I care for some ones father ... It's sad how some people don't understand how bad it gets ... I don't know if there's some sort of in-home care aide company that she would be qualified for.. sometimes veterans are Medicare can help . Interim is the company I work for...

I noticed my neighbor needed more help than just basic housekeeping so I did the 10-hour online course for the company and did the interview and got hired so far he's my only client and it helps me pay my bills it has opened up doors for me to go help other people if I need too.

Sorry I probably comment too much but also what I don't understand is part of the family complains about not having money and not having a job but they won't go work for this company to help their grandfather and their grandmother... They would rather steal from them... It's sad...

Good news! Sometimes things work out for best. Hold onto this for as long as you’re able. All arises, changes and passes, constantly throughout our lives. Now remember to do some slow deep breathing in between anything which comes up. That too shall pass. 👍🏼🌟🌈🫶

That’s great that your neice will be able to help in near future. We have about 8-9 caregiver’s for my mom(with me being one of them). None of us have had classes on being a caregiver. But I know it would help if we did. Mom gets 24 care. But I do realize that most people cannot afford to hire caregiver’s and are on their own. My siblings & I are grateful that my parent’s can afford other’s to help cause it can be a burden at some point. I’m only able to help 6 hrs a week. I don’t have a lot of patience & it gets stressful for me. Maybe because I have problems with anxiety🤷‍♀️ I have a good feeling that as time goes by things will fall more into place with care for your mom.

Yea, I hope this arrangement can hold me over until I can come up with the next plan. Eventually she will need more and more care. At least right now my mom is still mostly independent expect for feeding herself and doing some random things like using the phone or other devices but I've seen the decline the past few weeks and it freaks me out that I am dragging my feet too much on this. I hope you are doing ok too!

You don’t want to wait too long to get POA because if your mom gets really bad and can’t sign it or doesn’t understand what it is you can’t do it. And it will make things very hard for you, they’ll be things you won’t be able to do without it.

Proud of your strides forward and allowing for a shared focus with family. Power of Attorney requires your mother's signature in front of two witnesses and then you can be in agreement with her needs related to the care you are promoting

This is overwhelming! Especially as you don't have any other support. You're not set up for this level of care. For you and your mom's wellbeing getting her into some care would be best. They are properly set up for this. If your mom's day to day needs are taken care of you could just then focus on doing fun activities with her ❤ Your health care system there seems designed to make it difficult for people to access the care they need 😢

Unfortunately, yes, the system is almost entirely profit driven so if you don't have a LOT of funds set aside for things like this you are in bog trouble. Luckily, I have a niece who is trained as a nurse who has recently stepped in to help me with a great deal of this stuff.

Hi Shannon That sounds awesome that you will be receiving the visits and support from your nieces. Also, setting up some outings with and your Mom will get you out and about, too. You sound less stressed already!! Sounds like you are making a mental list up for getting all the stuff that you need done, just taking one thing at a time. I hate going to drs. myself so I know what you mean. I get overwhelmed easily also. Hang in there Shannon and have a great day!

This is all great news! So happy that your nieces are stepping up to help. Just to make sure you're aware, you won't be able to get POA for your Mom once she's unable to comprehend what she's signing. So try not to take too long about that. I'm also very happy to hear that you're going to see a doctor soon. I got thinking about it the other night and your weight gain could be thyroid related, that's what happened to me. Keep the positive attitude about everything, that will help too!

Good morning Shannon. I can relate to what you are talking about with being overwhelmed and then getting stuck. I am 63 and I have always been a go getter my whole life, but with age that has changed. I used to be great at multitasking. I swear I think the day I turned 60 that all changed. What I am getting to is that I have learned to slow down and live in the moment and concentrate on only one thing at a time. If I don’t do this I get overwhelmed and nothing gets done. It is a constant reminder to slow down, but the more you do it comes easier. I hope this helps.

I'm so glad you made this video, Shannon. I thought we were here to support you and cheer you on, not rain on your parade because of negative things in our own lives. You are doing the best that you can, as are all of us. It's good that you're still keeping a positive attitude about things, even if you haven't yet accomplished what you intended. You'll get there. Having an unexpected and expensive car repair just adds another unwelcome obstacle. I saw a comment below about perimenopause. I was already in full menopause at your age and I still am 10 years later. It reeks havoc with your entire physical and mental well being. I know you don't like going to the doctor, but if you have (or can find) a good female GYN, they will understand what you're dealing with and they can prescribe you hormones that will help greatly. I don't know if you have health insurance, but if not and you don't know about it already, GoodRx makes most prescriptions affordable.

It's okay. There are just a lot of people who I *think* may not understand the full picture because they only know snippets of my story so far. And, that's okay. It was more of a pep talk to myself and maybe others my age who never figured life out that we still have time to do *some* of the dreams we still have floating around in our heads. After I am done sorting my mom out, my plan is to work on my medical needs next, as my budget allows anyway! Thank you again :)

I often feel that way, too. The resistance never goes away, so we learn to expect it and even welcome it, and that's good. Then we get it done even if it seems insurmountable. You get stronger and need less validation from others to get moving. Instead, you become an inspiration to others who are watching.

13:24 Amen ‘self-awareness is highly recommended’. You’re doing great; well ahead of the pack. You’ve got the skills and life experience to smooth it all out; I can tell. No berating yourself; it’s unhelpful, it’s untrue and it’s not where your precious energy should be directed. No regrets; there are always too many ball for people to juggle (life is a ball pit) Blessing to you and your challenges. Get the power of attorney in place; you will then have the ‘authority’ which makes jumping through the hoops smoother (they don’t need to be on fire) even though they are still well …. HOOPS. 🫤🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi Shannon, That paralyzed feeling is stress. It is understandable the amount on your plate right now. I will give you a shameful example of my putting things off. I took both my nieces to Disneyland in 1992. I gathered lots of great scrapbook item momento's, took photos, and all. It's now 2025 and I still never completed it! I can relate to your predicaments of putting things off. I hope you can give yourself grace and know it will take time to get a good routine. I like your thoughts of writing things down. Sticky notes are really wonderful. Hugs to you.

You most certainly are not a loser. You are an inspiration to me. You are going out of your comfort zone, challenging yourself, stepping up, learning how to help your mom. Like you even said about the role reversals, I can't even imagine trying to come to terms with that. But your mom seemed so happy and peaceful. I watched the last video of your outing together, couldn't articulate how well I thought you did with it, so I just hit the thumbs up. You seem to have a natural calmness with her. The little things won't always be perfect but your overall objective and intntions are. Does your state have a program that would pay a relative to be a care giver?

You really have a way with putting things that help me put things in perspective a bit better so thank you for that. I'm so glad you liked the video where I took mom out. I'm still learning this "filmmaker" aspect of making videos. It's so fun for me but I am definitely an amateur lol. My niece is actually looking into the caregiver getting paid type of program. She is an RN and wants to get involved at least a couple days a week so she is hoping to supplement the lost income with that program. I hope it all works out because she is a very sweet person and I would love to have her around as much as possible. Thank you again, sincerely!
