Hey John. There is not too many dtecs in my country and recently I came across some tour videos while the civic dtec was idling. I always dreamed about a silent idling diesel engine but all of them felt much like the same. In those videos dtec blew my mind, it felt like it has similar knocking sound as a turbo gas engine. When I listened the other diesels from the same guys, they were just like what I expected. Is it really that silent after the engine heats up? If it is, after that many miles, is there any noticeable difference with the noise? Thanks

@@h.cavidarabac3852 it seems to sound like a diesel to me but they are a good running engine. Sounds the same today at 156k miles as it did at 70k miles. I just keep the oil fresh and use good fuel and it runs a treat.

@@johndglynn I've recently got hatchback version, same gen and engine, and it came with this problem. It's my first time owning a diesel car and I don't know how likely fuel contamination occurs. Normally, diesel fuel filters should have valve to drain water at the bottom but this model doesn't and filter itself is in an awkward place. Lift should definitely help if you ever want to service the fuel filter yourself.

I made the mistake in 2014 of buying a very low mileage 1.8 petrol Tourer (2000 miles) I absolutely hated the performance it was too sluggish and noisy for me I should have bought a Diesel, I kept it less than 6 months ended up buying a little Volvo V40 D2 it was marginally better but the reliability was shocking flat batteries and brake warning and ABS malfunctions, I should have got a Civic Diesel but at the time there were none for sale anywhere as they were so much in demand on the nearly new used market.
