I love this video. It shows that Raw feeding does not have to be that difficult or expensive. And you used some ingredients that I consider "super foods, although I realize that that term is used way too much. Pasteurized, eggs, green, tripe, and liver. Also, I think people forget about pork. It is a great protein, and lately it's been a lot more affordable than some others. I've been feeding Raw for 20 years and my emphasis is variety. This recipe is easy to change up and substitute some things, but still get a great variety. Thank you for making this video. I think it is one of the most helpful videos you have made for beginners. And also a great video to remind people to keep it simple. You don't need 20 ingredients in every bowl and you do not need a bunch of supplements.

Finally found someone who's feeling raw to 10+ cats! Hi! I have a bunch of strays (10+ :)) that I feed everyday, raw of course, and I'm trying to find a way to prep that is the most efficient and effective. How do you do it? What are your strategies and tips, if any? I'd LOVE to hear what you have to say about this :)
@aviendhaalthor6928Ай бұрын
@@RC-vt5bz I use PP plastic containers of 1300ml ( they are bpa free and able to put in the freezer). I bough from amazon a 200l freezer and a industrial grinder that is able to grind chicken bones. My tactic is as follows: Today i go and buy chicken legs and liver (as example). I smash the bones with a mallet and grind them. Next i grind the livers and arrange my containers on the table. Each container feeds 20 cats a meal and i feed them twice a day. I prefer to ration for each meal instaid of per day because each meal is as fresh as posible. I put in each container the proper amount of chicken and liver (as per recipe), stick a lable with C + L (from Chicken and Liver) so i know this is what i put in and store them in the freezer. Next day or whenever i have another 3-4 hours free, i go and buy the kidneys and beef. And again, i grind them, put them in the containers, write on the labe K and B (kidney and beef) and store them again. The containers stay so little time on the table that the meat i have in them doesnt get to deforst at all so all good from that point too. And i do that with all the ingredients. I usualy use : Chicken, beef, beef liver, kidney, spleen; or Chicken, pork, chicken liver, kidney, spleen; and Chicken, beef, porc, beef liver, chicken liver, kidney and spleen. The 3 meats, 2 livers recipe is the most complete in vitamins but since i rotate each recipe per week they balance very well. This type of meal prep is less stressfull because you only have to prep 2 meats, it takes 2-3 hours for 3 weeks of meals and you dont have many left overs since you can buy the exact amount that you need. Also it helps if for some reason you dont find livers that day, its no big deal, you buy kidneys or whatever else its missing in the containers. The meat its only frozen and deforezen once so less chances of the cats rejecting the meal because it smells or tasts funny from being manipulated too many times.

Thanks for all the info, I watch so many of your videos. I don't feed all these toppers at once, but I do top it with 5-6 different stuff listed above? my worry is that I am then unbalancing the meal? or do toppers just add as nutrient boosts?

Your videos are usually great. This one was truly a masterpiece. Most people don't have the time to truly source all the things you usually mention nor funds. This was possibly the most helpful. You should include a super low budget video. Things like off cut pieces of meat etc. We have 2 boerboels. That is way too expensive to feed muscle meats. We feed more muscular organs but are still too scared to go off kibbel completely. Thus far, we've managed green tripe, intestines, hearts, liver, kidneys, chicken stomachs, chicken heads feet and necks. We even get super cheap offcuts from our grocery stire but that is lots of fat and some leftover organs. But muscle meat will break the bank. Any thoughts? Maybe we need to add a multivitamin as well. We can also render some fat for cooking lard or to put in out bokashi bucket for the garden too.
@PawsofPrey Жыл бұрын
Awh, well thank you so much! I do suggest feeding a bit more muscle meat. The variety of muscular organs you can feed is great! But muscle meat really should be a decent bulk of the diet. And please only feed fat raw! Cooked fat has high chance of causing pancreatitis.

I've watched several of your videos and there's some great information. Thanks for all the helpful tips! If this meal is balanced why do you recommend not feeding it long term?
@PawsofPrey Жыл бұрын
I don't really suggest feeding any one recipe or commercial food long term. That's just my personal preference! Providing nutrients through different whole foods is what I believe is ideal. Who knows, maybe an ingredient you're feeding isn't as nutritious as we currently think, or maybe a specific meaty bone isn't as high in calcium as we initially thought. Maybe the zinc is too high in that one recipe and it makes it harder for the body to absorb iron and copper (nutrient ratios are also something to keep an eye on, at least over time) I'm not saying you can't, but I will always advocate for rotation! Makes things less stressful I think lol

