Thank you, excellent directions. Once I figured out what a T ratchet was and borrowed the right size from my neighbor. I was good to go. Too bad the nice man at N*p* sold me the wrong size filter. Also thanks for mentioning there are 8 screws to loosen and they don't come all the way out. Once I get the right filter it should be a breeze to replace.

I suggest you add to title 'without removing struts' since factory service manual and tsx forums mostly say you have to remove struts. I actually Googled and searched KZbin ' tsx upper control arms without removing struts' and nothing came up. I then seen a thread on a tsx forum and 1 guy mentioned you didn't have to and had a link to this video. So a title edit would be helpful otherwise most guys will just remove the struts when it's not necessary. Glad I found this video though!

I recently had a oil change done at a super lube location and 4 days later my splash guard was sagging in the middle, after driving on the highway for awhile .I took the car back to the garage and told them and was accused of bottoming out my car . I was told by another garage they should be taking off the splash guard before the oil change and when I said this they looked at me like I was crazy . Not going back there for a oil change but they offered to install a new one free of charge 🙄 but I would have to buy a new splash guard
@hanoihancockАй бұрын
@@dpetit007 This is exactly why I don't let anyone else change my oil. Whether at an oil change place or a dealership, the person doing the oil change is typically an inexperienced underpaid impatient teenager. There's a high likelihood they will lose one of the fasteners and be too lazy or too frustrated to seek it out and reinstall properly. Although this particular splash guard is very straightforward, some splash guards use significantly more and a variety of fasteners. Sometimes one or two missing fasteners is no big deal, but other times a single missing fastener can lead to other underbody damage and unnecessary wear and tear.

But what is the size of the oil pan plug???
@hanoihancock2 ай бұрын
My oil pan drain bolt has a 19mm hex head. I believe that's pretty common for Golfs and Rabbits of this generation, but...I can't promise yours will be the same. For example, a Google search for “2008 VW Golf Oil Pan Drain Bolt Size" returns a few hits with 14mm hex head heads and even a hit for an Allen head drain bolt.

The manual specifically tells you to test intake seals by use of propane released around the seal area between the cylinder heads, and if the idle raises during the test you have and intake seal leak, and need to reposition the rubber gasket. Therefore my best guess is the mechanic was fresh out of propane, and used some other form of combustible substance like carb cleaner or brake cleaner... meaning, put it out and let's roll.
@hanoihancock4 ай бұрын
I think the person filling the tank overfilled it. Gas spilled over the tank and down on the motor cooling fins. Either the heat or an errant spark from the spark plug wires ignited the spillage.
@Ed-ty1kr4 ай бұрын
@@hanoihancock That sounds more plausible, we'll go with that one. Race gas, good for preventing preignition, but still highly flammable. Hey man! I was trying to sound like I knew some cool trick in youtube comments, you didnt have to come in using reason and common sense like that... LOL

Why is there a flat O-ring, and a standard O-ring about the same diameter. My filter housing is leaking after my last oil change and I only used the flat O-ring.
@hanoihancock4 ай бұрын
I think some paper filters come with both kinds of O rings so the filter can be used with different cars that use different O rings. For this car, the flat O ring is the correct O ring. I recommend changing the oil again and inspecting the filter housing closely to make sure the O ring is seated properly and that there is only one O ring in there. It's common for an old O ring to be accidentally left in the housing while installing a second/new O ring. That'd cause leaking. Maybe clean out the slot the O ring sits in with a Q tip to be sure there's not a pebble or something stuck in there. Good luck!
@davidlittle6114 ай бұрын
@@hanoihancock I’ve reinstalled this thing 3 times, and I’m starting to think it’s an oil cooler gasket above the filter housing
@hanoihancock4 ай бұрын
@@davidlittle611 That'd be unfortunate:(. It's already unfortunate that you've had to spend 15 quarts of oil and are still leaking:(. I guess you've gotta get some nice bright lights and some rags and some good music to listen to. Lay on your back. Clean the crap out the oil filter area. Wait and watch for the origin of the leak. Pray that it's a faulty or damaged filter housing.
