Thanks for sharing! I got two questions: 1) Are the small circular stuff magnets, of which you use for stabilization? And if yes do you have a metal surface underneath? 2) Were those stencil layers acetate? And if yes, how do you transfer the stencil design from printed paper to acetate? Tape together and cut? Thanks a lot for your time
@AnthonyAspero2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The small circles are just coins, no magnets involved haha. And yes, I just tape the printed design to the acetate and cut. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@christoskonnaris2 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyAspero hey, thanks for getting back to me. Just curious why coins? Cause just for their weight, they are not enough to offset potential movement or bleeding, right?

i know how hard it is to cut all this by hand.And i know it it coll to be cutted by hand but time is most valuable think .Why dont u use a plotter to cut for you?

Hey Anthony! First of all, your images are amazing! I have done this technique on a smaller scale using a Cameo cutter to make the stencils. To do these larger images, are you using a large format printer to print each stencil layer on paper and then cutting each layer by hand? I was trying to figure out how to get the larger images to cut out. Thanks!
@AnthonyAspero3 жыл бұрын
Yup, that’s exactly what I’m doing! FedEx office prints them pretty cheaply. Thanks for the kind words!
@Serenitees3 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyAspero Thanks for the info! So you just bring the large images to FedEx and they print them on plain paper? Who knew!

Such an amazing idea. Thanks for sharing it. Love that it eliminates an environmental hazard & a health hazard. Sprays give me insane headaches, but it also saves money. You're a genius.

I am glad I have a scanncut2, it will separate the picture up to 6 different colors and auto detect your cut lines. For converting images to black and white use any free SVG converter. I paid less than 300 dollars for my scanncut2. Way faster and easier.

informative for sure but completely useless if you plan on actually making functional stencils...this just produces a stenciled look to an image. still good info though

Thank you for watching! You are right about that, which is why I put the note towards the end about figuring out the islands and bridges on your own. I used to take the time to map out all my cuts in PS, now I just do it while I'm cutting. I think that is the 'art' in all this, at times. It really makes you consider what you are doing and how it will impact the final product. Thanks again!

Fantastic Invention, Absolute Genius! Been dealing for years with troublesome Spray Adhesive for years. Too much spray adhesive and you'll destroy underneath layers, leave a residue and risk destroying your stencil and smearing wet paint trying to peel it off. Too little spray adhesive and you risk getting bleeding and overspray where fine details haven't stuck down properly. Re-positioning and fine adjusting the stencil to get the right registration was near on impossible, especially if you're doing multiple layers. You have to wait for the adhesive to reach proper tackiness then, if you've found the perfect balance and you sprayed and it turned out OK, you have to deal with the permanent stickyness which makes it troublesome in storing your stencil. So I made some spiders and the results turned out great! It just took a bit more time making sure the thin bridges and fine details were held down but this so much easier, perfect clean lines and removing the stencil was a cinch. Fuck man I'd patent this, it's simple, cheap and works so well. Just an idea you could 3D print a ton of these and make it so you could adjust the length and swivel the legs around. Unfortunately this only works if your working in a horizontal surface, if your spraying on a wall or a vertical surface (I guess that's the definition of wall: 'a vertical surface') you'll still need spray adhesive, but a great idea to de-tacky a spray adhesive coated stencil is to coat it with baby powder or bi-carb soda and rub it off later. Thanks heaps!

Great video - do you print out each individual layer? What if I wanted to apply the stencils to a larger canvas, say 8x10, or higher? How would I scale up each layer to accommodate a high image size? Thx
@AnthonyAspero8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I save each individual layer as a psd and have them printed large-format at fedex office. You could theoretically scale them to whatever size you want, but they only print 36" wide, so you would have to tile them.

Thank you for watching! Always use high resolution images for your source photos, if possible. And even if your picture becomes pixelized while enlarging, you can still make smooth cuts that will eliminate the pixels in the final product.
