Nice set-up. I have the same basket as you, where you put your cords under the desk. I was thinking of putting my back-up box in there too; right now it's just on my desk. I also have a multiple USB holder because I use them all regularly, so I push the button when I need it, then eject it afterwards. My camera's USB is on that too, which I keep ejected unless needed. You don't have a printer? Our office is ~25' long and can accommodate 5 people, but 4 comfortably (i.e. one with enough desk space to type on a laptop). Now that we're empty-nesters, we divided the space in two, plus a wing for the printer, which stand in between us. Cupboards (8) on top, 2 lateral filing cabinets, and a large and tall office supply cabinet with drawers. We had a good deal at IKEA years ago so it's all nice and woody.

TickTick habit tracker is discouraging because as soon as we talk about an activity that we don't do every day, we always feel like we're not doing it, because the app only values consecutive days.

Nice video, thank you! Is there an option to add more than one location for a task? For example, add all a few supermarkets that are close to me, because I don't know on which I will land sooner.

Holly s$€t man! I used TT for years, and was always copying the link from the original task/note to insert it into another one... 🤦🏼♂️ Thanks you for this discovery!!!

This feature can be incredibly helpful for people with ADHD. There’s a type of memory called "prospective memory," which is essentially "remembering to remember." The example of bread and the local store may not be particularly useful because you likely know what you’re going to the store for, or you might have a fixed grocery list. But let’s tweak this example a bit. Let’s say you plan to visit your parents sometime soon, but you’re not sure exactly when. When you do go, you’ll need to search your old room for a small item. You don’t want a constant reminder like “get something from parents’ house” popping up and distracting you. Instead, you want to remember it only when you’re actually there. Some might say, "Well, just make a task on a 'not urgent' list and check it when you arrive at your parents’ place." This is where prospective memory is critical. I might or might not check this list. I might forget to "remember to remember" to check what I was supposed to retrieve. In fact, if I remember to check the list, it’s likely because I already remembered I had something to do at my parents' house. I use this concept in real life. Here’s an example: I usually park at a guarded lot a short distance from my home, but sometimes I leave my car nearby and have to pay for parking via an app. I leave the car in the evening and start the parking timer, which begins charging at 8 a.m. Usually, I remember to leave a card for the parking attendants showing I paid online. The next day, I see the card and remember to turn off the parking timer in the app. But sometimes I forget to put the card on the dashboard. In those cases, there’s a 99% chance that I’ll retrieve my car, park it in the guarded lot, head to work, and completely forget to shut off the parking timer for the rest of the day. Now, I set a location-based reminder, so when I arrive at the guarded lot, TickTick prompts me to check if I’ve left the parking timer running. This reminder is somewhat of a "standing" alert, meaning I don’t mark it as done; I just clear it from my notifications screen. It will appear again next time I arrive at the guarded lot. This is a niche application, and most people might not need this type of prospective memory aid. But for someone with ADHD, it can save a lot of money. A while ago, I reparked my car and left the parking timer running, costing me around $40. Setting this reminder is well worth the effort for me.

I knew about this feature and I really like it, but I don't remember how I found out about it. From what I see, it's definitely not from the documentation:D This is a powerful feature, I tested for a while creating a small CRM system in TickTick, and then the cross-linking between Leads, Contacts, Accounts, etc. was very useful. I eventually gave up using TickTick as a CRM, but this feature worked great. TickTick should definitely promote it more. And if not to promote it, at least not to hide it as carefully as you showed in the video:D

LOL. This is the first time I know something before you. I knew about the slash but not the double brackets. I use it mainly for tags. I wasn't too sure why I would attach notes together. In your other videos, I had just listened to 7 minutes of ads (YT told me my AdBlock was now illegal on YT) and was a bit miffed, so I fast-forwarded that video a lot; I will have to go back to it.
@JoshuaBest8 күн бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about the ad situation. So were there multiple ads on the video? I thought there was only supposed to be one ad in the middle of a video? Or was it just a really long ad that you couldn't skip?
@thepeddler92268 күн бұрын
@@JoshuaBest They were both on the same video, and I missed the skip button on the first ad (1:52), then the 2nd one (3:25) started and I couldn't skip it. I went to do something else while it was running and missed the whole thing so I started it again (no ads this time) but I was fast-forwarding a few times. I need to go back to listen to the entirety of it. I guess it was only 5 minutes of ads. LOL.

