Looks good but are you afraid because you didn't flatten the slabs first and clamped them down flat that they will move in the future.? Thanks

Hi Hans, Well, you got me startled. I thought you had a new (old) lathe. But you worked on this piece three years ago! Nice piece from a willow! Thanks for sharing! __Frank
@hbwoodturning177 күн бұрын
Thank you, Frank, no, everything is fine with my lathe, but indeed, I prepared and turned this wood a number of years ago. Now that you mention it, I also knew, and it struck me that this was also my old chainsaw that I had at the time.

Thank you. Yes otherwise, it would be quite an installation to make a jig with which you can clamp the wood, so for a single piece of wood I use tape.

How did you get that Tennon off so easy? What did you poor? Amazing work!
@hbwoodturning1720 күн бұрын
Hello, thank you for watching my video and your reply, to dissolve hot melt glue I use denatured alcohol (and patience). I make a hole in the tenon in advance, into which I can pour the denatured alcohol at the end. Once you have poured the alcohol in, you have to wait until the glue releases, which can take 15 to 30 minutes.

Nice form Hans. Cypress is supposed to be a light and soft, and warps a lot as it dries. Did you find any of those qualities ? Take care my friend. -Mike
@hbwoodturning1720 күн бұрын
Hello Mike, yes that's right, the wood warps when it dries, and it is light and easy to turn and finish, and the wood also smells nice when you work it, especially when it is fresh.

@hbwoodturning1720 күн бұрын
Thank you Mike, yes the wood is fragile and lightweight, it is easy to turn and simple to finish. The wood is called satin walnut, I understand that satin because when you sand it the surface is just like satin, but I don't understand that walnut part, it is not a type of walnut tree

@hbwoodturning1720 күн бұрын
Thank you Mike, if you like spalted wood, I have sawdust from spalted beech wood stored with a few pieces of cherry wood stored in garbage bags, it seems that the mold then also spreads to the other wood (it must be true I saw it on the internet)
@mpart_woodlathe-stuff20 күн бұрын
@@hbwoodturning17 Apparently there's mold in the air too - i have some blanks that weren't spalted when they came in but after a few years sitting around, they got spalted. (probably in my lungs too. Ugh.)

Ho un dubbio: quale è lo spessore del vasetto? Dipende dal tipo di legno? Grazie
@hbwoodturning17Ай бұрын
Ciao, grazie per aver guardato il mio video e la tua risposta, la parete della ciotola ha uno spessore di circa 7 mm e per aver stimato quanto sottile puoi renderlo dipende in gran parte dalle condizioni del legno e da quanto sottile osi andare

Yes, I saw this piece in a pile of sawn-off pieces at my work, and I thought it would be a shame if this became firewood. I noticed that the wood grain ran diagonally through this piece of wood and I hoped that it would make a nice, visible, and special wood grain, and that worked.
@mrPauljacob2 ай бұрын
Nice... I hate when I can't get the damn work piece to line back up again after it gets a wobble.. what sealer is that you use? And also do you recommend a certain brand of friction Polish?
@hbwoodturning172 ай бұрын
Hello, yes that can be annoying sometimes, but it is always a challenge to solve it. I use Borma Wachs Basis for quick-drying wood filler because it is versatile and dries quickly partsandpieces.nl/en/product/borma-wachs-basis-voor-sneldrogende-houtvuller/ . I use Chestnut friction polish and that works for me, and it is available from my local supplier and I have not tried any other brand yet
