That’s the reputation of Italian food in the US: carb heavy (pizza and pasta) and lots of cheese.

Another thing to add is the way food is cooked: 1) 生 （raw，uncooked) 2) 炸 (usually deep fried) 3) 炒（stir fry) 4) 蒸（steam) 5) 炖 or 熬 (brew, usually soup base or desserts) 6) 烤 (roast, BBQ) 7) 烘 (bake), 8) 煮 (cooking) 9) 掩 (marinate, preserved foods) are the common ways. Another to mention is the final outcome of food can be over cooked ( 太熟) or not well cooked ( 不太熟 ). Other things like condiments ( 调味 ). Idiom to describe: 色香味俱全 (color, scent and flavour are present - delicious, impeccable)
