I believe on how you believe in God, all of your questions are the same. You must listen to the whole words and understand why he uses different words. The savior is one and his words are the same. ❤

Hi John, I have began your BoM master class. When Martin Harris lost the 116 pages you mentioned that God told Joseph he is still chosen and to move forward with the work. Did Joseph recieve that revelation at that time? D&C was referenced so was he receiving D&C throughout his life and then compiled it all later? I thought the D&C was all done shortly before his death. Thank you for your response

Thanks so much for reaching out...the revelations were received throughout Joseph's lifetime, you can read the historical background for the sections under each heading. Sections 3 and 10 were given around the time of the lost 116 pages.

I like that you speak very clearly.. I like that you insert pictures bringing the scriptures to life. I especially like when you use examples from your life, it helps me relate better to the scriptures. I would rather kiss the frog that speak in front of all those people, and I'm not fond of frogs! I am a member of the church of Jesus christ of latter day saints. Thank you! Shawna

Another wonderful lesson! Thank you! My husband and I have been married for 62 wonderful years. He is not a member of our church. I grew up in Germany, and there were no young men in our congregations at that time. I fell in love with him, and have tried to be a good example to him and our children. Marriage is hard enough, what with all the differences that arise that we never saw coming, without starting it off marrying someone with different standards and values than our own, no matter if they are religious standards or some other kind. I had a list of five things that I absolutely refused to marry someone with, and three of them had nothing to do with religion but would have caused deep, deep conflict if I had relented. I didn't see it as judging at all.

Thank you for speaking about the unity between the Father and the Son.💝 The Lord taught me many beautiful lessons during the time my mom had Alzheimer's. She was living in a memory care facility 20 minutes from my house. I had the opportunity to visit her every other day for 6 years. My sister who had guardianship lived 5 hrs away. After every visit I would report to her in a text about how Our mother was doing... Our goal was that She felt Safe, Loved, and Not forgotten. We both had a similar deep devotion and love for our mother. My sister was able to come to visit only every now and then, yet she was involved in every aspect. My mother loved receiving cards and would carry them around and read them over and over again. One day as I was signing my name to a card, the thought came to me that I should sign my sister's name too and Mom would feel Double the Love 💞 I began to speak her name along with mine. After all, we were One in Purpose and Love! We both felt the same way. In fact, My sister and I are so similar We often joke that we are twins, She was just born first 3 years earlier. 😂 As i spoke her name with mine and mine with hers, a sweet understanding of the Unity between the Father and the Son began to unfold. Many scriptures came to mind , John 14: 9 He who has seen me, has seen the Father. I did not feel alone, while serving my mom💝. I am grateful for the little insights my Sister and I received during that time ❤ .

I live in Arizona and in the summertime when it's up to 115 degrees or hotter it is so unbelievably uncomfortable for me to wear my garments. Do I just suffer through life. Is that really what heavenly father wants for us?

Hi! I live in Arizona as well. It definitely gets really hot in the summer and it can be hard. I've had the same question as you and decided to take my question to the Lord. When doing so, I felt a strong impression come to my mind that said, "This is one of the sacrifices that I'm asking you to make to become more Holy." This thought then brought me to the temple and the covenant that I've made to sacrifice whatever God asks of me to become Holy. I now think of this on those extremely hot days and focus on the gift the garment is in my life as I'm taking upon myself Jesus Christ. They don't feel so hot anymore. I would encourage you to take it to the Lord and see what He tells you. Cool weather will be here soon! We can do this! 💕

@@kday6809 thank you for your reply. I have spoken to my Bishop and he said that when I’m exercising that it’s up to me whether I wear them or not and I guess that’s because they get so sweaty and it made me think well they get so sweaty out in the summer sun and heat, so I definitely will take it to the Lord. Thank you for your suggestion.

115 degrees is hot and miserable no matter what you do. There are ways to work around the uncomfortableness. I am very glad we live in a modern society with air conditioning. My husband used to laugh at family in Northern Utah. "In Arizona we know how to stay in the shade and drink plenty of water, cover items in our cars, and stay inside in air conditioning". "Why is it every time we are with your family, we are always standing around in a parking lot in the hot sun, trying to decide what to do next". In other words, stay inside, plan ahead. With God's blessings, you've got this. Use ice packs. We are totally blessed.

