I was in a car with some people and saw a billboard that read "there are only 2 genders, male, and female." I made a quick comment "sure, just pretend intersex people don't exist." I was surprised when someone spoke up and said "yeah but they are a really small percentage of people"..... this person was a ginger. I wanted to say back to her "If that sign said only blonds, burnets, and people with black hair exist, would it upset her" But I stopped myself, mainly because I didn't want to be rude and I was stuck in a car with her for a while. I just with other people made that same consideration.

The man from Earth is very slow to understand these people, because he approaches them as males or females and treats them accordingly, which to them seems really odd. They also see him as a pervert, because he seems to be permanently in a state of sexual activity. Read it, it's a great book.
