😢I put the striker in a vice and used high grit sandpaper to take the paint off. Also, I agree, go with a knife.

I have one coming tomorrow. It seems like the blade is shiny enough to use as a signaling device too.

I've had mine for about 15 years... not the same brand though. But it still works great.

Garrity. It's a regular size but still handy. And, I picked up the same as yours. Love the pocket size.👍👍

If you held the rod up off the table you'd be able to strike in a smoother motion, thus creating more sparks. The way you're doing it, you have no throw.....kind of irritating to watch.

I modified mine and it is a good knife you can add a sling shot set up for the Knife and sling as well and some other stuff that will be helpful I'm getting the Relitves jungle King and jungle King 2 and others and some Paracord and such but I'm not going to say how I'm going to do it I am secret active service and yes I'm a master in survival and Shinobi an urban and gorilla and tracking trap setting hunting fishing camping an making things people don't know anything about I can truly modify the knife I got for I love the knife

if that knife didn't have a sharp spine, it wont throw a spark,... the knife is also coated so it threw a weak spark. The striker that comes with the rod... or your own dedicated striker is actually preferable. Unless your in a survival situation and have no other way I wouldn't be wearing down the spine on knife. It just isn't practical. If you know how to use the tool effectively it does just fine

I can live with the split pin instead of losing all the stuff in the handle because of a full tang and I think all the other survival knives with storage in the handle use the same pin they just hide it better

I got this back in 2010 from Daily Deals. I got it for $7.99 plus free shipping. I still have it and it was somewhat of a pain replacing the mini utility knife blade. I have to say for the price, it is not a bad deal especially with it having a locking mechanism. Still wish it came with a small blade besides the saw and utility knife. Otherwise, excellent tool.

I have owned one for about 5 years. Unlike other dynamo flashlights I have owned, the gearing on this is solid. Light output is in the 15 -18 lumen range and the beam spreads very quickly. It is best for seeing something within 5 feet: things in the tent, tools laid down at night, Legos on the hallway floor. This is not the light to use for a night hike near cliffs!

A good review. I was surprised that you took the time to focus on the holster, but it made me realize that in time I may have to replace mine. You didn't mention anything about the plier mechanism or the wire cutter. Again I was surprised that you omitted these features.

There was a slight risk of igniting that pile of matches when you attempted to strike the ferro rod. Just pointing it out.

Probably the best thing about this is that it is one handed. If a person is injured and is having a hard time definitely the one-handed technique can be a lifesaver.
