Question: This is the PSA engine? Do these engines have a chain between the cams as well, or is it just the timing belt? I believe the later 2.0 diesel Ingenium engines has the belt & chain setup. Also, what about the PSA 2.7 & 3.0 diesels: all belt, or belt and chains?

Hi, thank you for watching and for your feedback. Yes the 2.2 diesel does have a chain across the camshafts, the 2.7 and 3.0 diesels also have the chains. If you watch my video "Diesel TDV6 cylinder head removal" it shows how to remove the cams / heads etc with engine removed from vehicle.

Thanks for your reply yes i almost agree but very regular oil changes over comes fuel dilution problems 4-6k plus 10w40 weight oil i have a Saab 9-3 tid that could suffer oil dilution the same way The oil drain down is the main reason for bearing to fail coupled with extended oil changes and limited use
@connormurphy8470
@connormurphy8470 Күн бұрын
The reason is the position of the oil filter and the infrequent use in the early days of its life as a cherished toy if the engine was used every day the oil film left on the journals is enough to protect them until the oil pressure is resumed after starting. If the car is left for a few days the oil drains out of the oil filter [set on the top of the engine for ease of service as often there is no room on side of the engine the closet to the critical parts of the engine where engineers would put it ] and also the bearing faces on start up the oil has to recharge the system before full protection is achieved so the bearings are slowly worn away hence low mileage ones are most at risk Nissan had a similar problem with the Navara D222

Hi, thank you for waching and for your feedback. If you watch my video " 2.7 diesel TD V6 timing belt change " It shows how to change the timing belt and whats involved with the engine removed. With the engine in the car you would need to access the belts and also unbolt the starter motor and move aside or remove to fit the crankshaft locking tool, it's more involved than the 2.2 and you have to get under the car. One point I would make is when I purchased the locking tool kit, the crankshaft tool was made to big to insert in the hole in the block and I had it machined down to fit. This was a few years ago now so I would hope that Jaguar have solved this problem and then the aftermarket ones which are copied from Jaguar should now be ok? The pin on the tool fitted in the driveplate / flexplate but the larger round part would not fit through the block.

@crystalclearmechanics I watched it. I've done some research too. In my opinion, it's down to poor design. Even thin oil would still not cause a properly set bearing to spin - if you think logically about it. As long as the shaft does not touch the bearing, (or no grit bridges them) the bearing cannot move because it's compressed in place. So in my opinion, it's simply a poor design. If the compression isn't enough on the bearing, maybe some engine vibration causes it to spin a little bit. If the compression is too much, the shaft will be too close to the bearing. In my opinion, it's nothing to do with the DPF, because other cars have DPF without these issues. I think it's some component that's leaking dirt into the oil, which then splashes into the bearing, causing scratching and pulling, or not the correct compression. Ultimately, if there was just one locating lug on any of the bearings, they wouldn't be able to spin and then couldn't be starved of oil. It's a poor design. If I buy one of these, I'll take the shells out and put a tiny amount of retaining compound on them!
@crystalclearmechanics
@crystalclearmechanics 13 күн бұрын
@@AntonyCartwright Hi Antony, I understand your theory about the design and also about the locating lugs. The fundamental question is, if it was a design fault then every one of these engines would suffer with the same failure and around the same time. I do agree about the locating lugs, from experience they did appear to stop the bearings from spinning in other engines no matter how much the bearings were worn ie XK 6 cylinders but not having the testing facilities I don't know that as fact but if they did not spin they would still wear. The DPF in itself does not cause the failure it's the DPF regeneration system ie the 12 extra injections of fuel in one full injection cycle that causes the oil dilution which in turn causes the wear through driving style the DPF system can continually try to regenerate. There are millions of these engines still on the road without this issue compared to the few that have. Jaguar have known oil dilution is the problem.

Hi, thank you for watching and for your feedback. The video you have commented on explains how the DPF regeneration system works. @@macprocm Hi, the main problem is oil dilution = driving style = constant short runs. At a range of about 250 miles run the car along a motorway for about 30 minutes which will complete a DPF regen and change the engine oil and filter around 5,000 mile intervals as a precaution.

Hi Graham, thank you for watching and for your feedback. Jaguar do not make oil, the oil is produced by an oil company in collaboration with Jaguar and marketed under the Jaguar brand. The engine was a Ford / PSA produced engine at the time Ford owned Jaguar and therefore used across the JLR range among other applications. The timing belts do not run in oil so I don;t know why you think that. Hope this information helps.

Many thanks
@crystalclearmechanics
@crystalclearmechanics Ай бұрын
Hi Wayne, thank you for watching and for your feedback. A manual gearbox has a flywheel, an automatic box has a driveplate / flexplate. they are not interchangable so no worries there. Check to see if your crankshaft locking pin is small enough to go through the hole in the block, the tool I purchased ( years ago now ) was a sealey kit ( I would assume copied from the Jaguar tool ) The small pin in the middle of the tool fits into the driveplate hole but the outside diameter of the tool did not fit through the hole in the block, the bigger round part has to fit into the hole in the block before the small pin can reach the driveplate. I checked with the Jaguar main dealers at the time and they had ground theirs down too fit, I had mine machined. It only needs a small amount removed to fit. Just a thought but check the outside diameter fits into the hole in your block first, if it does not fit in the hole then they have not rectified their measurements. Let me know and we can go from there. I will look for your reply.

