I just came back from a holiday in Lapland, Finland. Ofcourse I had some mosquito repellent with me, but when you put the repellent on your skin, the mosquitos still land on your clothes and try to sting you. On the campsite where I was, another person told me to try this " thermacell" . I was very sceptic in the first place ofcourse. But after like 10 minutes, I noticed less mosquitos arround me. After 15 minutes the entire place arround me was mosquito free!!! Maybe I sound like a person from a Tell-sell commercial right now, but it really works, so good!! Its really like a " shut up and take my money" situation! I had a mosquito-free evening from 6 pm when I turned it on , untill 1 am when I turned it off and went to bed. this is serious one of the best inventions against mosquitos EVER!!

100% agree Marty, taking children into the back country and putting them in challenging situations is so valuable. These skills can't be taught without doing. We have always taken our kids into the back country and pushed them through kms of portaging and paddling. Just finished up a video of our boys and my past brother in laws boys taking his ashes to Highfalls deep in Algonquin. With 12km of portages it challenged all of us. Love your content, keep it up! Cheers!

The decathlon looks like my kiddos deuter backpacks. I have been buying high quality down bags on Reddit used for the kids. Such a big difference get their bag down to a pound. Then you share an UL tent like the xmid 2. Ups are always worse than the downs. I LITERALLY said that to my 14 yr old daughter in RMNP this week. :)
@martymorissette4 күн бұрын
yeah I looked at the deuter and you are right it is very similar! yeah her setup was pretty dialed in at 15 lbs! I do still have to try the xmid... haven't gotten my hands on it yet!

Baptism by Type ll fun! 🤣 Marty you should tell your girls the story about Yellow-Yellow who was the smartest bear in the Adirondacks. She could open up those bear canisters (documented fact) and there’s urban legends (I’ve heard it from park rangers/DEC Officials) that say she taught her offspring and others how to do it as well. If you take them back there, you might want to study up on the hermits that inhabited the park. As a child I visited hermit camps that my father knew about. The Mountaineer store in Keene Valley is a great resource for any last minute needs and the Noon Mark Diner in town has the best pies too 😉
@martymorissette5 күн бұрын
lol yeah the bears were a problem for a long time out there but it seems to be so much better now that they've mandated bear canisters for over a decade now! Dude that diner in Keen is insane!!!!!!!!! Cheers brother

Awesome video. Nice to see the decision making process. I put myself in a vulnerable scenario during a late fall hike and learned it’s better to play it safe. But when you’re in the moment after a long day of slogging sometimes it’s hard to find clarity. The realness is inspiring. Thanks for putting in the work and bringing us along. 🔥
