Given the sound quality this would seem to be from the March 12th broadcast, which was Tebaldi's 8th performance with the Met, not her debut. She had sung BOHEME, TOSCA and CHENIER following her Jan 31st debut OTELLO. All told, 8 performances in just under 6 weeks.

A bygone era when opera was really grand, and singers sang with god-like voices. Most of what we have on the opera stage today is mediocre at best. Riposa in pace.

Two of the greatest voices in the world and at the time here nobody out sang them here, they sang together in his country a total of 55 times together in opera and concerts, and where friendly on and off stage together. As Tebaldi said he was "Mr. Terrific" (Tucker) he had " roses in his throat" and was "very Italian in his singing"

Gesù che Applauso… impressionante … Certo che a sentire cantare così … è veramente difficile dire chi fosse migliore fra lei e la Callas… Resta il fatto che la Tebaldi è stata una fra le più grandi … !!
