This is cool. The cotton looks exactly like when i make plarn mesh bags. Pretty! Cotton is nice, but expensive. Id maybe make one as a gift to mom, but tjats about it lol

When you wash the acrylic its honna stretch and relax bigger.

For me, it has to be tapered grey aluminium without handle grips. I find tapered heads with the more shallow groove requires less pronounced hand and wrist movements. They catch and release the yarn quicker. So I can crochet faster with less stress on my hands.

Does the color bof the needle are the same. Like all blue needles are the same size or gold is all the same size needle

Thanks so much for this. I've seen a lot of websites saying cotton is better for bags and summer garments, but after trying to make a top and seeing how much it stretches, I'm questioning this. I appreciate that you used measurements and a variety of tests to make this clearer.

Oof. I probably should’ve watched this video before I bought my hook. Cuz I’m using a size F when the yarn is a bit thicker 😂😭🤦🏼‍♀️. I feel kinda embarrassed. I mean, it did work, but I find myself having to get my finger involved. So yeah! Guess I have to return it for a bigger size

This was so helpful! I have found such beautiful acrylic yarns that I want to use for bags like this but had heard that cotton was the preferred choice. You have shown me that it's not quite so black and white.

Beautiful, I'm formative, concise 🧶tutorial.The sun 🌞will not deteriorate the acrylic as the cotton will.If you are making something for patio, outdoors, in direct sunlight, etc.

Why is the crochet needle number 5 and 8 I bought the same hook size. They were steel. Ijust found out that they're the smallest size.but i Still don't get the similar hook size

I would love to use cotton because it biodegrades naturally unlike acrylic. Also, when washing cotton it is still eco-friendly unlike acrylic,there are microplastics that goes into our waterways and into the ocean causing harm to our fishes and water.

Thank you for this video. I have been crocheting over 40 years and I never noticed the difference either 🤦🏽‍♀️ But you have the best explanation of the differences. And In my hand I now know is a tapered hook. Thank you 🙏🏽

Thank you for such a concise explanation. I've seed these both before and preferred one over the other, but I had no idea they had specific names to them. For me, the tapered hooks are much easier to use for some reason.

I love the Susan Bates Inline hooks I bought in the early 2000s up to about 2010 or 2011. After that I couldn't find them much; I LOVE the ones with a matte finish in gray. The ones made in the US were terrific; then they changed the style of the tip and farmed them out to Mexico, where the quality slipped. For me they are still better than tapered. For some reason I split stitches like crazy using a tapered hook. I swear, I'm about ready to call the factory and beg them to start making the early ones again!!!

Thank you - really useful information. I'me fairly new to crochet - just coming up tp twp years since I gave up knitting in favour of crochet. I didn't realise there was a difference between inline and tapered hooks, or what the significance was.

Bless you for doing these videos because I accidentally bought acrylic yarn instead of cotton yarn to try my hand at a market bag during the stay at home period. Returns are a nightmare right now so its good to know I can go ahead with the acrylic! Thanks 🙏🏽

Hi mellisa! This pattern is the one that im looking for. But do u mind if i ask u something? Coz i'm lil bit confused. In 2nd row, you chain 3,dc in same st, and continue 2dc in a st. And before you sl st on the top of 3 chain, how many dc's do you have ? I repeat it for about 3times, and in the end i got 26 dc's. I'm curious is it my mistake, or it is 26 dc's indeed (before you sl st in top of it)? Thanks anw, 💕💕❤️❤️

@@oditaukulele Hi, I'm happy to help to try to clear it up. For this pattern, all of your beginning chain 3’s will count as your first DC of the round. So at the end of the first round, you’ll have your original chain three, plus 11 actual DC’s. You will slip stitch into the top of that chain 3. From there, you’ll make the chain 3 that will begin round two, and place your first actual DC into the same space where that chain 3 originates. This should leave the 11 actual DC’s from that first round, and when you make 2 DC’s in each of those, it should make 24 stitches total-23 actual DC’s, and your first chain 3 which counts as the 24th. I hope this helps!

@@melissafrisella7204 aahh see, so the first chain 3 is part of 24 dc's? So that one dc in the same place as the chain 3, it makes first set of 2 dc's in every st?

All in all, a very well done comparison and great videos. I'm not sure you've drawn the correct conclusion from observing the fuzziness of the acrylic after washing. You say the acrylic will wear out faster than the cotton. I think in the short run the acrylic will look shabbier than the cotton, but in the long run the cotton will wear out faster. Cotton fabric will decompose in a matter of months. Acrylic is forever.