The quotes from Elder Oaks sum it up for me and that has always been my perspective. The Savior's counsel regarding the wearing of the sacred temple garments is on the Church website and in Gospel Library in General Handbook section 38. That counsel is very clear, I believe. I ask in prayer as the Lord's child for inspiration and find it in the words of modern and ancient prophets and apostles. As for the case studies here, I like what one commenter added. We simply don't know all of the reasons behind someone's actions at all times.

John, I love your classes. And this one was exceptional! It really got me to thinking. I know that I'm not perfect, nor do I always make the perfect choices. Let me share a few choices and my reasoning for each of those actions or reactions. At 17 and fresh out of HS, I met my future husband. He was Catholic and I attended the Friend's church pretty regularly. Neither of us had ever heard of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. But when I met Jim, after we began talking of marriage, I learned that he went out on weekends with his buddies to the bars. I told him in front of one of his friends.. you have to decide, me or the drink, you can't have both! Here is my reasoning...I grew up in an alcoholic home, parents and most of my siblings had horrible lives because of alcohol! At the age of 12, standing by myself, I told Heavenly Father that I wanted nothing to do with Alcohol in my family and I meant it! Next, 18 years later, when I learned about the Church through a very personal and unique way, when Jim was asked to sign for me to be baptized, he said "no"! When I asked him why, he said, "Because 6 months after a friend's wife joined, they got a divorce!" My reply is that if you keep me from joining this Church, there will be a divorce. Was I a bully? Religion had never meant anything to Jim. Once I joined, he started coming with me and loved what he saw and learned. And one more to share... our oldest and youngest daughters joined the Church with in a few months. Our oldest daughter's husband was working and going to school. After there 1st child was born, they decided to wait until after he finished school before they continue with their family. Two nights before she was going to the doctor, I learned in my institute class that President Kimball cautioned young adults "not to put off having a family" until after through college! That next day, as I was talking to my daughter, she told me what they had decided, and she had an appointment the next day. The Spirit whispered to me to share with her what I had learned the night before. I told her it isn't my decision, but I was inspired to share what I had learned. She and Walt would have to make that decision together. She was crying when she hung up the phone. But the next day she was happy because they prayed and got an answer. I was told by another sister that I was a meddling mother. I didn't care what she thought, I had to follow the Spirits prompting! The results... Jim gave up drinking. He never joined the Church, but supported the girls, the Church, our daughter that never joined, and me! A few months after his death, I was privileged to see him happier than I had ever seen him! And he was walking towards me with the biggest, brightest smile and arms wide open! I had never seen my husband stand or walk in our 43 years of marriage until that glorious vision! Something I treasure. Our daughter was expecting their 3rd child when Walt graduated and every promise President Kimball made was fulfilled! Each of those decisions I made as I did, because I had made a promise to Jesus to "follow him" at a very young age and He is my best Friend. He will never, no never no never forsake me!

I believe there are non-doctrinal things in scripture that are meant to test our "faith". If everything in scripture was "provable" what would be the value of faith. So as for the word "cement" being in the Book of Mormon, we have to remember Joseph wasn't translating word-for-word, but translating as the spirit directed. The actual word on the brass plates could have been ; Mud or Adobe, or Rock, or some word not recognized by 19th century English. But Cement is what the spirit inspired Joseph to use. Therefore to end this;nut is not the words, or meaning or use of words that tells me the Book of Mormon is true, it is The Spirit. However I love these nuggets from studying it.

Thank you for your teaching and testimony on these essential doctrines and topics. I believe it can be helpful to distinguish between what constitutes a moral absolute, a moral principle, a moral value, and, consequently, the moral imperative or required conduct. Regarding the temple garment, it is not an absolute requirement that it be worn at all times, day and night, nor is it an absolute that it must be worn in situations where reasonable circumstances call for its removal. However, Latter-day Saints may differ in their views on what qualifies as 'reasonable.' I have observed that even a reasonable removal can be judged as “removing one’s covenant connection with Jesus Christ.” A similar challenge arises with keeping the Sabbath day holy. My intent is for us, as Latter-day Saints, to recognize that there is inherent variability within these laws. Both the law of the temple garment and Sabbath observance may not be as absolute as some might think, even when applied righteously.
