Something’s gone wrong. I’m not screaming. Instead, when I “HU!” And then push, I actually sound like I’m trying to pass an incredibly large BM

In fact, oli's technique was over the top distortion to the point where he bombed his voice. His distortion did not come from false cords or grit, it came partly from arytenoids, which is safe to an extent. He overused it and his arytenoids became swelled and for a long time (Sempinternal-TTS) he sung most of the parts live like in the video cleanly. It is an extremely difficult technique which should be attempted last, after a very good base. It is basically using the distortion you get when you hand in the brink of your voice break (where it flips to head voice, usually around F4 for most guys) and he adds false cord distortion over that (the distortion chester uses when he sings). That creates a really strong sound. It is 3 techniques combined. Singing, distortion at the break, and false cord distortion (very light, less is more). The sounds should be practised and gotten really used to seperately before combining

Then there's singers who have never taken a lesson in their life and they're good when they're like 6 years old. I wouldn't be discouraged by the "5 year" number unless you know you need a lot of work. Maybe for some of you that's encouraging lol

It doesn't take 5 years. That's like saying you need to go to the gym for 5 years to get a 6 pack. 1 year of consistent practice is enough.

Yeah I think he's trying to be safe regarding the average person. Some people have no natural talent and it takes them forever to learn something (for certain things. Not everything). If he says you'll be good in 6 months, they'll think he's full of crap

I used to be able to do this just fine, but now I do it and I feel that burning or scratchy feeling in my throat? I had a sore throat the week before but it’s been a full week of rest? What happened?
