Thank you for explaining this in a way that I can actually understand! You are truly a skilled professor and researcher, and your videos are a joy to watch.

Hi Ben, I just found something I did not understand (at around the 9-10 minute mark of your video), while looking up the Adipo IR Score: I read in PubMed Central (PMC5460729) "Insulin suppresses lipolysis efficiently in lean insulin-sensitive humans, but less so in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes (1). This adipose insulin resistance results in excess free fatty acid (FFA) delivery to other tissues, which may contribute to ectopic fat deposition and insulin resistance (lipotoxicity) (2). " This seems to be the opposite what I understood from your lecture, ie, that increased insulin resistance in the adipose cells would decrease the amount of FFA. Unless, of course, they are referring to the time when the fat cell has become so large, that it must leak FFA in spite of the presence of insulin, to save itself from exploding. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Professor Bikman, can you please explain the effect HLA-B27 has on insulin resistance? And what effects eating certain foods such as going on a carnivore/keto based diet has on my condition? I have been diagnosed with mild plaque in my arteries now and severe joint pain from RA. Ive gone ketovore but worried about plaque building. My cardiologist is insisting i go on a statin, ive refused. PLEASE HELP, any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Dr Phil Ovadia was on a podcast slamming saturated fat and says there has not been one study on Keto diet. And he loves Ancel Keys’ research. Even liberal NPR has an article how Keys was paid off by sugar industry. Thanks Dr. Bikman for this info. It takes a lot of courage to go against the grain.

Dr. Bikman, I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you for the important work that you do. Will using salt in a carnivore diet help with stroke recovery or improve nerve function with MS? I have spinal MS and no brain lesions.

It would be great if BB offered a lecture on gluconeogenesis. Is it need-based which occurs as a result of blood glucose dropping? Of will all excess meat eaten turn to belly fat?😮

I have lipedema, Self-Diagnosed but pretty obvious. I am so thankful that more is being learned about this particular disease. And I jumped on your video about it. Yay! Thank you for getting more information out there. I've noticed that if I intake I guess too much salt. I don't seem to process it well and I'll start to swell from it. It's my understanding that there is water in the fat tissue, more so than normal. So I was wondering if maybe lowering my salt and perhaps doing some dry fasting would help in my case. Or is there another piece to the puzzle that I need to put into place to keep the swelling from happening. I'm curious as to what your thoughts would be on that.

On a keto diet I eat huge amounts of saturated fat through bacon, red meat, eggs etc. and my triglycerides are ROCK bottom at 43 and HDL is a VERY healthy 84 and my waste circumference is 34. Take that food industry that's forever trying to hook me on carbs!

Dr. Bikman, what daily balance between carbs, protein and fat do you recommend? And, regarding fat, how much saturated, mono- and poly?
@jesseramirez239 сағат бұрын
You don’t need to eat sat fat, your body makes all sat fat it needs, it’s a non essential nutrient so why even eat it? The best thing you can do for high blood pressure is eat with low sodium, high potassium and eat your vegetables. It takes a lot of carbs for liver to run lipogenesis, I agree with no refined carbs, but to say that if you eat a boiled potato or beans or lentils that the carbs from those will run through lipogenesis is totally absurd. The liver will run the glucose through glycolysis and not through lipogenesis. Eat a lot fat diet and you won’t have any issues

Saturated fat is only bad if you have the ApoE4 allele or cholesterol hyperabsorption. If you do have these, then you will have to avoid saturated fat as if it were seed oil or high fructose corn syrup and replace them with olive oil and avocados. Otherwise, enjoy your saturated fats. I have an ApoE4 allele and cholesterol hyperabsorption and I am limited to lean meats, fish, olive oil, avocados, and vegetables.

My fatty liver disease was at 395 for this particular scan, 400 being the very worst! (Over 400 starts cirrhosis) That is the day I stopped drinking wine! I didn't drink hard alcohol. I also stayed at 40 carbs, or less, which included counting the fiber. Do NOT subtract the fiber from total carbs! One year later I redid that scan, I had zero sign of NAFLD. That will be two years ago June! I also lost 70 lbs, AND lost so much inflammation! I was in an awful lot of pain, today I am active, feel well, and started seeing a workout coach to gain my muscle back! I was in so much pain before that scan, I was in bed most of the day. I have my life back! Excellent explanation of fatty liver! Thank you Sir!

My doctor thinks I should go on statins, LDL 150, HDL 74, triglycerides 61. Please give me your opinion Dr. thank you!
@lemunbalm373115 сағат бұрын
I took these notes after listening to one of Ben Bikman‘s podcasts: “Triglycerides divided by HDL cholesterol. If that number is 1.5 or less, you are most likely insulin sensitive (favorable) If that number is higher, you are insulin resistant. (unfavorable) HDL to Triglycerides should be 1:1 or higher: 2:1, 3:1, etc. For good heart health. (Less chance of heart attack)” It sounds like your labs are good! From everything I’ve learned, statins are not a beneficial drug. They have not been shown to reduce mortality, and they have many serious side effects. Side effects include: muscle pain and weakness, sexual dysfunction, mental fogginess, gastric pain and upset, increased blood glucose, and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. From what I’ve been learning, statins are the most profitable drug for the pharmaceutical industry. So, it will take a while before the tide shifts from doctors prescribing statins and articles stop promoting them.

Great subject 👌 Dr . I'm on my ketogenic way of eating (once again.) This time around is significantly different because I need to make this my lifestyle. **I am adding more fat this time. I'm adding more marbled red meat, also, extra butter to my meals to achieve longer lasting saity. I'm rarely hungry and losing about 2 lbs per week. Im 68yrs old and pretty much sedentary because of agressive, widespread osteoarthritis. I really enjoy your podcasts and shares. 🎉

I have a question that is not directly related to the topic of this video. A year or so ago, you delivered a talk on the effect of ketones on mitochondrial biology. You stated that evidence from cell cultures and rodent studies revealed that ketones have a beneficial effect on mitrodondria by stimulating their biogenesis and promoting fusion. You mentioned that human studies were being done to validate these findings or something along these lines, and I am wondering if there has been such a thing? If not, how would you go about validating these results, and what barriers are preventing researchers from doing so? Thank you!

17:43 can you site the paper that looked at varying blood lipid breakdown with a conclusion that high LDL and low VLDL has the lowest risk of heart attack? I had a heart attack in 2017, went plant based for 6 years and never got much better. This plant based diet even included long periods (6+months) of nothing but raw veggies 🤮). I’ve been on a high fat keto diet for 1 year and virtually every bio market has improved (greatly) EXCEPT LDL. It seems I fall into a bucket called LMHR. What I noted upon getting my lipid panel is that for the first time, to my knowledge, in my adult life I had mostly pattern A LDL and my VLDL is now very low. My intuition and from what I’ve learned about lipids told me this was actually a good thing. This is the first time I’m getting any sort of evidence supporting this thinking.
