@PaulVicaryfishing11 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes they are quite cute really and I think the river system can cope with mink, locally they tend to eat more crayfish than fish, seen by inspecting their scats ( poo ) this one live round there, thriving off scraps a takeaway restaurant was throwing down the bankside. Did bugger up the swim a bit though. Tight lines.

A really beautiful urban river. You were obviously fishing too light to have been broken off twice leaving fish with hooks and line attached to them. One fish I caught a barbel had four hooks in it. There was a very obvious sign saying no fishing you really shouldn't have been there, respect the rules.
@PaulVicaryfishing24 күн бұрын
That sign has been up for for a very long time ago when there was a trout fishery. It's fine to fish now

Hi Paul. I have 4 "Grice & Youngs" and a "Speedia" Centrepin all from 50's/60's, also, 3 "Leeds" style Centrepins all made by the Late Ken Smith (One time England Angling team Manager and toolmaker at Skelton Grange Power Station, probably on Nights with no Bosses watching ?) Where My Late Dad also worked.

Thanks for watching. Lucky man to have reels made by a legend. Tight lines.
@tonycamplin860726 күн бұрын
I was brought up fishing with that sort of tackle, I've still got all my gear, rods, reels etc that I bought in the 1950s and still use it. Genuine line would have been cotton or if you were posh silk. It all had to be dried out after use. Surely all centre pins are 1to1 gearing. That reel was the real peak of perfection, don't think that all those floats were that old. That came and greenheart rod was lovely.
@THEINSANESOCIETY26 күн бұрын
There are a few exceptions to the 1:1 rule, but then they may not be considered true center pins? I've used the TJ Harrington Regina for trotting. It is a sort of hybrid centre-pin/multiplier. I chose the S.E. Cooke for Paul to use because it really is way out of his comfort zone. I think the floats (and the Effgeeco tackle box) originate from the early 1970's. The line used was actually a modern line that looks much like silk, hence Paul believing it to be very old.

A great days fishing. I used to fish the kent Derwent a lot 70 + years ago, can't remember exactly where but it was much further upstream where its much narrower. I think that the main reason why you lost so many fish was the tiny hook that you were using. For those dace a 12 is quite small enough and for the chub and perch a 6 or 4. I ve never found fish to be put off by hook size, its how you present the bait that matters. All my 1lb plus dace have been caught ledgering by the way.
@PaulVicaryfishing23 күн бұрын
Hi Tony. We have come a very long way haven't we? I can't imagine drying you line out, what a fiddle. I do struggle with the happy medium between strength and finesse, I definitely get more bites with small hooks but do lose a few. Tight lines.
