When you run longer distance,so slower your arms cannot be at 90 degrees all the time and the ultra marathoner nedd to use their arm for balance

Marathon is a resistance race. Keeping your elbows at 90 degrees is more tireing. And ultra race runners need to keep balance so they don't follow any specific rule.

Does it really matter when you aren’t running for speed but rather distance?

If you decrease the angle that your arms are at it keeps your arms closer to your center so you can have more momentum at your center for longer periods of time

with sprinters, you need to use all of your energy with certain forms, but with distance running you must save your energy with less dynamic movements.

The sprinter is using that form for sprinting and the marathon runners such as eliud kipchoge are running for distance on roads, and the ultra marathon kilian jornet is running on rocks downhill, so form changes for different distances and terrain? This is crazy

I average 180 spm doing a 9 minute mile. But I am running in minimalist barefoot sandals. When I go barefoot I pickup to around 188 spm. My stride length is just under 3 feet. For what it is worth I am not actively working to achieve this spm. It is what my body does. That is beauty of minimalist running - you truly let your body figure it out. I find it funny when folks running in modern shoes trying to find their natural running cadence while wearing shoes that modify their body.

Yes, he does have great technique. But it's not all technique, guys. You MIGHT notice Rudisha is 4 inches taller than the next tallest guy, with 4 inches more in the legs, and he's solid muscle with a GREAT build, rivaling that of Usain Bolt. In other words, he's an insanely gifted physical specimen.

Today I did interval work: 300/3:10*11 - 300 m at a pace of 3:10 (on average from 3:05 to 3:10, it’s winter here, the tracks at the stadium are snowy). Cadence 222. An ordinary thing)
