I bought some bulbs and then it’s winter now so I figured I would just leave them in the box until it gets warmer and they grew out of the box within a couple weeks. Just sat there amazed when I saw it lol

We use it with yogurt in the Eastern Mediterranean; first cut it small after rinsing; squeeze the water out add salt and leave it for a few hours then mix it with yogurt and let it all sit for a couple of days at room temp. Add olive oil to the mustard infused yogurt and dip in and the taste is addictive. Add salt if tastes a bit sweet.

Ok I love meadow mushrooms! use caution, I found a huge clutch of meadow mushrooms in Washington state.. I was overwhelmed with joy.. I began picking crazy.. not attentive... 4 grocery bags full.. I set them all out on cardboard to dry them and get a spore print... then I saw in the spore prints ,, I'd also picked destroying angles, deadly hidden in the clutch.. I threw everything out to compost... spore printing saved my life and my wife's..

Is there a way to "replant" these for an even greater harvest? Like could you grind one mushroom into a powder and rebury it and get more mushrooms from that potentially?

We are based in New Zealand. We bought wild bird seed to feed the local birds and they would throw it about the garden. These plants started to grow and we found out they are wild field mustard so a by product of trying to be bird friendly. It also helps to deter them from eating the strawberries.

I wonder if it’s ok to just pick the threads off the flower without picking the flower? They are so pretty growing where I planted them near my front door. This is my first experience growing saffron. I planted the bulbs about a month ago & the first flower opened this am. I’m excited. Thank you for the info.
@HaphazardHomesteadАй бұрын
Oh yeah, you don't have to pick the whole flower. Where I live (in western Oregon), the fall rains will destroy the flower so fast! So I pick them and enjoy their aroma. Congratulations on your first Saffron flowers and harvest! I hope you will enjoy them for many years!

I'm so jealous, Holly!! It has been so dry this summer and fall in West Virginia that mushrooms on the ground are few and far between. I found a bunch of meadow mushrooms last year, and they were so good!! I did find a huge puffball in Beckley recently, however.
@kathyanderson6946Ай бұрын
The simple answer to this is that you can't tell the difference without identifying the individual mushroom you have found. Some poisonous mushrooms can kill so… Source: Wild Food UK Make sure you know what youre picking

@MetalSlugzMasterАй бұрын
They may have been poisonous. There's a meadow mushroom look-alike called agaricus xanthaderm that in my experience, is far more common. Luckily you can tell it apart by cutting into them and seeing if they stain bright yellow immediately. There's some poison amanita look-alikes as well, and they're easily identifiable by white or grey gills. Stay safe.
@AnnsTinyLifeАй бұрын
@@MetalSlugzMaster Yeah, I guess I figured I'd be safe than sorry. Next time I'll bruise the flesh and do a spore print. Thanks for the info!

I love the morels and nettles!! I used to find little black round bugs in the nettles, soaking in salt water or vinegar water and still the bugs, drying them the bugs seemed to hatch, have you had the black nettle bug issue? Wondering how you manage them. It seemed that I had to rush the drying in order to get ahead of the bugs.
@kimkayoda7454Ай бұрын
One day I hope to find those!
@HaphazardHomesteadАй бұрын
Wow!! Thanks for your generous support for my channel, @kimkayoda! That's unexpected but very much appreciated! I hope you find some of these edible Meadow mushrooms, too. There are other Agaricus species that can look similar and not be good to eat, but it's worth learning the difference. They are out there, waiting for you! :D

Every time I look this mushroom up I always come up with the horse mushroom what's the difference
@HaphazardHomesteadАй бұрын
The Horse mushroom (Agaricus arvensis) is a big, solid mushroom. Its stalk is not fragile, and the ring is persistent in hanging down from the stalk like a skirt. And they smell like almonds more than like a store-bought button mushroom. The lower part of the stalk, from the ring on down, is usually rough, too. There are so many Agaricus mushrooms, and some of them are hard to tell apart from other ones, for sure! Hope that helps. Happy mushroom hunting!

Hi, Holly, this is a timely mushroom video! It's a good season to find nature's little flavor bombs, and you're lucky to have them growing in your grass. Lots of excellent description and advice for your viewers. 'Tis the season here in France, too. We just had our association's annual Mushroom Expo in Saumur, with nearly 250 varieties inventoried. (There's an old video on YT - search " expo champignon saumur chapelle st jean.") On the following weekends will be two other village shows nearby, for which my mentor Jean-Luc and I volunteer to help identify the public's finds.

Very cool, @chezmoi, that you have great mushroom events in your area! It's amazing how many different kinds of mushrooms there are! For so many years, the only Agaricus I had in my yard was the A. xanthodemus, part of the "Lose Your Lunch Bunch". But since I started making videos, these A. campestris group mushrooms have been popping up sometimes. I feel lucky! Happy mushroom hunting!

THanks, @forestgyrl! I'm thinking my backyard Meadow mushrooms will turn out to be Agaricus porphyrocephalus pallidus (a subspecies!). But it will take mycology experts to analyze more DNA and make new identification keys before it will be clear to anybody. I'm just happy they grow in my backyard! Happy mushroom hunting!
