I instantly recognized the characters and this scene, so I think you captured their likeness quite well. And overall it's a beautiful painting! The linseed oil blending process was fascinating to watch. I only have a special linseed oil for water-soluable oils, so I gotta try if that will work with my new oil pastels.

You make me want to try this medium. I very much love working with colored mixed media, and my technique often feels like sculpting - pushing colors around. This looked just like that. But I also prefer working small, and this media doesn't seem meant for that but the results still looked lovely. Absolutely fantastic video! Dune 2 is as visually evocative as 1, though it is significantly more violent. If you want to try a movie that's much older and more fantasy oriented with some great visuals: Legend (1985)

If you enjoy pushing colors around, I definitely recommend oil pastels - they're very intuitive and tactile. I used them on very small formats in my other oil pastel videos if you're curious about how small they can go. :) I loved the visuals of Part 2! I might try another Lady Jessica portrait at some point to show that transformation from the first movie to the second one. But for quicker thumbnail studies, some older movies would be fun for sure. Lighting and color palettes have changed a lot over the decades, so that might be interesting to compare! 😊

To be honest I'm trying to understand how you can have so much patience when painting! Looks really nice, and I love that you're unconventional and use different mediums to create beautiful art! Also, I simply cannot understand how you can use the chunky pastel to create small details like eyebrows and the iris of the eyes 😮 black magic!

Thank you so much! 💙 the secret to my patience are good audiobooks that make the time fly...! :) The chunky oil pastel sticks are surprisingly easy to draw details with, there's always a sharp edge somewhere to use, and sometimes I use the other end of the oil pastel sticks since that side is still protected by the wrapping paper and can create extra precise lines!

The first video I saw from you, actually, was a review of oil pastels, and it's good to see you're still up for using oil pastels! That first video inspired me to try oil pastels as well :') absolutely lovely painting! Mixing oil pastels with linseed oil is something I'm also considering, since I LOVE the smooth appearance it creates! Like the only reason I haven't yet tried oil paint is because I hear it tends to smell bad, and it *is* toxic after all, so I suppose I would need a bigger open space to paint in or ventilation, none of which I have lol -- but mixing oil pastels with linseed oil gives that effect!

Thank you - I'm curious how you like oil pastels so far! :) I love the new dimension linseed oil brings... And I'm actually in a similar situation when it comes to oil painting! I'm worried about how to store slow-drying paintings, the mess it might create, and especially since my work space is in the same open area as the kitchen and table where we eat AND we have a cat, I'm not comfortable painting with them. This felt like an alternative that scratched the "soft blending itch" I had 🥰

@@evydraws-art I must say, oil pastels and the way I've used them so far (without linseed oil blending) are, of course, different from the simple coloring pencils I'm used to, and require a different technique for me to learn. But I find oil pastels to be kind of freeing! I somehow finish oil pastel paintings faster than coloring pencil drawings, probably because I spend so much time layering with the pencils (and I do love lots of good layering, ngl!), the hard Pentel oil pastels I have can't take so much layering (or, perhaps I have yet to learn the proper technique for layering hard oil pastels? I've watched videos of oil pastel paintings and artists who use hard pastels don't seem to do all that much layering), so the painting is done faster than with coloring pencils! I also can't erase oil pastels equally as easily as I can erase color pencils, so I'm often forced to move past my perfectionism (which is another reason why coloring pencil drawings take so long to finish -- I can erase and fix (almost) to my heart's desire!) But all this makes oil pastels feel freeing, in a strange way. The moment I realized that I can't tinker and mess with oil pastels in the same way that I can use color pencils, I thought I'd surely hate it -- but when I let go of the old techniques, started learning how to actually use oil pastels as a medium with their own advantages and let go of the perfectionism for a bit, it does feel freeing. I still prefer the aesthetically-pleasing smooth look of my color pencils (although, I'm kiiiinda starting to warm up to the "messy" and more abstract appearance of the pastels), but I'm a fan of the strength of color that oil pastels offer. If I could combine the strong oil pastel colors with the smoothness created with linseed oil, I might actually find my ideal medium!!

@@souko7460 As someone who doesn't have the patience for colored pencils and only uses them for sketches, I can totally see how that would make you feel about oil pastels in contrast! :D Though I'm a perfectionist and really slow when it comes to acrylic paintings, so in a way, the oil pastels do the same for me: force me to be more spontaneous and messy and intuitive, which can be really freeing for a change! 😆And the linseed oil bridges that gap a bit - now I feel like I can just sketch something with oil pastels, and if I like it, continue building on it by blending with oils and layering fresh pastels on top! I think if you feel similar to me, you'd probably really enjoy the linseed oil-pastel-brush combo!!