This may sound stupid but I don’t math. Saying 20% this 70% that doesn't tell me anything. I need exact measurements. I have a 40 pound shepherd/ terrier mix that is 11 years old. Has had allergies all her life. About a year ago i started feeding her 6 pounds cooked ground turkey, one pound ground chicken or beef or beef liver, 6 hard boiled eggs, 2 cans sardines, 1 medium can salmon with skin and bones. All meat is cooked then mixed together and divided into 7 days. She's getting about a pound of ground meat a day. At first she did better but then started losing weight to much so i added three fourths of a cup of dry food back to her diet. She doesn't seem to be doing as well as she was in the beginning. How should I change her diet? What could her diet be missing? I no longer think I'm doing it right or the best thing for her. 😪

It’s important to use percentages as every dog’s weight will be different. Weigh your dog. If they weigh say 6kg like our Jack Russells, that’s 6000g. Adult dogs need 2-3% of their body weight. 3% of 6000g is 0.03 x 6000g= 180g. (3%=3 divided by 100= 0.03) 2% = 0.02 x 6000g = 120g per day This will be the total per day. Then for muscle meat: 80% of 180g is 0.8 x 180g = 144g (80%=80 divided by 100 = 0.8) 10% bone: 10%= 0.1 x 180g = 18g 5% liver: 5%= 0.05 x 180g = 9g 5% other secreting organs: 5%= 0.05 x 180g = 9g *** For puppies, you need to feed 8-10% of their weight, so to keep it simple, let’s say 10%. Our puppies are 2kg (2000g), and they need 8-10% so: 10% of 2000g is 200g. This will be the total per day. Then for muscle meat: 80% of 200g is 0.8 x 200g = 160g (80%=80 divided by 100 = 0.8) 10% bone: 10%= 0.1 x 200g = 20g 5% liver: 5%= 0.05 x 200g = 10g 5% other secreting organs: 5%= 0.05 x 200g = 10g I hope that helps!

The meal in this video was for a dog that needs about 1,000 calories! I just made it that way to be more general. My corgi eats about 500-600 calories (~8-10 oz a day)

I’m pretty new here but love the content!!! Is there a video I’ve missed than provides total amount needed per pound of dogs healthy weight? I got (from her videos) ratios of organ meat, bones, etc.

Thank you I really appreciate this!! I feel less overwhelmed and stressed to start diy raw. Sadly my dog is allergic to chicken so in place of egg yolk should I feed quail eggs? Or if I were to add fish and sunflower seeds instead of egg would the diet be balanced?

I hope my questions make sense 😅

You could feed duck or quail yolks, but I would personally feed oily fish like salmon, mackerel, or sardines to meet omega-3s and vitamin D, and feed a high quality vitamin E oil with mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols to meet vitamin E. For zinc, add some beef, lamb, goat, or bison meat. Oysters also meet zinc super easily with a small amount.

My Akita has started losing weight he's 10 years old and although I don't feed him raw, I do cook his turkey on the raw side, he has not been absorbing his nutrients lately and has been losing weight. I'm trying to remedy this after my veterinary visit didn't really seem to help. Any suggestions?

Remember that dogs didn't evolve eating a mixed diet every day. I give my dog a very varied diet, but I don't mix his proteins too much and try to stick to meat from a single species in a single meal. For example if the muscle meat is lamb or mutton, then I'll try and stick with offal from a sheep (liver, heart, kidney). Same with beef and chicken.

Any suggestions to get my dog to take his time and chew raw bones before he swallows them? I have a Shih-tzu. He hardly chews on chicken wings and necks. He just wants to swallow them

Now see how few ingrediants can be done for cats! I imagine though that would be much harder given their specific intakes. Just want to say I'm super glad I found your channel. I really want to switch our cats when we're in a better spot financially since most of our sourcing will have to be done online. Currently they're on a mid-grade wet diet with the occasional treat of easy to obtain things from a raw diet, and they LOVE those goodies so I'm hoping they'll switch over without too much fuss.

I'm happy to hear that :) and yes, the ingredients would be quite different!

I have a question, usually when I research me to feed my dog to get started on a raw diet, it is usually said that meat from chain grocery stores might not be good because they’re not meant to be consumed raw. However in your video you said that you went to a chain grocery store, Can I know what that store is? And is it really true that raw meat at chain grocery stores would be harmful because of the amount of bacteria that are in it that are not meant to be consumed raw. I don’t have access to a local butcher so a chain grocery store or Asian grocery stores are all I have
@kristaanne21449 ай бұрын
Chain grocery store meat is fine to feed! It’s best if you can get pasture raised or free range meats but anything safe for human consumption is usually fine for your pet!

I’m wanting to start adding these kinds of food for my cat , but I know he won’t eat big pieces of food, plus he never eats his wet food which is a small amount all at onceI just added some bits of sardines he loved it, but it might be hours before he goes to plate to finish how would that work with raw meats ?
