Do a vid on all the common 7-11 interaction language, like "Would you like this food heated?", "Do you have membership?", "Do you want a receipt?" or how to ask about receiving a package, ordering a taxi, using the copier, etc., or "is this on special/what's the deal on this?" It's taken me so long to learn all that coz the clerks always talk quickly but not clearly.

It's honestly shocking that a channel so great could have such a low amount of views on videos like these. Because of Mandarin Blueprint I started learning Mandarin again, and put more focus on tones (an aspect I took for granted the first time I tried Mandarin). Honestly, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to releasing videos such as these ones. I note down every word I find useful in any of your videos. You're an amazing channel for Chinese, and I always recommend you to all my friends when it comes to learning Mandarin. Keep doing what you do, and thanks again. The content is always high quality, informative, and very entertaining.

It one sense it is shocking and in another sense it is not. It is shocking because the material is extremely high quality and useful. It is not shocking in the sense that many of the highly-trafficked Mandarin videos on YT are presented by attractive women, and those draw a great many slow-witted guys who watch them just to ogle and to say "你很漂亮,老师.“ in the comments (except that they usually just type the pinyin and sometimes incorrectly use 是 instead of 很). Sad, but that is the nature of social media.

The tone of 撒 here should be sǎ, the third tone. When you say this word as a verb to spread something, it is sǎ. It’s only pronounced with the first tone sā when you wanna say 撒谎(to tell a lie) or 撒开(to let it go) or in the phrase 撒哈拉沙漠(The Sahara Desert). But overall, your video is very good! The rest of the content is accurate and authentic. Please keep it up! *I’m a native Mandarin speaker.

the most commonly used word is definitely wocao, which directly translates to I fuck, just kinda like fuck. It's pretty commonly used in many situations, mostly used in the younger generation. By the way, your vid has been posted on Bilibili and gets 150k views now and I don't know if you authorized the uploader or not.

Cattle are endowed with many cultural images in Chinese culture which are determined by their character and characteristics. For example, in Cantonese, when a person is described 牛精, it means that everyone is stubborn

Many of these terms are super modern. The only ones you mentioned that do not strike me as exceedingly modern are 靠谱, 拍马屁,找茬, and 兜圈子. I do think 秀恩爱 and 牛 are incredibly common as well, but they also strike me as very modern. The others I don't think I've ever heard since I left China in the 90s. I did grow up around a lot of common regional words though. It was really weird to discover that southerners don't seem to have a word for 马路牙子 and don't seem to use the word 勺子 or, on that topic, the verb kuǎi (not sure how it's written in Chinese). Other common slang from my region are 埋汰 for dirty, 得瑟 for showing off, 磕碜 for ugly, among others. It's also common to pronounce 饿 as "nè" and 扔 as "lēng."
@MandarinBlueprint
@MandarinBlueprint 6 ай бұрын
Yes, Chinese has evolved over time (as all languages do), and at an incredible speed since the advent of the Internet. Some of these are just attributed to local slangs spreading to the rest of China e.g. 得瑟 and 坑爹 (I can tell that you're from 东北 since you knew these in the 90s). Some are spread from the south e.g. 炒鱿鱼 or 拍拖 from the HK/Guangdong region. These little things make learning Chinese a lot more interesting!

I’m native Chinese. Today we speak very differently from the last century but we still use the words mentioned in the vid though some are kind of outdated and more commonly replaced by other words. As for 马路牙子 and 勺子 (or 调羹 used by southerners), they are examples of differences across regions. But still, most people can understand commonly used words from other parts of China thanks to internet and such.

牛逼 niubi is a great example how language changes with times, the original word has nothing to do with vagina. In ancient time people use to blow up sheep's skin to make raft so it can flow in the water, But if a guy say he can blow up cow's skin, He's lying, because cow are much bigger then sheep, one man can not blow up a whole cow skin in one go, so the word 吹牛皮chui niu pi(blow cow skin) is born, means somebody is lying, or somebody is exaggerate. Then the word became voguer 吹牛逼chui niu bi(blow cow's vagina) because bi is very similar to pi. And then because if somebody is 吹牛逼 He's exaggerate, he claim he can do something incredible, so 牛逼niu bi(cow's vagina) became a separate word means somebody is doing something incredible, or awesome. And to avoid using vague word, just like in this video, people then shorten this word to just 牛niu(cow).

I would watch shorts about the news and the important words that come with it. Like today there is a volcanic eruption in Iceland. Why not tell us what the Mandarin words for eruption, Iceland, Vulcanic Ash, earthquake, etc are. Or words about Gaza and Ukraine. Like War, shelter, bombs, refugees, etc. So it's easier to watch Chinese news to learn Chinese.
