Hi, thanks for the video. I am just stitching out a pattern which says it will take 67 mins. Is there a way that the I can get the stitch time to decrease as it sews so that you can see how long is left stitch out? The stitch count decreases but the time is staying the same. Thanks in advance
@SewandCraftStep-by-StepАй бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the great question. If you take a look at the colour sequence of the pattern on the embroidery screen - you will see a min column that tells you how long each individual colour will take to stitch. As each colour finishes embroidering the machine will take that amount of time off of the total embroidery time, and update. So, it will only update the total time as a colour is completed - and not while the colour is busy embroidering. I hope this is helpful.😀 If you would like access to more hints, tips and projects, please feel free to click on this completely safe and secure link: link.tekmatix.com/widget/form/Qv9AkKsvZbkzjxHkVuBv Kind Regards Sherine Haines

What do I do if my bobbin case has that green paint on the screw? I have tried and tried adjusting my top thread tension and the bobbin thread is still coming up on the top of the fabric. I am sewing on a lightweight knit and have done all kinds of adjustments. The only thing I can think of is adjusting the bobbin tension but I can't. Do I need to order a different kind of bobbin case? Or is there something else I should try? I have a Brother SE 400.
@SewandCraftStep-by-StepАй бұрын
Good morning, Thanks for the excellent question. The bobbin case that has the green screw is known as the standard bobbin case. This means that the tension screw has been pre-set at the factory for 60 weight thread - which is the Brother bobbin fill thread that is included in the box when you get the machine. (The paint is only there for identification purposes - so you know that it is set for 60 weight thread.) So this is why, when you use other thread that is of a different brand and weight - then you will experience tension problems, and the screw will need to be adjusted. There are 2 solutions for this: 1. Buy another bobbin case, without the green marking, and use that as your "adjustable" bobbin case for different types and weights of thread. Then you can adjust it as you need to. ( this means you can keep the one with the green paint exclusively for the 60 weight bobbinfill thread) 2. OR, you can simply adjust the screw on the bobbin case with the green paint. However, if you choose to do this, I would suggest taking a photograph of the screw position before you adjust it, so that when you want to use the bobbinfill again, you can set it back to where it was. After taking the photograph, you can adjust it for the sewing thread that you plan to use. Generally the thread for sewing would be thicker - so you would adjust the screw in an anti-clockwise direction. (Loosen it) Only adjust by 1/4 of a turn at a time until it is right. I hope this is helpful. On the ce1008 how to stop the needlefrom hitting the plate
@SewandCraftStep-by-StepАй бұрын
Hi Joann, If the needle is hitting the plate - then please check that the needle is the correct size for the fabric you are working on - because if it s the wrong needle or the needle is too small - the needle will flex and will touch the plate. Here is a link to my free sewing machine needles e-book. guides.sewandcraft-courses.com/sewing-machine-needles-free-e-book-9007 If you do have the correct size and type of needle in the machine - and it is still hitting the plate - please take it to your nearest technician - because it might be that a needle broke or bent and it has shifted the needle bar off centre. Only a technician can repair that. I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines

Hi does this machine have adjustable speed ? Thanks
@SewandCraftStep-by-Step2 ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for your good question. Yes it does have adjustable speed. The machine is set to the default speed of maximum (650 stitches per minute) for embroidery with regular embroidery thread. However, if you want to work with speciality threads, like wool embroidery thread or metallic thread, then it is advisable to set the speed to a lower setting - and this can be done on the F540E😀 It can be adjusted from 650 all the way down to 350 stitches per minute - with other settings in between too. I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to join me at Sew and Craft for more hints, tips and projects. Instructions are very detailed. It is obvious that she is a trained teacher. However, I take exception to her premise that you cannot/do not want to layer 2 colors of vinyl directly on top of each other. I realize this was 4 years ago and things have changed, but I don't think they have changed that much. It is quite common practice to layer 2 pieces of vinyl directly on top of each other in designs, sometimes even 3 or 4 colors, as long as you are not layering plain vinyl on top of glitter, foil, printed, or holographic vinyl. Perhaps she has a newer, updated video somewhere that shows layering different colors of vinyl directly on top of each other?
@SewandCraftStep-by-Step3 ай бұрын
Hi, Thank you for the comment. I agree wholeheartedly with you that you can apply layers of plain vinyl on top of one another, but not on top of foils and glitter. (Although you can layer those on top of plain vinyl) If the project that you are creating can handle layers on top of one another, then it is absolutely fine to do it like that. However, the reason that I made this particular video, is that I had many requests about how to create designs that were not thick and bulky on softer garments, and also on items that need to have a softer drape like flags - and that looked more like a smooth printed image rather than a stiff applied one. So, for those who prefer less bulky designs, the techniques I show in this video is an option. But, for stiff items where it does not affect the flow or drape, layering vinyl one on top of the other would be totally fine.😊

@SewandCraftStep-by-Step4 ай бұрын
@@pamclarke6785 Hi Pam, I completely understand. I owned the same machine as you currently have many years ago.😀 They work perfectly if you are working on woven fabric - especially natural woven fabric, like calico, denim, cotton linen etc. So, if that is what you work on mostly, then it is perfect for you. However, if you want to work on the latest stretch and even synthetic blends of fabric, then the more modern machines handle those better. To explain why - the older generation machines had 2 points on their feed teeth. Now 2 points are perfect for natural woven fabrics. However when it comes to the more modern fabric (synthetic and stretch) the 2 points "latch" onto the fabric and then it does not feed through as evenly or smoothly. It almost feels as if the fabric is being held back in a sense. They also do not have auto tension - so tensions must be adjusted to suit individual fabric. With the new generation Brother machine it has 7 points on it's feed teeth - so the finest sheerest and even stretchiest fabric is fed through easily - as is denim and upholstery fabric. It also has auto-tension, so it will adjust tension to suit the fabric - you don't have to do that. Then there is the automatic needle threader, built in automatic cutter, lovely bright LED light (no more globes that blow), one step perfect buttonhole and just so much more. (Too much to mention here - so I have mentioned all of the super important features) I know that some of this might be intimidating - so I supply my Step-by-Step video lessons that are arranged in a logical sequence, so that customers get all of the information to start using their machines with confidence and not by trial and error. I also show all of the features of the machine - so that all features can be used, to make sewing so much more enjoyable! I hope this is helpful. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Have a great day! Kind Regards, Sherine
