Thank you - and yes, she's wonderful! <3 I'm using a paper I've only been able to find here in South Korea, sadly. I think it's a collab with Fabriano...? If it helps, it's a 250g paper and the sketchbooks come with wax paper in-between each page, so I'm trying to find something similar from international brands in the future. :)

Beautiful video as always! I was glad to see what came of those bear-themed thumbnails you did in the past for your folklore pieces. Sadly I have no advice to offer for travel sketching as it's hard for me to even leave the house, let alone even go to a cafe. I enjoy seeing other people do it though. I will likely get to try that out once I'm able to go back to Canada. (Currently sort of going back and forth when able since I'm in the states, my wife is Canadian and I'm not immigrated yet, for a bit of context). Anyway, the sketches you did manage to make were lovely and I can feel how glad you were to be in those places, even if you painted them when you got home. To me personally, anything you draw while traveling counts as a travel sketch even if it's a piece of fanart simply because it felt different to do it where you were.
@evydraws-art7 күн бұрын
Thank you - I'm so happy you remembered those bear sketches! With how long video editing takes, there's some magical time distortion going on here, as I actually started that painting immediately after the sketches! Since you mention being stuck at home: During the sketchbook flip-through in the beginning, a lot of those studies were views from our window and even just flower pots and still life "scenes" at home because I was stuck at home myself. I feel like those simple scenes still helped prepare me for "proper" travel sketching, which is really just a love letter to places we visit. ♥ (And yes, studies or even fanart feel so different if we're just not at our usual drawing spot!)

"Just go for it" is the perfect description for them. I was worried at first but the color combinations work really well together, so even if I mess up, the colors still look beautiful together. If you miss an eraser option, you could go for a very light pencil sketch underneath! :)

Really? I was the first view and everything this time? I use the loomis method myself when drawing faces, but I have yet to really deep dive into it. I've been meaning to, but as I've mentioned in previous comments (if you happen to remember, no worries if you don't), I am still struggling with my art. I've made some great progress with that and am now tempted to do the 100 heads challenge to improve on this method! (I won't have a time limit for mine though, usually it's 10 days or something). Anyway, as always I love seeing videos from you. Beautiful work as always :)
@evydraws-art14 күн бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching - it's definitely not my usual posting time or day :) And yes, I remember and I'm glad to hear it's going better! The 100 heads challenge is something I've been eyeing for a while, but a bit scared to start. I think taking away the time limit makes it much more approachable, those ten days only sound incredibly difficult and might just be stressful in the end. I might have to give at least a 50 heads challenge a try if you're going ahead with it ;)
@TheBlackHatOutlaw14 күн бұрын
@@evydraws-art That sounds good, maybe do a part 1 and part 2, 50 heads each with it not mattering how long it takes. I hope to try to keep them all in the same sketchbook, but that also depends on how much room I have in mine currently. Maybe even a head or two each time I go to do art as a warm up. 🤔
@evydraws-art14 күн бұрын
@TheBlackHatOutlaw I really like that idea! Before, I had a tiny sketchbook in which I only drew portraits - though not a hundred, just around eighty, and that was so much fun! Having them in a single sketchbook gives a very complete sense to a challenge like this (but I'd still be tempted to try different drawing materials so I'd probably draw some on different paper...) ✨
@TheBlackHatOutlaw14 күн бұрын
@@evydraws-art you could always perhaps add the different papers TO the sketchbook if it's the same size. I've seen people finish a challenge digitally, then print it out and add it to the sketchbook with the rest of it just so it is visible all in one place! Also, I think I really am going to do this this time as I already gathered my first 25 heads that I WANT to draw. Last time I tried, it was someone else's pinterest board that, like you mentioned in your video, I had no connection to. That made it boring.

