I've never had much luck with Autodoc parts, there used to be cheap parts, mid tier parts and expensive parts but since covid especially the mid tier parts just appear to be cheap parts at a higher price.

Idk if it's the same with these older Citroens, but my Peugeot from 2002 has a little plaque with the engine number on the engine block. It's not very visible and mine was very rusted after 20+ years on the road but some light touch up with sandpaper (be careful, the engraving isn't very deep) and wetting it made the the number readable enough. When you know the engine number, you can look up exactly which oem number your car needs either directly on Docbackup (you can find dvd images of it online) or on an online copy like ssg asia since some engines have different kits depending on the engine number ...

You’re a bit late for an autodoc review. I’ve been using them for 4 years. They run circles around the likes of euro car parts. Sure you cant just drop off wrong parts but that’s why they provide OEM part numbers on most parts. I’ve never been sent a wrong item. It’s the Germans you’re dealing with not some snotty nose teen in ECP.
@ZakKol697 күн бұрын
Fairly new to Autodoc, it’s bloody good to be fair, just got to be careful when you own a rare French classic car, as an OEM part number would have meant nout on a car that ran both tensioner designs simultaneously 👍

I always liked the BX. I drove my bosses company car a few times back in the 80's. 1.9 diesel estate I think it was. They were quite radical at the time. Nearly bought a BX myself, as my first car but got a Capri instead. Went down a completely different rabbit hole! 🤣 The BX GTI 4X4's were fantastic but I couldn't afford something like that back then.
@JayMaverick7 күн бұрын
The problem with Autodoc is finding the one quality brand from a pile of 900 Chinese garbage brands. Their marketing is absolutely cancerous. The return policy is useless - either they take forever (3+ months) or simply never honor it. Is that worth saving a few bucks on your spares? I suppose so, at least in the short term. I rather find other sources.

If you're having problems with over heating start with a new cap on the expansion tank. When they go the system can't hold pressure as well or at all and air gets dragged into the cooling system as the water starts to evaporate.
@WindyJAMiller8 күн бұрын
Also flush the cooling system with a dish washer tablet, minus the rinse aid, this can help clean gunk out of the system and maximize the effectiveness of the cooling system. These engines run hot at the best of times.
@ZakKol697 күн бұрын
Not experiencing any overheating issues as of yet. Car seems to run ok and the cooling fans kick in nicely no coolant gauge tho!

I use Autodoc for my 1989 Mercedes R129 300 -24 SL, a great way to look for spares. I needed a new radiator, the nearest was pelican parts san Francisco at £500, to get it re-cored was the same price, I waited and eventually Autodoc had one in stock at £250. Give them your vin and ask your question. I find them very helpful ( most times )
@ZakKol698 күн бұрын
Yeah I enjoy using it most the time! Just quite difficult with the quirky French stuff as parts places don’t know what is fitted as there is always a few options! The only people that know are the forum gurus

@ZakKol698 күн бұрын

Luckily I'm now retired so I tend to strip the car and my van (Volvo & Merc sprinter T1N) to see what the parts look like first especially with the Mercedes most of the parts have Mercedes part numbers on them, I remember having an old Peugeot 405 and sometimes they can have 3 different types of parts within a couple of years of manufacture , I was told that they did that because they often change part suppliers due to cost.
@ZakKol698 күн бұрын
Yeah from my research in the club I found that true. Painful to buy parts for when they swap them so much! Top cover off and I couldn’t see the tensioner design so I had to make an educated guess! Got caught out this time. Is what it is I suppose.

Look how much room you have to play with there. I did a cambelt and water pump on my old Pug 205 diesel a few years back and space was really tight. Always change the water pump and all tensioners / idlers, whether leaking or not as a future seizure will destroy a good belt. Locking timing in is super easy with a couple of bolts and a drill bit goes through above the starter for the flywheel.

Autodoc are a scummy company. They mislead customers with a UK website but they are in Germany and require items to be sent back to Germany, I bought an alternator from them for my V6 Mondeo and it died in 5 months, the grief I had from them trying to get it replaced under warranty was off the scale, they did everything they could to try and wriggle out of it and even tried to demand a scan of my V5 claiming I had bought the wrong unit and that is why it had died! I will never buy from Autodoc ever again, even if they were half the price of everyone else.
@ZakKol698 күн бұрын
Yeah they are great prices. I’m in the trade and they’re still cheaper than my trade rate at the local motor factors. If I know 100% the part will fit I think I’ll still use them again as they do have some good brands on there. Just a shame I didn’t know about the 2 kits. Bloody classic cars. Shane about your alternator tho, annoying it’s in Germany 😅
