I felt the last few episodes were a bit rushed due to the 12 ep limit. All the big plot lines are shown then bam the demon lord fight. Was surprised we even got to the demon lord in 1 season. But the show made me laugh quite a bit.

Man, this episode hurts every time I see it. The delivery and writing of "What could I possibly have done to deserve the way you treated me?" is just so heartbreaking and yet it resonated so much with me that I knew exactly how she felt. The animation is so impactful in showing how vulnerable she is too. Your analysis in this episode is on point. I'm glad you called out Shadow Weaver's BS excuse for abusing Catra and how some people use similar BS reasonings to uphold oppressive or unhealthy systems. I can't wait to see the rest of your reactions, especially to Catra's storyline!

For what the show is all around, the confession was pretty cute

I appreciate the small moments showing Shadow Weaver has abusive tendencies even as Light Spinner, like how she can be unnecessarily physically rough with him. She just got worse with Catra and Adora. The show doesn't really show it, probably because of the rating, but there is definitely the implication she didn't just harm Catra emotionally over the years.

Time to read the light novel/manga for the real yuri Loved that voice acting recording moment. Such a great show. Came for the yuri stayed for the drama! Overall amazing main character duo. Rating: 9 (on a scale of 8 to 10) My description for the series: Talk about obvious yuri bait.

Honestly, Shadow Weaver is my second favorite character. I love hiw, despite being a terrible person, she does have depth to her, and even some slight moments of genuine care.

This is such an amazing and heartbreaking episode. You covered the way it handled the complicated relationship between an abused child and their parental figure really well already, but I want to hone in on that one line from Shadow Weaver, when she says Catra reminds her of herself, and that nothing was ever easy for them. I guess we don't know if Shadow Weaver truly believes this, but it shows her incredibly delusional thinking: Their circumstances are nothing alike, Shadow Weaver was a respected magic teacher in a heavenly paradise, and Catra was a nameless orphan forcibly conscripted into a ruthless army-state, under which she was constantly abused in various ways from a young age. That she would equate their situations is pretty descriptive of how abusers think. I also think it's worth mentioning how well this works as a flashback/backstory episode. Those are not necessarily easy to pull off, but they integrate the past plot seamlessly into the events of the present. The whole thing just works really, really well.

I've been loving the series so far! I'm so hyped for season 3 :D

Funny you mentioned there wasn't a scene with Aqua and Kana talking because the anime actually cut it; it's funny that they were talking about this subject in this episode when this is the first time this show has cut so much from the source material (two entire scenes) 😅 I think the second one may have been rearranged and moved to a future episode so I won't talk about it, but the scene that was supposed to be after Ruby's recap was Aqua and Kana arriving at the first cast meeting (Akane mentioned they went together). Kana is stress expositioning about theater so Aqua says "You don't have to be nervous" and she says she's not (she is) and then they meet Melt... He is polite and says he's happy to work with them again, to which they respond with a long pause and this face 💀, so Melt assures them he knows he sucked in Sweet Today and has been practicing ever since. There's some more talk too, I wish they could have kept this but, oh well 🤷🏾‍♀️

As someone who's native from Russia, I can say that with a few specific words the Russian is actually pretty nice; like the way they say "милашка" (cutie) or "закат" (sunset) and "красиво" (pretty) . Though there are a few hiccups here and there with long sentences and sometimes it made me wish I could change it to fit the transition better and then there's obviously the accent that does stick out in some places But all in all, decent 👍🏼the entire scene with kid Kuze was really cute :>

MILASHKA 😂 her VA being the same as Nagatoro's is hillarious. Apparently she really can speak a little bit of russian. I've seen some natives saying that in the long lines she sounds a little weird and some are even saiyan her accent is VERY strong, but as a non-speaker, it looks legit to me LMAO

There back with S2 and what an good start. Short introduction en set itself right into to the story. I really missed Kana, Akane and Aqua. There drama is going to be interesting. Hope to see Ruby and B-comachi(???) back in action soon.

I quite liked this show overall, and appeciated the self-awareness too, but I'd rather have had some more real yuri progression in the show finale. There was a lot of legitimate repressed chemistry and appreciation between the two that gave the show energy earlier along and I'd kinda liked to see that bond come across stronger in the finale. I get they want to leave room for the story to progress, but I do think the finale lacked a little something. (Though I too thought the actual arc with the performance was resolved well.)

This show is such a sleeper. It's not mind-blowing or anything but it's tons of fun and it takes itself just seriously enough to be really memorable for me. Really refreshing dynamic between our two leads and pretty consistent animation considering how low key of a production it is.

So it makes sense that their side would be more compelling to follow.