Just type two square brackets [[ and select the note you want to to link to in TickTick. Just like you would in other apps like Workflowy and Obsidian.

You can add a link in a note to another note by starting with the "/" key and use autocomplete, like Obsidian.

@amandarogers16469 күн бұрын
I agree that TickTick is great for short or temporary notes. Obsidian's ability to live on your own computer is great, but how do you link to it? For me, since TickTick is my productivity hub, I need a note taking app that I can easily link to in TickTick, which is why I prefer Notion over Obsidian. That big project that I'm working on in TickTick? I can easily link to a page in Notion that I need for that project. So everything is together and accessible in the project folder in TickTick even though the note lives on a different platform (Notion). I don't have to go searching for those notes in Notion every time I need them.

@JoshuaBest9 күн бұрын
You use Workflowy for notes? Or what goes in Workflowy vs TickTick?
@SridharKatakam9 күн бұрын
@@JoshuaBest Yes. TickTick for task management and habits tracking. Everything else goes in Workflowy. An outliner works best for me. Everything is a bullet that can be infinitely nested and the most important thing is being able to zoom into a specific node for full focus.

Many people think that a habit tracker is for drinking water or exercising but it could be for so much more than that. Just use your imagination. When it's time to do my income taxes, I make sure to work on them every night for a week, and then I'm done until next year. I use it to not forget to see our granddaughter so her visits don't get lost with everyday life; we live in different cities so it's a day trip. Of course, I also have the famous water counter and the treadmill too.

Joshua, I love your videos! Keep them coming. I am having the same dilemma you are. I've been a TickTick user for several years now. I love the way it handles tasks and the way the interface looks and feels. I am deeply in the Apple ecosystem = phone, watch, Mac, and 3 different iPads (mini, Air and Pro). I have a lot of notes in Apple notes, but primarily household info, car info, travel, etc. Nothing really too private or sensitive. It is convenient to have that info across devices. Like you I wanted to have something that stored notes locally and I could have "permanently." I ended up putting my Vault in iCloud since I can access it across devices and backing up to Google Drive. I primarily use Obsidian for logging Daily Notes and taking notes on areas I'm interested in, like stoicism, yoga, etc.

I have several things I need to do in the morning and it's all batched-up in TT as "morning routine". It takes me 1.5-2 hours per day. Included is checking my emails (10-35 depending on the day), newsletters from publishers and authors, social media (least amount of time) for me is Bored Panda; I might take a quick look on Pinterest and websites I need to visit (the 3 same every day). I'll recheck my emails (3-5) late in the afternoon. The rest of the day is spent either reading (my job), housework/cooking, and something on my list to do on TT (Income Taxes, contracts, working on my spreadsheets, etc.) that needs more deep work. That last part is difficult as I'm tired and/or think I can procrastinate for later on. Listening to this video just confirmed that I needed to cut-off or separate what I'm doing. Apart from my routine, I had 2 specific tasks I had to do every day and they were recurrent every week. I changed that to 1/day every 2 weeks and switched between the 2 tasks. Much better, less stress. I'm going to cut-off on BP to only one article per day so I'll have to be choosy. Did Arnold Bennett write the book How to Live on 24 Hours a Day? That's where the quote from 1912 came from. I have that book. Really interesting. Help keeping priorities. There's a big difference the way I use my phone and how my husband uses his. I don't have emails, YT, etc. on my phone. I use it for TickTick, WhatsApp, pictures, and when we go on vacation (boarding passes, etc.). The rest is done on my PC. My husband uses it for X, LinkedIn, emails, messages, etc. He's much more on his phone than I am. If we're both in a waiting room, I'll either people watch and listen to their stories or pull-out one of my e-books; he's going to check his phone. LOL.

@JoshuaBest Do you use any of the other priorities for anything? Or just the high priority for next actions? Also, why use priority for next action, rather than a tag? You could just use a next action tag. Curious why you prefer priority.
