at and agree/disagree on. I haven't watched anything else you've done so maybe this is just your speil when reviewing films. Regardless, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

As you say to each their own.... but I saw this on release day with my wife and 13 y/o daughter and i'm an 80s kid that love the originals, but this movie was boring AF my wife felt asleep and my daughter was searching her phone for entertainment that she wasn't having at the movie,...my experience was totally different than yours and I'm happy for you.... but this movie is not better than crystal skull and that's saying a lot, the best for me were the first 20 minutes in the beginning, but again with the broken hero deconstruction..... same sht they did to Luke Skywalker.... why????... you could have chosen the jurassic park approach to have the new character in some island with another tribe place that needed the hero experience to get the macguffin and probably would have been better to what we got. But nope a broken man that wombat has to trick to steal his old macguffin, ... she left him with the bad guys, who previously killed his coworkers and left to sell the artifact and didn't give a dammed about indy.... she becomes unlikable from the start.... but hey, i didn't hate her character but blame her writing. What i did not enjoy at all was the last 20 minutes with the rome invasion.... for me the best indy movies that never got where the Mummy, and National treasure😂
