Wow I used to live on Doddington Road just around the corner If I’m right on thinking were this is. It’s were I learnt to fish, and found my love of fishing. I now do it for fun, and for a living .. miss this place so much.

Rob fished opposite the cemetery in Benwick, which yes, is just around the corner from Doddington Road. You say you work in fishing? What is it you do?

What a GREAT tip. I have a pet hate of zips going round corners, all ways stick and not run well. Just sprayed WD40 on all my fishing luggage, rod bag, holdall etc and what a transformation, all smooth running even round corners. Nice one Dan

I would like to leave a comment on this. Being in the building game since i was 16 we used the secret its called silicone lubricant used by plumbers,carpenters to slide plastic pipes together,and in carpentry to eliminate squeaks and sliding properties in bespoke works,its waterproof has no odour,you will never again require oil and a bottle will last a lifetime. If you have fibre rear drag washers sandwich them with this silicone for free running. Highly recomend. Available from plumbers merchants, i got mine from wickes. Just a few drops on the washers mind! For a smooth drag,bearings etc etc. 👍

I don’t know why you use things with zips for mixing g baits, as you have discovered, they are not designed for that. You should use a plastic bowl or bucket for mixing. Keep the zip up cases for storing tackle items or dry pellets even. 👍

You know it's true what your saying about the roach because when I fished in the winter at my venue all I was catching was small roach of generally all the same size 4-6cms . Even the perch were not around as much . I must admit it got boring after about 2 hours .

That is a really good idea . this is the reason why I've never really liked float fishing . My eyes are not great anymore so I have had to use large floats to be able to see them and as you said you need bulk of weights for setting the float.

morning to you . Well I've learnt something again what I didn't know . Generally I'm a feeder fisherman and I only use cage or window feeders. To be honest I use Kamasan hooks and the smallest I use is a size 14 or bigger. Some people would laugh at that but I find I catch small fish with that not just skimmers and bream . I live in the west of Ireland and the Irish Fisheries Board here don't really care about coarse angling here . We have great venues here but you need strong rigs because of all the rocks and snags . The other thing is I like eyed hooks rather than spayed ends. Here from time to time you can be fishing for bream and hybrids and as you reel in a descent fish a pike will come up and attack it , it's happened many a time to me . great vid keep it up Dan .

any tips for keeping your luggage dry while fishing
@danwebbfishing456
@danwebbfishing456 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried all sorts of things, but there isn’t an easy solution. What I try to do is keep things that need to be kept dry together and try to put them under other luggage etc, then keep stuff that can get wet together and let it get wet. They can then be dried out when I get home. Setting up an umbrella behind where you are fishing just for keeping essentials under can work. Sometimes I’ve done that to keep spare bait, rigs and tackle dry whilst I’ve sat out in the rain myself.

take it home leave it in the shed to dry out and attract the mice and rats :) also wouldn't cooking oil be better on zips rather than wd40 ? or could that attract mice as well ?

Unscented candle wax best or Vaseline for zips no odour, unlike WD40 creating tainted / smelling bait tubs etc. Also any bait residue left in tubs will encourage rodents in your shed bad move ?
@danwebbfishing456
@danwebbfishing456 2 жыл бұрын
I did think that whilst editing it. My gear lives in a fully sealed garage so rodents are not a problem. They could well be in sheds or other types of garage though.

Great to see another episode from you after the other great episodes. At least the weather is better than before!. It would be good to see you preparing for a match, getting your gear ready, bait ready and the process you go through getting ready for a days angling or match. Then how you attack the match, how you know where to fish or what species you're going after. Short but good episode.

Use dry silicon spray on all zips (tubs ,luggage etc ) they will last for ages & run silky smooth, I use wynns dry silicone lube from B&Q @£6 per large spray can … works well on pole elastic & catapult elastic as well …… your welcome 😬

We 40 is more of a water repellent than a lubricant & will attract & hold dirt / debris , dry lube returns the zips to as new condition … you can wash out your tubs as normal , a quick spray round the zip , good as new again .the dry lube does not leave a residue or cause any staining , drys in seconds …. Found it years ago & it has served me brilliantly for many uses ( even clothing zips ) .keep up the good content Dan ✊

Wd40 silicon lubricant is better or you can buy zip lubricant from a scuba diving shop designed for diving suits but it’s quite expensive but very good at stopping zips getting corroded and stuck due to salt water

Hi Dan just discovered this searching for some info on Furzton. Please could you recommend which permanent peg numbers or sections would be a good bet to pleasure fish at the weekend for skimmers/roach on a short 20m line & the chance of bream long 50m+ both on feeder. Many thanks 👍
@danwebbfishing456
@danwebbfishing456 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I’ve only just seen this comment! You’ve probably already fished it now, but the best place for roach has been in the corner between the hotel and sluice. That can be a good place for bream too. Another good area for bream is the point - the bit that sticks right out onto the lake opposite the big island. The fishing at Furzton has been very patchy on the whole last the last 12 months though. Probably due to the water being clearer than in previous years.

Absolutely brilliant guide to hooks. I wish I had this level of information years ago. The type of hooks, bend, how fish take hooks and baits...Al great info to know and learnt do much as a pleasure angler. Keep them coming. Could you do one on lines...diameters, uses, performance when used with types of rods. Braids where to use them, casting distances and species.
