Mike, doing my research for buying an e.v. (in Scotland) I watched your excellent explanation on the Tesla battery life. I have now decided to take your advice and buy one. thanks for this advice.

Honestly once I got my Tesla, I dread the rare occasion I have to drive a gas car. I'd never poo-poo someone's choice of personal transportation, but honestly it really hits different

Good video and shows the potential, I think the issues aren't going to be the useful life of the battery but more the point you picked up on premature failure of a component which then means the battery stops working. Manufacturers currently replace the battery rather than repair which is the wrong way round, hopefully here in the UK battery repairers will increase. If it was an ice vehicle it would be like replacement the entire engine because an Injector went which would be crazy!

Yeah it's unfortunately a trend with tech in general; "replace rather than repair"

Bushcraft noob over here would a glass container work equally as well for the UV exposure method of purifying water obviously the glass would be fragile so maybe not as reliable as a plastic but it's got to be cleaner right.

LFP model 3 here. I got around 50-60kwh up to 90% with genuine Tesla adapter. The Chinese knockoff version is charging fine but it is very lightweight vs genuine adapter. 😅

You could get more range if you continue riding low and steady speed, and it depends on the gears and VESC setups. If your VESC is heating over 50 c (120 F+), then efficiency is loss. Because heat creates resistance, and sometime half of those current from your battery pack is gone with the heat. I did from Chiang Mai to Pai in Thailand during the tropical season (late monsoons). The distance is about 90 miles. The way I conserved the battery is to go slow and steady speed to avoid overheat the VESC. It took me 2 recharges to get over mountain passes with my 85L backpack.

Nice adventure man, looks like fun. Not an ideal tarp setup of course, I'd always choose something with a ridgeline for tautness and correct angles, while keep air flowing through. Plenty of tarp demo's on YT if you want to explore how inventive they can get. Keep it up!

Great camp my friend - you may want to try the FlexTail Mosquito repellent lantern, requires no fuel - just a rechargeable battery. I have used it since last year and does it ever make a huge difference. Also, regarding the tarp - try and position the edge so it does not point up, that's how the water was rolling back underneath and getting you wet.

I LOVED that. Watching you experience it was great. Everytime we get a summer storm i always say to Ryan, I wish I was in my tent right now. He's probably annoyed. I love camping in a storm. Hiking in it, setting up and taking down? No thanks. It's so cool. And you chose wisely in the trees

Yeah I figured the trees would help reduce the impact/velocity of the rain

All stainless steel is NOT equal. Some is very resistant to corrosion. Corrosion is when metal gets oxidized. The definition of corrosion is “metal, returning to its natural state.” IE: we cannot stop corrosion. We can only slow its pace. Only one metal does not corrode, gold. It remains in its pure state. That’s one of the reasons it is so highly valued. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

What do you think about those cells after 4 months, are they holding well? Im thinking to use them in ebike mainly because fire risk of traditional lithium cells.
@MikeInTheWoods12 күн бұрын
Truth be told I haven't had a chance to use them much. I have an issue with the pack where the charging connector short circuited. Need to sort that out before I start using the battery again

PLA isn't really all that biodegradeable, more than others, but it will still take a very long time to degrade in warm climate and far longer in cold climate, and don't forget about the additives in PLA plus/meta/whatever "improved" versions

Based on how bad the Cybertruck actually appears to be in real life, you might want to look at an alternative. Around here, the Rivian truck and SUV are very popular and the new versions look pretty awesome. Plus, Musk is a fascist lunatic so.... yeah.

The biggest problem with 3-wheelers is that the middle wheel always runs on snow + ice, even when other vehicles have cleared the 2 lanes of their axles. Then you can have significantly less propulsion

This is sweet. I’m planning on doing a SD to Vegas trip next year. I’m in the process of building a trailer with a battery so I get 60+ miles on range. I have 2 solar panels on top wired in so it charges as I ride which is great for the long desert stint I will have going to vegas. Great vid! I love esk8 trips

I didn't expect so many electronics ! But I understand that to wait 3 hours is a lot of spare time. The problem is the battery for long trips. I have a 12s5p and it takes 5 to 6 hours to recharge for less than 50 km. If i get in the future a 10amp charger it will be better but the charger will be big heavy and noisy. I've searched for high end chargers with no success. The only solution for my point of view is to get a big battery and to charge over-night all night.
@ruhtraeel22 күн бұрын
Hello fellow Canadian/software developer/backpacking enthusiast/gamer/e-skater. Just wondering, have you ever thought about solar panels to be able to charge a battery while riding? Also, where did you get the extra batteries (what company/site), and what brand are they? I am looking into rebuilding/replacing mine, as it has been damaged due to water.
@MikeInTheWoods22 күн бұрын
Not while riding, but I do have a video on how to charge up an electric skateboard with solar! As for batteries, mine are from all over the place. My most recent ones (the big square ones) are direct from Shaboardz; the middle-sized one is from Ownboard; and I believe the little guy is either from Ownboard as well or from Meepo
