Some are. If they have banged around, as in the one instance I mentioned, gotten too hot, unsafe storage. If unknown, unsafe. I have old ammo that I know it's entire history, and I deem it safe...for me. Thanks for watching.

I was in line at Cabellas in Idaho. There was a young man in his early 20's in line by me. He had a rather large box of ammo. I asked him what it was. He said it was 300 RUM and that he was ging to Colorado to shoot elk at 800 yrds. He said he bought the rifle last pay check but did not have enough money to buy the ammo until this paycheck. I asked if he knew how to shoot at 800 yards. He said he had not done so but he was going to sight in his scope, learn to shoot his new rifle at 800 yards and have ammo left to go hunting. All on one 20 round box of ammo. I wonder how he paid for his trip to CO. I hope to heck he did not see any elk. This long distance game shooting should be illegal.

Randy. Do u sell McMillan stocks for vustom rifles
@TheRealGunsmithСағат бұрын
I use McMillan stocks on the majority of my custom builds, but not all. When McMillan sold, some of the stocks they made, because there wasn't the demand, were discontinued. I use Bell and Carlson for some, Richard's Microfit on occasion. A few client's want laminate stocks, so Boyd's or Stocky's. But I'd say 95% or so are McMillan. I do not "sell" McMillan stocks, as a dealer, just order each stock when a custom order is placed. Thanks for watching.

I have a 7prc and I’m pretty happy with it , I’m getting around 3000 fps with my seekins with a suppressor, I’d say it’s pretty ideal , that was with a 175 grain federal ammo .

Winchester 760, Remington cases and Winchester large rifle primers in a .30/06 with a 22-inch barrel - just what I used when I loaded for my '06. I could safely drive a 165-grain Hornady Interlock Spire Point to 3000 fps. The only problem was it kicked like 10 mules, had a fearsome muzzle blast and didn't group too well. I dialed it back a bit and got consistent MOA groups. It was a devastating deer and antelope load, and I'm sure it would have worked on elk. I think if my rifle had had a 24-inch barrel it would have handled the hotter load better in terms of muzzle blast and accuracy. With the new powders and bullets available today the old '06 is better than it's ever been. It's not going anywhere because it just works.

Well done Randy, very wise in your comments on LR hunting. Nosler Partitions, Hornady interlocks and most bonded bullets are all I would use for hunting at any range. In my opinion, the Barnes bullets are not good hunting bullets! They do not shock the animal and kill by bleeding the animal out very similar to a bow kill. Time and time again I have seen Bull elk shot with Barnes bullets clear through the lungs either run away like they haven't been hit or stand there for up to 5 minutes before tipping over. When you hit them with the Partition or another bonded type bullet you know it! They either drop stone dead or flip over and roll!

I bought 5000 cci 200 primers in 1986 or so. I have 1100 left. I’ve been using them for a bunch of loads. I’ve loaded a 150 nosler ballistic tip for 4 different 30-06 rifles. I had one rifle that I had 3 misfires of about 40 rounds and I wonder if I should try some Remington 9 1/2 before taking it to a gunsmith.

This exact same thing could, and probably has and will happen with people putting .308 winchester into a .270 winchester. Its very dangerous and the engineers at winchester should have thought through this before using the same tractor size on different ammunitions.

Randy thanks for your video - I have a couple of questions. Does the tailstock have to be perfectly on plane with the headstock? I haven't been able to afford to have my ways scraped and shimming could vary by where on the bed the tailstock is set. I have usually used a 4 jaw and a range rod but your process appears far more repeatable and practical especially since my LeBlond doesn't support a spider. I have a Jacobs collect chuck with the expandable collets which gives me about .0005" max runout through 360 degrees against zero runout at the mounting plate on a L0 mount,. Can that work or do I need to source a 5C or other collet style?

We used to award push ups for recruits in the academy who stated they had "clips" for their Glock! When I heard that I would ask them before the exercise if they had brought their grandaddy's Garand to the range and then pointed out Garands weren't authorized for on duty carry! A clip feeds a magazine! A magazine feeds a chamber! Words HAVE meaning! Good video Sir!

Randy what's your thoughts on the new 7mm Backcountry? Would love to hear!
@TheRealGunsmithСағат бұрын
I would believe Federal that barrel life will be short. In a 7mm, the accuracy falls off at 100 rounds, not 2500 rounds as they are projecting, however. I'll stick with a 7mm STW or a 7x300 Wby, and get 3200 fps+ with 175 Nosler LR AB. Will it live up to the hype? I don’t count on it, but it remains to be seen. There are indications from the article I read that they will extend this case usage to other calibers. Time will tell. Another marketing gimmick to give a huge boost to their bottom line or ??? Thanks for watching.

I read a few of Von Benedikt's articles. Then I watched him on Ron Spomer's show talking about the magic 7MM PRC( Peoples Republic Of China ). It was so sickening he should have had Hornady tattooed on his forehead. I don't read his articles anymore and do not watch Ron Spomer either. I like Hornady bullets and have toured their bullet plant in Grand Island twice. Nice people. However the 6.5 and 7mm PRC cartridges are just hype.

Hello Randy, I watch a lot of your videos and I have learned a lot from you, and agree 100% of things you have said. Idk if you answer these comments, I'm sure there are a billion of them. I do not know if you have any extensive experience with the winchester super short magnum? I have never heard you mention them and I know they do not make them anymore. With that said, I have been trying to work up loads for a 243 wssm 75gr bullet. And a 25 wssm with 110gr bullet. Can you give me some advice on what powder to use in each? I am looking for velocity and the absolute best accuracy possible. Preferably 3/4 moa or better. I have 5 shot groups with 2 flyers and 3 shot groups with one flyer. This is all at 100 yards. In a 5 shot group 3 shots are in the same hole 2 flyers. The 3 shot 2 in the same hole one shot flyer. But I am struggling to get consistency and figuring out how to bring that flyers in with the rest of the group. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me. Thank you Randy!!

You are missing the point. The common man who wants to buy factory ammo and an affordable riffle this is exactly what this cartridge is for. Especially for long range target shooting. You are stuck in a very miopic space.

About 15 Years ago I bent my rifle barrel while flipping my quad. I took it to an old time gunsmith thinking I would have to get a new barrel but was surprised when he said he could straighten it for $75 and if he couldn’t straighten it there was no charge! Having nothing to lose I said go ahead and a week later he had it done. This rifle (30-06) only liked high end expensive ammo before but after it shot best with easy to find and relatively inexpensive Federal ammunition. I don’t know what method he used but I have since taken a Bighorn Sheep and numerous mule deer with it!

I have a lathe that only has a .9 inch through bore. What do you think about turning the muzzle side of the barrel concentric with the bore then flipping it, mounting it in the chuck and threading from the tail stock end. Would this be feasible? 5:03 If this has been done what is this method called?

I have an early model 25-06 Remington Sendero. It’s my go to rifle if I’m hunting an area where I may have to kill deer out to 500 yards. With that being said. I rarely get a chance to shoot out past 100 yards. So hand loading rounds for the 25-06 is more or less an exercise in futility. Yet if I want to shoot it you have to roll your own. Ammunition is just not commercially available in my area. It’s 9mm, 5.56-.223, .308-7.62 N.A.T.O., .338 lapua around here. My rifle has around 650 rounds through it and it’s already showing minute signs of throat erosion. I’m seriously considering selling it. It’s just not a practical round where I live. It’s an excellent weapon, just not practical in my area. When I bought it. I thought it said 30-06 on the barrel. So memo to me. Take my readers to the gun show.
