To clarify a point I don't think I quite made clear. The Gaisma site is wonderful for getting a good visual understanding of the sun path, but when finding out what fixed angle is best for your part of the world, I'd recommend something like PVWatts. I don't think I explained it that well. I was trying to demonstrate on Gaisma the difference in energy from each panel on that day, and what the ideal angle would have been at that moment in time (around noon). Calculators like PVWatts are much better at calculating the best angle overall if fixed, or best angle for each month/season.

I'm still working to improve this format. Talking while time-lapse video instead of music I think is going to be a thing, but I talk too much at end of video because I have too much to say. I should record and do this live on site so I can show more detail of what I'm talking about instead of just talking over still images. I didn't like this video, but it was done so uploaded it. I'll have more video at end of videos if I have this much to say about things. If I want to talk this much without video I need to start a podcast lol.

2 solar parallels should be fine, even if the Amp goes above charge controller max amp. The charge controller will simply limit the amps it draws from the panels causing a loss in the total wattage the array can produce.
@butterflygrovefarmАй бұрын
Where is this info from? This isn't what I understand. I know you can overpanel, and it will limit just fine, but I'm pretty certain your still want to be within the Isc limitation.

It's easy to say in retrospect or as the arm chair observer. I had a shipping container that I filled and wanted to move onto piers. It was too heavy for any of my equipment, and I didn't want to rent a crane (about $1k) to move it about 20 feet. I racked my brain for weeks trying to think of ways to move it. In the end, I did the sensible thing of emptying it, moving it, then refilling it. So much time wasted trying to ignore what I knew was the simplest, most reliable solution, just a lot of work.
@rogermccaslin5963Ай бұрын
I think you were on the right track but that 4 feet was a pretty big step. Maybe a couple of feet at a time would have worked better. As for the mechanics of it, I think I'd have done a few things different. First, I'd add diagonal bracing to the tall side. Second, I'd make it so the joist/framework pivots on the now stabilized posts. Third, I'd raise the short side. Finally, I'd reverse the process (diagonals and pivot the short side) and raise the tall side. Rinse and repeat as needed. Of course, it's easy for me to armchair quarterback this thing from the comfort of the keyboard. The important thing is you lived to tell the tale.
@butterflygrovefarmАй бұрын
@rogermccaslin5963 Thanks for acknowledging the armchair bit, I was doing the same thing editing the video. I had bracing on before I moved but had to remove due to using some of those posts. I should have rigged up bracing when I attached the high side posts. That could have saved me alone. I agree bit by bit would have been better idea too. I realized that after I was already three feet too high lol.

@butterflygrovefarmАй бұрын
@ellensedge1898 Yeah, I'd thought about this but since had the idea to use the posts for jacking up I had removed the cross members on the sides and left the one in the middle for as long as possible. I should have re attached even if temporary to the new posts before moving the other side. That would have been ideal. I have 2 LS tractors, a 73 horse and a 4O horse. Trading in the 414O for an MT347, but with a cab. Could not agree more about the high quality and affordable cost. The LS dealer between Marble Falls and Austin closed due to the death of the owner. I bought all three of my tractors from the dealer in Azle, even though it is not the closest. Good dealer and friendly folks!
@butterflygrovefarm10 ай бұрын
That's sad, I did not know he had passed. I knew he had health issues, and spoke with him shortly before they closed. He did his best to not leave his customers without a dealer in the area. I knew he was trying to sell the dealership to someone else but the deal fell through for some reason. I assumed if it was a profitable business we'd still have an LS dealer in the area. I did not know how bad his health was. He was one of the few salesman that really cared about his customers and wanted to help them instead of just seeing the money. He was always genuine. That's a bummer.

Where did you get your filters and fluids? If you could list them that would be great!
@butterflygrovefarm10 ай бұрын
My filters were all from my local LS dealer. He's out of business now, but any dealer can ship them to you, if you call them up they'll tell you what you need for the tractor. There may be aftermarket filters, but I went with OEM for this. I'd do that when tractor is under warranty. I recall stories from my dealer, and I think Messicks youtube has videos on where if you do have warranty problems, and they can point to you using a cheaper aftermarket filter, they may not honor the warranty. I would like to think LS would not do that, but best not give them any option there. The filter pack wasn't too expensive, I think it was around $80 for all the filters, but cannot really remember. Regarding the fluids, I just went into my local Deere dealer and got the correct viscosity engine oil. As long as it matches what the book recommends, it's good there and any local tractor dealer brand should work fine. Deere was the closest to me.

About the emissions stuff, a year ago bought a 1999 Toyota Camry for basic transportation while out of town. The car drives great, gets 33MPG and is mechanically sound but it's a California emissions car and in the year I've had it and the only 3000 miles I've driven it, I've had a check engine light 3 times now, each time for a different emissions issue. I'm starting to think having a 25yo emissions system is going to be a constant headache, at least if I want to keep it operating as intended. I kinda wish I could just remove all that stuff and call it a day, as I said it runs and drives great!
@butterflygrovefarm Жыл бұрын
lol, yeah, electronics just start to go when it gets old. It's one of the problems with tractors too. Buy older one with 20+ year old electronics but a lot of the modern emissions stuff gone, or buy new with it all at higher cost. I mean, I didn't have problems, they worked the kinks out and I think that's a big part of the hesitation back like 10+ years ago, things are better now, I just hate it long term, it's just even more stuff that can possibly go wrong. I like the fuel economy though!

Is that mower/ cutting blade made for brush or grass? Id imagine if it's for grass it would get dull quickly cutting brush.
@butterflygrovefarm Жыл бұрын
Yeah most those rotary cutters have a spec for cutting up to 2" saplings. I've taken 3" down and thats probably not the best but it does it and works awesome. Now if it was a finishing mower, yeah that's another story and wouldn't want to use something like that.
@butterflygrovefarm Жыл бұрын
Actually, the more I think on it, this is probably why different regions call the same thing different names. Back home where we had almost all grass and very few trees or brush, these were called rotary mowers. Down here, most people call them shredders, probably because that's mostly what they use them for like me. Then I also hear the name bush hog, rotary cutter, and brush hog thrown around too but one of those is just a name brand. But when I was first looking at buying people and manufacturers call them different things, its not like there is an industry naming standard. I found that interesting
