We tried to introduce a new cat, 4 years old when the resident cat is 1 year old. The new cat was depressed for almost three days, didn't interact with anybody, didn't eat, didn't use a litter box, was hiding wherever he could, totally disassociating himself from the surroundings and his needs. The resident cat was always curious, he was not aggressive, tried to interact with him, and even tried to punch him, and the new cat was hissing and defending himself, but even after a while he stopped responding to it in any way. Just dominated by the resident cat and disassociated. The owner took him back, but there will be a time when we need to keep him for nine months, and I'm worried as hell. What should I do?

Very good video. I have a 1.5 year old male Bengal Cat and I can relate to really everything you said. He is a big trouble maker, but the cutest and most affectionate cat I have ever had in 30 years of owning normal house cats. In my opinion Bengals are less aggressive than other breeds. They are just active and playful, which is often mistaken as being aggressive. When we have small kids over, my Bengal shows the most patients with them I have ever seen a cat showing. He doesnt react at all when his tail is being pulled or he gets hit accidently. There is nothing of these things that make him mad or attack. On the other side, he sometimes starts to bite when I pet him. But it is clearly only playing. He starts to carefully take my hand and bites very softly and looks at me like: "Is that ok for you, I really want to do that, but I dont want to hurt you." When I tell him to stop, he stopps right away and starts to lick me, like he is really sorry hurting me. After like 2 minutes he starts to bite very softly again. That is really hilarious. The intelligence and the way Bengal interact with us humans is so much different to normal cats. I wouldn't change him for anything, even though he is a lot of work and I spend way too much money for toys, which he ruins after just a few minutes.

We had a 4 month old resident cat, and just got a 2 month old kitten. I’m new to cats, and after doing a lot of reading, i seen so much about how they need friends! Our resident cat plays aggressively with us. I wanted to get him a friend to try to calm him down a bit! It’s now been 3 days of quarantining the new kitten. I’ve switched scents back and forth and have been trying to do the Jackson Galaxy method but live in a small space and feel bad for the kitten being locked in the bathroom because she just cries and cries when i put her back in there. I let her out to play and explore a few times each day. They have not seen each other at all. The resident cat just hisses when he hears or smells her scent. I think I am going to try this method out. I know that he needs a friend he’s just used to being the only one! And knowing something is in the bathroom is stressing him out and I want them to both be happy! Anyone have another other advice for me? I would greatly appreciate it.

in the exact same boat (except both 9 months old), feel so bad leaving either cat in the bathroom. i really feel like just trying something else because even some beef with the other kitten should be better than just being in the bathroom all day :(

I just adopted a 4 month old female kitten (fixed) and i have a 1 1/2 year old fixed male at home. They both didn’t seem nervous about each other at all. He keeps chasing her around and wanting to play. The only thing is i think he gets TOO excited and starts going hard ((,: its hard to know if its just play or if its about the get crazy. She always runs back to him so idk maybe its okay?

Great video. In all my years of introducing dogs and cats I never did the slow separation thing for weeks. We give a couple hours to settle and then start introductions. It's always worked fine and all turn out to be best of friends. Even cross species (dogs to cats and vice versa). It's nice to see someone else using a quicker paced method with success. 😊 Your cats are adorable!

I thought my apartment was small. This guy has three kittens in a studio.!! if he can do it, anyone can. The heart part is having patience. Definitely would have to have the kitten fenced in. Too much energy for the older cat and keeps wanting to go play with him. Can’t constantly keep the kitten from wanting to play with the older Kat. Didn’t work out.

I wish that I watched this video before I brought a new kitten home from the shelter. I have a small one bedroom apartment. Initially, I put the kitten in my room. My other cat was curious and sat watching the door most of the time. I thought my cat, six years old, seemed to be in the good enough mood to introduce them. I was really scared because I didn’t know how my cat would react Because it’s just him and I these years he has about five times. I never saw him act like that. I gave up way too fast. I ended up giving the kitten to my son who lives next-door. Hoping I can introduce them later on at some point. What my question is since my cat is laid-back and really isn’t interested in playing nearly as much as he did,how do I keep this kitten who is curious about everything, away from him. The kitten has so much energy.

