Fronius does not honer warranties and their tech support does nothing but deny deny deny for any problems. Do not buy Fronius inverters because if/when it fails they wont help you so a lot of $$ down the drain. Just do a quick google search for Fronius inverter problems and you will easily find reviews about this. Works when it works but if it fails they won't help you. I was interested because I wish to use an EV battery in my Solar installation as done here. I easily found other brand inverters who allow up to 600v battery so it will be easy to find and buy a better inverter then the Fronius Dala's ev repair used here.

The price needs to come down. Needs some open source design, and people will make it cheaper automatically. R&D cost is always high, but if volunteer electronic engineers like me participate in design and testing, then the price will go down!! We just need the circuitry, and 3d print design, and start tinkering in a safe environment. These things are dangerous as we are dealing with Life threatening power, so it is not for everyone to play with. Loved the video, it inspired me to do some tinkering.!

Thanks very much Dala. Here's a few tips for people after doing this myself. 1. Enable USB debugging the first time you do this, so you can see the messages in the Serial Monitor 2. Hook the lilygo up to a 12v power supply - my pc's usb port couldn't deliver enough power and it was resetting with a 'brownout error' 3. I had to set the baud rate on the serial monitor to 115200 (in the video is is 9600) to see output messages 4. Don't use v5.10.0 - it has a bug where it has a divide by zero error, which causes a reboot loop when it's not connected to a battery. Hope this saves people half an hour. This is a damn awesome project.

@@DalasEVRepair thanks. I see you now have the contacters controlled by the microprocessors. Is that necessary? The contactors might go off once or twice a year in this application, rather than twice a day. Is there still the need to protect them from arcing? I have no reference here so genuinely interested in your thoughts. Thanks for pioneering this work. I wonder if inverter manufacturers will start to integrate this as a feature option in future or with firmware upgrades.

Hello Dala, do you know if there will ever come a Hybrid Inverter that also supports bidirectional DC-DC electric car charging? It just seems like a waste to have a seperate DC charger for the car, with almost the same hardware as the inverter. If this comes to market, i will jump on the solar/battery bandwagon

Hello! Huge hat tip to you for doing this! I only just learned yesterday about all the DIY stuff people are doing with leafs, so I am really not clear what the parameters/limitations are of different solutions. So I am wondering, can this work with a custom battery pack made from brand new cells, and which doesn't necessarily conform to the 24/30/40/62kwh capacities? What if that bespoke solution uses LiFePO, which operates at different voltage to the car's native NMC chemistry (no, I'm not thinking of using both chemistries together)? Will the code you provide allow the vehicle to "adapt" to this difference, or is NMC pretty much baked in?

I realise this is an old video, so you may not reply, but thanks for all your work. As I am just at the start of an EV conversion using Resolve-EV with a 24kWh Leaf, do you have any thoughts on using Chinese new alternatives for 62kWh battery packs? Finding Leaf’s is not easy and I’d like longer range, but I lack confidence in sending so much money for something it is hard to know much detail about.
@DalasEVRepair
@DalasEVRepair 29 күн бұрын
If you use chinese cells, might be best to skip the Resolve EV and get another BMS for the cells. It is not easy to get the chinese cells to have correct control with the LEAF BMS. Look into the zombieverter project?

@@DalasEVRepair thanks for the response! I’m starting simple to make sure I succeed! Resolve-EV seemed ideal for me for that reason, but inevitably there are compromises. Maybe project 2 will be a bit more in depth and offer more flexibility. As I continued to bounce around the internet, I saw a recent post from Muxsan, suggesting they are imminently offering new batteries for Leafs, so will see where that goes. BTW- You are partly responsible for the growing number of vehicles on our driveway! Started with old VW T2. Then bought v low mileage 2014 Leaf for cheap, just to learn and feel what they’re like, and to see where it might lead me. Then bought a very broken VW T2 and more broken 2015 Leaf to practice merging them together. If it all works out I then migrate the electrification over to my current VW T2. The wife is very tolerating…!
