These are my troubleshooting steps on how to fix our car which had no AC and no fan. The car's Blower Motor Resistor / Module and connector were burned up. I also explain why changing your Cabin Air Filter is important. Repair.

Excellent video. I currently have the same problem with my 2010 Ford Fusion, and I will follow your example. My local Maryland Ford dealer was essentially going to fix the issue, intermittent blower operation by part swapping. They charged me $90 to “diagnose” the problem and said I needed a new switch, pigtail connector and blower motor, and offered to fix the problem for what they considered to be a reasonable cost of $900. I naturally declined and will instead install a new cabin filter and pigtail from the source you provided. By the way, if your son’s car was driven in an area where they use salt on the roads please check the rear subframe (some call it a cross-member) for safety, as they are notorious for rust on the 2006 to 2010 Ford Fusions. Many thanks!

Thanks! Will do. I ordered a new cabin filter yesterday, just as a precaution. The blower motor is currently working, but had gone intermittent twice in the last month, leading me to doubt the dealer’s conclusion that the switch and motor needs replacing. I suspect the problem is just in the pigtail. Ultimately, I just would like the car to last us at least until near year-end when we will likely replace it. Sadly, fixing the rusty cross-member will cost more than the car is worth. No complaints though, as we’ve gotten 340,000 miles out of it in the last 15 years, and the motor and transmission have never been opened. It’s been a great car and we hope your son is as lucky with his. Unfortunately, here in Maryland they mix beet sugar with the road salt to make it better adhere to the roads, but that also applies to vehicles. Ours usually always expire from rust long before they have to be taken out of service for mechanical issues. Best Regards!

Thanks! I fixed the car today. The problem was, as predicted, a melted pin connection. I bought the Hotput pigtail you recommended. It worked well, except that the wiring connectors included in the package were too small in diameter to even accept the wires on their own pigtail, so I had to purchase ones of the correct size. All told, the repair cost me about $25 versus Crouse Ford’s quote of $900 for the repair. The dealer did get me for a $99 diagnosis fee, which was entirely bogus, as they said I needed a new switch, blower, and resistor. If they had really diagnosed the problem they would have determined that none of those components were faulty. Thus, they charged me $99 for no real work performed. Again, I very much appreciate the help your video provided.

My girlfriend's 2010 Ford Fusion AC wasn't working and she's very upset it's real hot in Arkansas right now I took it to a couple places one place charged me 45$ to look at it then quoted over 900 to fix it. It was the blower motor resistor pigtail. Now my girlfriend sees me as a man and respects me all thanks to you.

Great video, thank you! Took it to a mechanic about 7 months ago to get my AC fixed, and it worked for about 4-5 days until it went intermittent again, then totally stopped working after a month. I called back and they never would answer. Took it to another shop today (as summer is approaching in South Carolina!) and they told me it would cost around $700 total. They did tell me that the Blower Motor Resister and Connector are melted and that eval only costed me $150. That's fine. So now, I've order a new cabin filter, blower motor resistor, and blower motor connector for $70 total and will just do the repair myself. What should I look up about the pigtail? I found a bunch of videos on replacing the blower motor resistor AND the cabin filter, but I'm not entirely sure the process/what I should look up about the pigtail part and changing that connection. Thank you so much, you've saved your local college student $500 and have been beyond generous with both your information and video.

@8.00 - I see you also have the common "Tire Pressure Sensor Warning" fault going on. Would love it if you could do a diagnostic on that module, with any potential solutions. So a few days ago I noticed my interior fan was on although my car was off. It was on although the control was off. I already knew my resistor was bad because one of the speeds didn't work. So whenever it wouldn't turn off I switched it to that setting and it stayed off. Later that day I tried turning it on and it no longer worked at all. Replaced the resistor and didn't work. Checked fuses and relay. Bcm module? Control module? Need advice because this has me lost.

How do I test a fuse?
@rickstid-bits
@rickstid-bits 2 жыл бұрын
If you have an ohm meter: Remove the fuse and check the resistance across the 2 tabs. Zero ohms = the fuse is good. An open = fuse is bad. If you have a DVM: Leave the fuse installed. Connect the ground lead to chassis ground somewhere. Touch each side of the top of the fuse with the red lead. 12 volts on both sides = fuse is good. 12 volts on one side and 0 volts on the other side = fuse is blown. You will need a very small, pointed tip on the red lead to get down to the metal piece in the top of the fuse.