I work with community cats...ferals...one of our community cats is a Russian Grey...how did she ever come to be in this life...she is gorgeous...highly intelligent...playful with her colony cats, particulairly Buster ( another feral), an amazing, dedicated mother who lost many babies and adolesents to this hard ,hard this life...I adore her...and respect her for being who she is in such an ugly environment. I have never played or had a cuddle, but we know each other. We are trying to relocate her to a Feral Cat Santuary, but she is very dedicated to her world. She bumped into me once when running under a building I was feeding at...I think that might have been her first human touch...her name is MaMa.

We have a 4 month old kitten and we wanted to introduce a 1 month old kitten. 4 month old was having a hissy fit growling and hissing, but not attacking the newbie. she did scratch us when we touched her, but she was clearly in defense mode/dominance mode after seeing a new cat for the first time. We're going to take it slower from now on, get their scents mixed together

We rescued a five or six week old kitten last week,it was really sudden so we were not ready and especially not my cats. They're older so they don't play anymore and the older are very stressed and angry 😢 they're taking each on each other My room is the "base" mostly bc that's where I do home office and the older cats prefer to stay. I'm getting so stressed between the work and the cats. I feel horrible thinking I just tried to do something right saving a kitten but actually harming my older ones. The kitten still doesn't have a "personal" space yet, ive tried playing with them together but the older ones hide or go to different parts of the house when really fed up. I feel horrible

Just stumbled on your videos today and love them. I have a semi-feral cat colony I take care of on our property. It got out of control this year - 20 kittens and 8 adults! 😳 Almost all adults are fixed but now the little floof butts are growing and need it too. They stay in our garage, which is open all year long for them. Other animals go in there too - it's a mess. We have shelves for tools and I cleared one entire large for the kitties but I am thinking about adding some hanging items for them. Thanks for the inspirations.

I hate to say this but they need a negative response to their behavior. In nature a sibling or adult cat will swat n hiss. Just a simple tap on their nose is all it takes. Every bite, before it is acceptable behavior. Bite = tap on the nose. Not hard, not painful. Just annoying..

I found a kiten outside and adopted him. He was only about 4 weeks. Hes a few months old now and he has a huge habit of play biting. I just loudly say " NO BITE" and he stops or he will hesitate and then not do anythin and lose intrest . He loves to come out of nowhere and POUNCE and bite my arm if im preoccupied. My reflexes have gotten pretty good. Hes gotten better at knowing when not to bite my hands and arms but when it comes to my ankles he doesnt give a crap and is ready to charge and bite! I dont know what to do about that part.🫤

I have an 8 year old and tried to introduce a 4 month old and it has failed. My older cat growls, howls and is generally really unhappy. Although they don’t have full on fights. They have been together about two months and there are still problems. Is it too late to go back to try and help them?

Last year and a half I introduced my stray to my indoor cat once the stray became sick of the kidneys and could no longer live outside. They don't get along after almost 18 months. Last week I saved a kitten who's like six or seven weeks old, so it's made things worse. I thought that because it's a kitten and the older cats are female it'd have been easier 😢 I really had no intention of making things bad. I just wanted to do the right thing and save a life

I tried the isolation method 13 years ago and my female cat (resident cat) ended up never liking my male cat. They were only a year apart in age as well. The male would try to be friendly with her, but she would always growl, swat, and hiss at him right up to his last day on this earth... No matter what, a fight always broke out, fur strewn about. The male had two floors of the house and the female lives in a large basement with me. I sadly had to put my male cat down due to osteosarcoma and we just got two three month old tabby brothers, so I'll be trying this quicker method this time. Thank you!

I have four cats, all female. Misha about a year old, the last one I adopted arrived about a month ago. I did not perform the no isolation method, always watching all of them. During the firsts weeks, no many hiccups on the early days, all worked fine, everyone arrived to eat when I poured food on their separate dishes, no problems with the litter box. But as time grew by, Schnell the youngest of the original cats, around three years old, became aggressive towards Misha. I had a two week trip planned and I hoped that my brother, who is my roommate, was able to take care of the bunch, his girlfriend ran into some serious responsibilities, leading to a minimum care for the cats. As I returned from the trip, I found that the relationship between Schnell and Misha worsened. I isolate Misha for a couple of days, but she keeps meowing. I have tried to be present with all of them trying to keep the environment tranquil. Aggressions have lowered by a bit, but what would you recommend in this situation. I have noticed that Misha marks territory and I believe that upsets Schnell?
