There are many aspects of sound reproduction that can be appreciated, which is why you have different speakers with different designs and sound signature.
@Hendoneabdar2 ай бұрын
The quality of the incoming signal is so important that it can affect how well the sound is reproduced by the same speaker. Good sound reproduction doesn't have to cost a fortune these days as the industry has led us to believe. By the way this was among the geekiest I've heard from anyone, good job putting it all together like that, good job, really agree

Having multiple speakers to play with is definitely enjoyable if you are this way inclined. Never heard the Heresy IV so I cannot comment on these.

Yamaha are too revealing and bright sound amplifiers true to the souns the same as Tannoys . Bad recordings bad sound
@AudioNostalgia7 ай бұрын
Not sure if I'd agree with your statement. If an amplifier is too bright, than it is either a poor design or it was designed purposely to colour the sound in a certain way. To my, job of an amplifier is to amplify the signal - nothing more or nothing less. As a matter of fact, in a properly designed blind test with modern well designed transistor amplifiers, it next to impossible to tell them apart.

@@AudioNostalgia all amplifiers has a voicing otherwise all would sound the same . Yamaha are true to source and you and me know bad recording sound bad harsh compressed and shrill specially with revealing speakers.

Hey! Very different sounding speakers. I personally replaced my Yamaha NS-1000M with Harbeth M30.1 because I like their sound more. I then replaced M30.1 with M40.1 as I liked their sound even more. So although I've not compared the NS1000 with M40.1 side by side, I'm pretty sure I'd be leaning towards the M40.1 in my room. You can read my reviews of all 3 speakers here if you are interested: audionostalgia.co.uk/yamaha-ns-1000-m-review/ audionostalgia.co.uk/harbeth-m30-1-review/ audionostalgia.co.uk/harbeth-m40-1-review/ All the best, Shem

Very nice, I'd love to know more about ideal amplification and cabinet design. Could they do well open baffle? I have a pair rebranded as the Lafayette SK-210 and I'm researching how to best use them, they came to me without cabs. Ot seems they were a custom DIY speaker available perhaps? Lovely setup. Looking forward to your review of it happens. Im curious what genres these excell at.

Harbeth's do colour the music, because they have an enclosure. Magnepan's can't colour. So the last comes closer to life acoustical music. Electric music can never be a reference because you are listening already to sound equipment. Magnepan let you hear everything that happens in the music and they let you hear the character of your equipment and room acoustics. Buy the way you have to treat your left wall in the room. Now there are wrong reflections. I hope you have learned, for free, a lot now. Finally, the 1.6QR is the greatest bargain in high end! And you have the bass you want, because it's only a 2-way.
@AudioNostalgia8 ай бұрын
Ohh Peter, why is it that people with little knowledge are always the first ones to give others advice? I guess you are not familiar with Dunning-Kruger effect. What objective evidence is supporting the statements that you are making - or are you just quoting Magnepan marketing materials? The claims you make, sound like the folklore that you see people repeating in forums rather than objective truths. There is a body of academic research from the last 40 years focused around loudspeakers, acoustics, and psychoacoustics. We do have a decent objective understanding of what loudspeaker parameters are responsible for our perception of realistic sound. Are you familiar with any of the work by Martin Colloms, Alton Everest, Sean Olive, or Floyd Toole? And regarding the comment about the left wall treatment - what made you say that? You are clearly a big fan of Magnepan speakers, so you should be familiar with the radiation pattern of dipole speakers. Magnepas (being dipole speakers) project very little sound to the sides and most of their sound front and back. As such, the side wall treatment is more of a priority for conventional speakers rather than Magnepans.

@@AudioNostalgia Nice try from you searching for arguments. You wanna impress readers with that. Measurements and other scientific talking will convince a lot of people. But let me ask you a few questions. Did you ever see or even hear a musical instrument? And a little more difficult: have you ever heard of the formant? You are wrong about me having any commercial connection with Magnepan. I am a pro Conservatory musician, working for 45 years every day with acoustical instruments. And as a hobby busy with hifi from the beginning. What pro studies did you do? Thanks for your attention.
