Finally making progress. Had 3 hours or so spare. Managed to get the chains on and stick all the covers in etc. Didn’t feel the motivation for the first hour or so. Then got into the groove. Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm at the start #polo #volkswagen #volkswagenpolo #vw

which are a sign to tune up the engine after changing the chain and removing the cylinder head

When you found that the timing was out (and by quite a bit), why did you not do a cylinder leakdown test ? As this engine is an interference unit the valves are often damaged if the timing chain jumps, & this test saves a load of time if they are. Also be aware that the cam lobes can move on the camshaft if the valves hit the pistons hard meaning new cam/cams. Good Luck with the channel !

No access to a leak down tester or a borescope at the time I did this, things are different now tho!

can i ask where did you get the repair manual pages for that engine, i have the same engine but can't find the cause of an oil leak.
