Quick tip for you Scott (& Alana)...turn the oil bottle/cannister on it's side before you begin to pour. You'll get less of an airlock and the glugging effect...

Hahahaha I've had to deal with Alana saying, "I told you so," all morning because of your comment 😂. Alana was saying in the video exactly what you said, but once I was committed, it was too late. 😂 Maybe next year when we do this, I'll let Alana show me how it's done. 😄 - Scott

@ScottandAlana4x4 Indeed! I've learned over the years to always give the other half's way a go in the first place...saves so many arguments!😂

I was just wondering when trying to get the oil into the funnel, if you got a bigger filter and if you can manage it, try turning it side ways as the glugging affect is slightly less trouble.

Hopefully in 2025 when we next service the Freelander, I can redeem myself by doing just that 👍😁. - Scott

Hi Drone Freak 👋. With the amount we got out, I don't think there would've been a huge amount of old oil kicking around in the sump. 😃 Even if there was, we generally only do about 6,000 miles in the Freelander 2 in a year. With oil technology these days, the oil we are dropping out could probably do another 10,000 without breaking a sweat. 😁 On the plus side, having a bit of old oil in the system is no bad thing. Trying to read the Freelander 2's dipstick when the oil is brand new and the same colour as the dipstick is a nightmare! 🤣 It's much easier when the oil gets a bit darker in colour 😁. - Scott

Hi Sabata 👋. It sounds like a tough situation to be in. The only thing that I can suggest is to sign up to the Freel2.com forum and ask if anyone else knows where you can get the parts that you need. I've seen that sometimes people from different parts of the world post on there and someone from the same country is able to help them out. 😃 - Scott

Hi guys, your video on the Haldex and diff / gear box oils great tip, also the main belt and water pump changed as well. I did mention before I got a 2011 Freelander 2 in Spain had it all do at a JLR main dealer so all good, if I tried the oil and filter change it would be a disaster lol. Great video thanks.

I always find having the main belt and water pump changed really satisfying whether you do it yourself or have someone else do it for you purely because you know it's a job that won't come around again for ages. 😁 Maybe take a shot at doing the oil and filter and make sure to film it. It could make for some great viewings. 😁 - Scott

What is the size/spec of the screws you used for the engine air filter housing? Just did mine and the rear screws won’t bite the lower holes.

Hi Michael 👋 Hopefully this link will work but it was these: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186570301728 They basically cut their own threads into the airbox hole. I'm sure there are cheaper and better ways to secure the airbox shut such as a nut, washer and a small bolt maybe. 😃 - Scott

Nooooooo! Don't listen to all those people who claim that you can safely go a lot more miles on oil and filter. You are changing it every 6000 miles, and that is fine. Keeps a healthy engine. I change even more often, 5000 km. You know that Land Rovers absurd long intervals can make the engine break down. Who makes that nice front sump guard? Cheers.

I'd love to send an oil sample off to a specialist to have it analysed to see how "well used" it actually is or not. But no, we wouldn't let the oil go for any longer than we do. If nothing else but for the filter, which looked very well used. 😁 We would do an oil change more often if it wasn't for the price of oil! 🙈😄 The sump guard is a Mantec sump guard. But they haven't made it for years. We were lucky to find a brand new one on eBay one day. 😀 - Scott

Your air filter would stay cleaner alot longer if u clean the air box out

another great video guy's. Scott please wear some safety specs, don't want any of the dirt and mud getting in your eyes mate.

But I did squint when I saw mud falling... 😁 Nah, joking aside, I should be wearing safety specs when doing this, and as you know from the video, I was fully aware that I should've had them on. I thought they were in the red bucket until Alana informed me that she had nabbed them and they were in her work bag. I'll make sure to pick up another pair to make sure they are in our trusty bucket of random stuffs. 👍😁 - Scott

Hi guys. Literally just done this job, do it religiously every 6 months whatever the mileage - getting at the oil housing always a pleasure 😁 Actually use 0-30 Castrol Edge myself on my pre-dpf but doubt it makes too much difference when changed regularly. Use Mann or febi filters and as you say replace the plug and washer as good practice. 🫡👍

All the best people service their Freelander's this sort of time. 😁👍 At least doing it every 6 months, you know the engine is going to be in great shape, you would hope. 😀 - Scott
