Hey what's up GPS! Congrats on your new Synology box! I just got mine a few months ago and right now I use it as a media server for my crib but now you have given me a new idea to try out! Thanks 4 sharing and as always, I appreciate all that you do for us! Be easy and safe!

That is so sick, very nice GPS! Synology is a good company. At my old job it's what we used for our hot storage for video production/editing.

A local setup like this with Portainer and the free version of TwinGate is a fun project.

Awesome Video!! I build my NAS using recycle NAS Device from Third-party IT Company and installed TrueNAS Scale. It's literally contains all my backup from all my servers. Love It!!

I've been using a NUC for doing things like this. Minimal storage needs but lets me play around. I want to setup a 3 node K8s cluster at some point once I have fiber at the house this fall, self hosting will be much easier.

Building a home lab is such a cool project. I have been working on my own as well cause I missed the hands on Infra work I started with.

Can you update the 5 projects vid? I think there was a project that required a local datacenter and cloud one

I'm not kind of expert on this, but regarding protection against bit rot and data recovery, any reason why Qnap's ZFS would be better than Synology's BTFS?

I never considered a homelab strictly as strickly a on-prem environment. It can be in the Cloud like linode or locally on your laptop. I have a server rack at home that integrates with Azure and aws instances as a hybrid approach. Most businesses are Hybrid anyways. Cloud is just an extension of my homelab.

Nice one, been looking to save up for one of these myself

you are going to hvae SOOO much fun doing home lab. you will also encounter some major annoyances since you do not have a vendor service fabric at your disposal like you do in AWS/Azure/GCP.

What media server software will you use? Emby, Jellyfin or Plex?

Yummy irresistible clickbait title 😅. Look forward to learning how your home network turns out. Am hoping to setup wired cloud/network on my cybertruck, didn't think about synology which can stream and other stuff. Cheers for the ideas.
