😊Thank you for your video on assembling your camper components into your van. It was efficiently done and fun to watch. I hope to make my odyssey in my Odyssey in the spring of ‘26 when I retire, so I believe that leaves me ample time to outfit it and take many local trips.

What kind of bike do you drive Bruce? Have you ever thought of marketing your design for Toyota van owners?
@BruceParksАй бұрын
The bike in the background? It's a BMW R1200GS. I should say it "was" since I sold it recently - just wasn't riding it much at all. Anyway, I've considered the idea of offering my camper design in the form of plans, kits, parts etc for a long time but in order to do it the way I'd want, I'd need to redesign some very complicated parts to make them simpler and easier for others to be able to assemble without cursing at me too much. Besides, I've been retired for quite a while and the idea of building a small business hasn't appealed to me yet. Hey, I appreciate the question though!

Have you noticed the battery draining from keeping the slide doors or lift gate open? If so, what are you doing about it?
@BruceParksАй бұрын
First, I flip the ceiling switch so the interior lights don't turn on when a door is opened. If I want to leave the rear hatch open all night, I click the latch closed (at the bottom of the hatch) using a screwdriver; this makes the car think the hatch is closed. When I want to close the hatch for real, I bring it down enough so I can press the release button above the license plate to open the latch, then I can close the hatch. I haven't left the side door open for long so I don't have experience with that but I've never had the battery run down after doing the latch trick mentioned above.
@Karin-cn9jxАй бұрын
@@BruceParks Thank you so much!! I did the latch thing as a test but didn't pull the gate down afterward. So when I hit the lift button, it made sounds that made me cringe and worry that I had already broken the new to-me van LOL

Bruce I've seen all of your Sienna videos over and over again while trying to find inspiration to upgrade my own van. I've finally decided to commit to fully building out my sienna that 've had since 2017. I've seen so many sienna builds out there but nothing that comes close to the space efficiency you have but most importantly to the cost and DIY feasibility wich is key to accesibility. I noticed you just posted a video 2 days ago wich made me really happy to know you are well and enjoying your travels. I am in the architectural profession and would be more than happy to document your build and help you make plans to provide to the community you have inspired through your videos. I know a few have inquired and not sure if there is any of this in the works. I know it will take time and effort to get these plans done but it is totally possible if you are open to it. Blessings and may you continue to inspire everywhere you go!!!!

Hello Bruce, Thanks for sharing that. I don’t want to remove the center console. What I’d like to do is place my phone in the console when it's connected to Apple CarPlay. However, when I close the console, the wire prevents it from closing. Do you have any suggestions on how I can keep my phone in the center console while it's connected to a charger? I have a 2019 Toyota Sienna XLE.
@BruceParksАй бұрын
Sorry for the response delay. Are you looking for a way to have your phone stowed inside the console while connected to a cable that goes to the outside of the console? I'd consider adding a hole inside the console that would allow a cable to reach inside from the outside and remain inconspicuous. I'd probably remove the console to do the work because then it would be obvious where the best path would be to route the cable.

Hi Bruce, I was wondering what blue water container that is. Since you have a sink arrangement in the back, I was thinking of moving the tank forward into the position of the sink and just having the plywood front 45 back to a single sheet of plywood to connect to the back structure to allow both middle seats to be installed. A fold-up table surface might be added to the water area front to allow say using the stove with the window down to allow ventilation during inclement weather. I just don't know if that would allow enough room for that second middle seat to work. tnx, phil
@BruceParks2 ай бұрын
Hi Phil, the water container is a 6 gallon product from Reliance (amzn.to/4cxDcjT); I don't think blue is offered anymore. If I were to redesign my sink area, I think the water jug could stay put but the undersink cabinet would have to tuck in a little for the 2nd row seat to be able to be reinstalled.

@BruceParks2 ай бұрын
Yes, buy another Sienna! They are such a versatile and reliable vehicle. And a great base for a camper build. Regarding your question about whether I offer kits, the quick answer is no. So many people have asked me that and I sometimes wished I could say yes but what I've got is a one-off build. It would be a complicated kit as is but if I ever set about to build another one, I'd simplify the design to make it more easily kitable without losing any functionality. If I ever get to that point, I'd inform my subscribers. Thanks for commenting!

Bruce, I echo all of the props for this build Sir! I was wondering, with the foot board stowed, does that allow you to put the 2 seats back into the van to make it a 4 seat vehicle?
@BruceParks2 ай бұрын
Insightful question, Phil. Yes, that was one of the reasons for designing the stowable footboard. However, the sink cabinet on the driver side prevents mounting that seat so I wind up with a 3 seat vehicle. If I were to build another minivan camper, I’d design the sink cabinet to be very modular and easily removable.

I'm wondering why you abandoned the bed/ couch flip up style that you make a video of before you hit the road? I was seriously considering it but now wondering if i should also change. I called your expertise and wonder would i be making a mistake to make one.
@BruceParks2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what you are referring to. I haven't changed anything in my bed/sofa design. The rearmost bed board pivots up and forward to form the sofa backrest; the middle board (that tilts slightly up in this video using the cam) is the sofa bottom; and the frontmost board stows under the middle board so it's out of the way. I'm not sure why you think I abandoned this.
