The best way to get a dark black stain in my opinion is black India ink. Works great and you can still see the grain. Nice project!

Glowforge is one of the most overpriced lasers on the market. Not worth the money. The Xtool S1 is a much better fully enclosed laser. The Xtool also has the option of a 1064nm IR laser module for true metal engraving.

I’ve had a glowforge for a while and been using mostly proofgrade material. Does your course covers settings for other materials? I would like to venture out of using only Proofgrade.
@JohnKuiphoff
@JohnKuiphoff 4 ай бұрын
Yes, we work with a lot of non-proofgrade materials (and where to purchase them). We are planning a ton of live weekend workshops to dive deeper in the techniques/materials found in this video. I'm also always happy to do a 1:1 Zoom session if that's helpful. Also, here is my own list of non-proofgrade settings that I've created: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NAokOhtmSgbHMK4tKR9iXOBC7eTOmXQgVgS49QMq0SI/edit

I watched because I’m going to buy a laser, so thank you. Great video. Can I ask about the coloured stripes in your wood plz? I assume you used wood dye on thin strips?
@JohnKuiphoff
@JohnKuiphoff 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! If you need any guidance on lasers, let me know. I now own 7 of them. Ha! The colored stripes were purchased from roarocket (a skateboard company). Marwood is another place you can get them. These strips are dyed all of the way through. It’s difficult to dye it yourself as the dye will likely not penetrate the whole strip (I’ve tried a few different methods with much success). I’m going to release a video about making laserable plywood that takes all of this to next level in about two weeks. Thanks again!

Thank you John, did you use your GF to cut the Corian or just engrave it?
@JohnKuiphoff
@JohnKuiphoff 10 ай бұрын
I engraved the Corian with my Glowforge. However, it was cut using my CNC machine. You might be able to cut it with a laser, but it would probably take a few passes.

I am trying to send data from a particle boron 404x and when I make the webhook for Firebase, I get an error status 401. I have to have an authentication process for my database. This includes two different users. Do I need to add another type of authentication under the database secret in the webhook?

would applying a finish over the assembled parts affect the adhesion. Clear coats, hard-wax oils, polyurethane's etc. Have you tried and tested any of these with wood. Thanks and very useful and understanding video.

Anyone know a good double sided tape like this that is a bit less permanent for laser cutting? I want to keep using a base but change out the names pretty often. Doesn't need to survive a concrete brick lol, but would need to hold its own weight well and not be a nightmare to peel off. I am just starting my search so I might find something myself but thought I would throw out the question since this was a very helpful video.
@jabanan

I just wanted to point out that you used the veneer tape incorrectly or more so not the way it is intended. The tape is for taping the pieces together when your putting them together, then you can apply glue onto that tape and glue it to the mdf. The holes are there so that the glue can stick to the veneer and not the tape. Because with normal tape you have it on the side that isn't glued, but with this veneer tape you can glue it and not remove it.

What are you doing messing around with an Aura?!?! 🤪
@JohnKuiphoff
@JohnKuiphoff Жыл бұрын
Ha! I’m using the Aura tonight to cut out paper templates for this hockey mask thing. The Aura is much different than my 100 watt Thunder Nova for sure. The Thunder is a powerhouse. It’s my industrial business machine. The Aura is little slower and has a bit less power :) But, the Aura is a fun machine to use and good for beginners and light/quick cuts. I use them for totally different things. Yesterday, my mom told me that she was thinking of getting one and was surprised to learn I already had one.

Love your videos! You're a great teacher! Considering the course, specifically to learn how to create my own files, start to finish, in AI. Would you say that your course would cover that completely? Also, would you mind sharing a link or description of the cutting tool you used to cut your paper? It was metal and had a point at each end. Thanks for the videos. Definitely interested in the course!

Thanks so much! Yes, it really is a dream workspace and I'm very picky about what tools I bring in (although a ton of tools are crammed into the makeshift closet I made behind that plank wall). I'm renting the space in a big building with four other makers. They're all really great to have around. You can see Ed, the landlord, poking his head in to chat about midway through the video. ha!