Thank you for your sharing your experience with the Hwawon oil pastels. I found your review incredibly helpful. I currently own the Mungyo 120 color oil pastel set and am considering purchasing the Hwawon set as well. Given your experience with both brands, would you recommend adding the Hwawon pastels to my collection? Your expert opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
@evydraws-art17 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Now, I only had the 72 color set by Mungyo (and some extra shades), not the full set of 120, so your experience might be a bit different, but I really loved the softer, muted shade that Hwawon added to my color palette! Their application is quite similar, Hwawon a bit drier and better for line drawings than Mungyo, but Mungyo work better when filling in large areas. If you love painting small portraits or botanicals, I think the Hwawon would be a great addition, but if you're more focused on large landscapes, then the Mungyo set might be perfect for those by itself. :) At least in my experience! I hope this helps 🥰

Great video! I was very interested to hear thoughts on AI from a professional like yourself, thanks for sharing that. I do think some aspects of the "AI taking over everything" notions are a bit premature. However, I find it pretty frustrating that so much of AI's development is centered around creative arts instead of automating things humans don't want to do.
@evydraws-art22 күн бұрын
Hi, thank you for dropping by! :) And I completely agree on the "taking over everything" - that's mostly a marketing gimmick, and all the projects that I worked on that wanted to use generative content really were held back by it, not improved, and the focus on replacing artists of all kinds is so strange to me.

Hey, Eve, earnest creations here. First of all: congratulations on the video, it's speech, each take and it's content, very organized; feels very pleasant to watch. As for AI, I'll start by stating the following: Artificial Intelligence is everything except the one thing that's being commercialized as: intelligent. That's pure marketing right there. It's a great tool for whoever is already immerged in the fields of visual communication, but no more than a scalpel in the hands of a non-surgeon. Now, the problem is that most people already know that they cannot just take a knife and do surgeries, but they are not aware of any lacking knowledge regarding this field. So, they don't think they need an expert or dedicated human being. Just like you've mentioned, most businesses will try to bypass artists and designers. I don't know for how long before they realize. Artificial "Intelligence" lacks connection, lacks emotion, lacks coherence. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic development and we have to be proud of the brilliant geniuses behind those projects, but it's far from being intelligent, it doesn't learn and it shouldn't be able to replace any intelligent being. What it CAN replace is mediocre marketing statistics-led stuff, like Marvel movies for example, but could never make a Woody Allen's movie.
@evydraws-artАй бұрын
Hi, so happy to see you here! Thank you for the kind words - I enjoy making these videos and having room to think and share and draw beyond the usual 10 seconds of short form videos. And thanks for bringing up the "intelligence" part! I focused a lot on what all the scraping and regurgitating means for creativity, but didn't touch at all on some of the larger issues, like how generative language models, for example, are now just universally labelled as "intelligence". It really has become such a keyword in marketing (at least here in Korea, I feel like every other tech or design ad tosses the word AI around) and that erases the actual use cases for these programs out there, and in my opinion, pushes their development in the wrong, less interesting directions. :/ It's a weird, weird world!

I did some digging (since we found mine as the last remaining one at a local art store, and on sale 🙂) - it's the Mabef M17, and I've added a link to the description. Though other "H-Frame" easels by Jackson's Art and similar brands exist, too. Generally, the H-frame ones are very sturdy! What I really like about the M17 is the adjustable height of the tray. The lowest setting is perfect when I'm sitting down, but I can also raise it to stand at my desk while painting, or to get a better angle for small art.

I have mixed feelings about AI that I won't get into much here, but I do know that people are losing their jobs from it as a friend of mine lost his recently as it rendered his entire department obsolete. He was not an artist or in a creative field, to clarify. It has also lit a fire in me to continue creating and somehow that fire gave me more courage to make what I am truly passionate about, so I can definitely relate to that. Your final painting, Pillars of Creation, is gorgeous! I remember watching your vlog with the concept art!

Thank you so much for the kind words! The "Pillars of Creation" were mostly painted late at night so I was hesitant about using some of the footage - but in the end, I really wanted to show the process, completing what started in that sketchbook video. 💕

I think of my "freelance" work - like the storyboards, for example - as the day job, and then commissions and my personal art as the fun part, so while that's still a juggle act, it can't be compared to studying medicine of all things!