Thank you so veryyyy much for the fantastic video you are a Legend 💪🫡, I been waiting ur video so I can do fix my Discovery 4 I bought a cheap car for my wife , car it’s not running for the last 4 months so I take some risk everything in the car so great so I bought, this LR4 always serviced on time by previous owner, full logbooks paperwork everything all history shows, story being so while he pulling his camper coming from very long distance about a 1000 kms and some how he find his car started leaks coolant then overheated engine in the way back so he was so close to his home about 40-60 kms drive it until arrived home , it has new AGM battery car won’t crank no click it just heard funny sound as it turn on like an electric motor similar to winch motor ? Oil level under full a bit two notch and oil cap has smell bit burn Do You reckon engine gone 😢? Then I used my scanner ATOFIX pro , I plugged it it OBD port in LR4 it shows me that I have only two faults -1 DDM (Driver Door Module) -2 PCM (Powertrain Control Module) then under the rest it says no response . When I did the scan battery was 13.8 it’s new 4 weeks old. I use a long plastic cable tight as a snack to check between the oil filter and the oil cooler if there is any oil spread because of the high temperature/pressure it might go faulty but I find all dry no oil leaks or trace all around engine very clean nothing u find only the red coolant bit track , the famous top thermostat it’s split when I just pump the hose/pipe it makes a hissing and water go through it ,, I checked the water bottle have no trace of milky liquid or in the oil and front thermostat there is a trace of red coolant and on some pipes this was before a week , and today before you send me your reply I took the fan out and I tried to crank the engine manually because I thought it might piston jammed or coked the engine or crank might be snapped who knows , but thanks God , cranked it freely I moved it both ways front and back nothing jammed or anything sounds funny? Then I tried to go searching all around the engine and I found out on the top thermostat that’s it’s sitting on the top of the oil cooler top thermostat was split damage I replaced it with new then I checked the engine oil take the screw sump to see how the oil looks like then first what came out is a pure clean water about a 2 big mugs and then a dark black oil was smells bad burned it didn’t left the constant of oil it’s still oil not oily waterish- I think because it’s been sitting too long after this incident he had with his car overheated the engine cools and oil burn cooked oil so for long it’s hold all the dehydration inside some how as no coolant all gone no oil inside coolant and no coolant in oil 🤷‍♂️. It seems head gasket I’m in it now , I’m thinking it might be a thermostat cause all this or water pump gone was faulty I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ … then I add water to the new bottle fill it up put all hoses back new thermostat battery new then i put oil from my last week oil service was done to my Td5 idea to wash the engine out with Td5 old oil then I’ll add new oil and filter…I give then put everything back together I start car won’t start engine but it’s cranking all smooth the message I see on screen is low key battery and low coolant and the water bottle is full and red yellow triangle message says Restricted Performance ?? what do u think plzzzzz I need your advice 🙏🏻🙏🏻🫡🫡 Many thanks again To youuu really you are a Legend 🙏🏻💪🫡 Cheers Matt

The replacement looks identical apart from it does not have the aditional screwcap which you remove to prime the filter. My question is can i still prine the filter by connecting a hose to one of the inlet pipes and pouring diesel via a funnel to fill the filter. I dont have any additional pumps or anything so could i do it this way? If so how would i know it is full, do i need to remove all the caps first ect to prevent air blockage etc Cheers. Great video by the way very simple to follow

Hi, thank you for watching and for your feedback. Yes you can prime the fuel filter the way you said, it's probably easier to fit it on the car remove the caps fit your pipe and funnel and fill until it comes out the other side then connect the fuel lines.

@@crystalclearmechanics thanks for your reply so do I need to fill both the low pressure and high pressure sides, is there a preference as to which pipe I use to prime it up or will any do. Should I do this before refitting any of the pipes or refit pipes after it's full.

@@soulfulshoes Hi, if you stand in front of the car looking at the engine the pipe connections on the left of the fuel filter are fuel return pipes so don't worry about whether they are connected or not. It's best to connect your pipe and funnel to the pipe connection on the right and nearest the front of the car leaving the pipe the opposite side open.

Hi, I've got an issue with the gauge readings not being accurate on my 2.2, usually sticking at around half full, so I'm guessing I need to replace the sender unit, do you know where I can find the part number for this?

Hi, thank you for watching and for your feedback.The electric plugs on top of the tank do suffer with corrosion so best check those first. The float unit can be purchased from the Jaguar main agents and it slots in the side of the swirl pot, I think the price was just over £100. If you give Jaguar your reg No they should be able to give you the part number and the price.
