I went through CES surgery in January 2024, curently suffering bowel n bladder control issues, saddle anesthesia. Doctors said we dont have any medicines of sensation lost. But i m happy to see Ur recovery progress. It gives me support to fight against it. Thank u brother

Hi Sam amazing to hear your story , I am now 12 weeks into my recovery from an emergency operation for cauda equina syndrome. I damaged my back at work Jan 23 back and forward to docs pain killers anti inflammatory drugs was all that was offered. Eventually, my gp agreed to an orthopaedic referral I waited 5 mon5hs in agony and the referral was not even a face to face it was a 3 min and 16 second phone call where I was told nothing wrong with me exactly 2 weeks later I was rushed into hospital L4 L5 discectomy and L4 Laminectomy . My surgeon told me the same your at the mercy of nature over the next 18 months to 2 yrs. Thank you you give me hope my friend Stephen.

how long does it take to ur bladder to work again?

I was diagnosed in April 2019. First back surgery was Feb 2019. CES happened 2 months later when my back went again. It was 3 days after that when I went numb from the waist down (Friday night). I only knew what CES was from my own Google research so I instantly knew what it was straight away. I went to hospital after ringing an ambulance but when I was there they tried to send me home with meds. I was persistent and said no. Finally gave me a bed and after an urgent MRI in the morning I was diagnosed with severe CES and was operated on, on Sunday morning. My back was opened up and was also infected from the previous operation so I was in for 5 days to clear that up as well as recovery from more disc removal. I was very lucky but only down to knowing what CES was. It's taken 5 years to get to a stage where I'm almost recovered. I still get a stiff back easily so have to keep mobile daily, walking, and sports massages monthly but I have no feeling in part of my thigh and also have slightly numb toes but everything else is functioning. My heart goes out to all suffering and having to live wlth CES. You're stronger than you think and very brave. More awareness about CES is desperately needed.

Your video gave me big hope. I'm 46 years & was diagnosed with CES in Dec 2023. I underwent surgery on the 4th day after I was convinced that it was an emergency. But the recovery has been remarkable. I got rid of the catheter in Feb 2024 about two months after the surgery & I have started walking on my own without much assistance. The Bowel issue has almost 90% resolved. Although the urine passed with little effort, I found a remarkable recovery in less than 4 months. Overall, I see myself pretty much recovered.

February 15, 2024 - Thank you for sharing Sam! Since lifting something heavy 31 years ago, I have been 90+ % numb from the waste-downward with intermittent fecal incontinence (originally 100% paralyzed for a few weeks) and now in 2024, I have extreme pains in my dominant leg. 31 years ago at age 17, the ER doctor couldn't figure out root cause, even though the MRI showed a disk bulge in L5. I have seen many doctors and a few Neurosurgeons and not one can figure out root cause but yesterday, while having a conversation with a Chiropractor I know, he says, "listening to your symptoms, the 1st thing I think of is that you are dealing with Cauda Equina Syndrome but if this is not dealt with within 8-9 months from original injury, the nerves will not correct themselves." This has effected my life in SUCH A HUGE way and I am at a lost of words! If anyone has Neurosurgeon recommendations, please comment here to my comment. I am located in Florida but if I must travel to a reputable Surgeon, I will do so. Hey sam , I have one question?? I'm 21 i had a disc bulge which was healing but then I travelled in auto and had a jerk . After that some days later i felt weird sensation in private area. Few days later o felt pain in both legs although very less and on scale of 1 to 10 its 1 . I don't have back pain. Ever since I am in a state of panic of this being cuada equina syndrome. 2 weeks went that way since last one day I'm having urgency in urination. I don't have numbness in any of my legs . I just don't know what this is. I talked to my parents and didi about this, and they think that this all might be in my head , sometimes urgency of urine happens. She also said that if i had disc herniation i would not be able to sit stand and walk. Yes i can walk upto 3 hrs . Sit for more than 2 hours. But these symptoms they are confusing me. Can you suggest something?? Actually I'm in rural area right now and I have decided to go to City and the government hospital there. Even I think that it can't be cuada equina syndrome because it's been 15 days since that incident and majority of times symptoms of CES appear suddenly but in my case things are different. I Just hope it's not CES . Actually I have a problem of overthinking and panicking regarding everything. I even panic regarding small test so even I think that to this is all in my head. Is my sister correct that as i googled everything regarding CES And watched somany vedio on it. Could it be that . Please help and reply

Congratulations on your recovery. And your right it is a mental battle.. You will keep recovering its been 13 years for me and lm basicly back to normal again, still have some more healing to finish off. I know how hard it can be l know how you feel. It gets better, the longer you go faster you heal and the more healing you notice becuase all the small little healings start to add up to the over all big heal.

Did you lose full senseion of the foot or just weakness because I lose full senseion of my right leg and I have weakness in my left leg ( the time between the stopping the urine plus fully losing the senseion my right leg and the operation it was around 16_18 hours

Hello Sam...I want to ask u, i was diagnosed of Cauda Equina Syndrome last 2 days.. I still have sensation on my bladder but my Sexual dysfunction.. My leg still ok, can walk.. Pain at the back subside.. Should i be doing surgery as fast as posiible for this Issue or just continue with Physio?

A person goes through a period of grieving after you are injured and you know your body will never heal enough to let you live the life you used to and wanted to. I think that is the hardest part. I have back problems. Haven't been diagnosed with CES but my surgeon said my spine is a train wreck from one end to the other and a textbook example of what can go wrong with a spine. I have come to terms with it but now my brother has almost exactly what I do except worse. The MRI reading did mention the CE was somewhat impinged at C3-4 I think. I hope he can find some help so he can have more function. He's a great guy who has had a rough life. As a kid he had asthma and nearly died several times. He had a son who got into drugs and ended up taking his life. He has2 grandsons he loves so much. So he needs to be able to be a part of their life. Been watching videos to learn as much as I can. Hope all of you find at least some relief from pain.

I'm so impressed with your recovery. Could you tell me about your physical regimen to recover? Did you have a trainer or go to a gym? Is there anything you found particularly helpful? Also I was wondering if you still have drop foot and if you still wear braces?

I had this surgery 3 weeks ago my bladder stopped functioning before surgery and I was having difficulty in walking I start walking 2nd day of surgery with help 3rd day with stick 4th day I was walking without any problems I’m still on catheter n my bowels still not functioning properly but I’m going out for walks eating healthy my hips are still numb no sensation but I’m mentally stable and strong now after watching ur video thank you for encouraging us

But still there is numbness around my buttock and private parts. Also having numbness in my right foot. Am able to walk slowly. Doc said it will take some time to heal.
