In understand the height...what the spring loaded thing for and why are some in front and some behind.what do they affect in terms if sound and playability
@FrankOlsonTwins41 минут бұрын
Those are called the "saddles." When they move back and forward they adjust the tuning of the string in relation to the frets. So if too far forward, notes are sharp. Too far back and notes get flat.

Did the same few years back. Nice effect! 👍🏼 For sitar sound I used a crumbled piece of tissue paper under the strings at the end of the neck, touching lightly the strings.😊

Nice work nice looking guitar. Our house is from the 1890’s guess I’ll be tearing down a wall soon looking for real lumber. Problem is I don’t have a fancy wood shop . Will have to find someone willing to help / work with me. Maybe a Stew Mac kit for me 🥹

$1200 for any Epiphone is just plain rip off. Those guitars are made in China, and should sell for around $500 maximum. I paid $1000 for my epiphone firebird and although I wanted one very badly, I still feel like that was too much to put out for an Epiphone Chinese guitar. I have 7 Firefly les Paul type guitars that I paid $400 or less for. I put epiphone pups in ‘em and they’re as good as any other lp copy I’ve ever owned, even my epiphone les Paul standard I had some years back, and I loved that thing. But to say $1200 is a good price for an epiphone is just plain lying.

I like how you joined the body blanks together using the circular saw. So many pretend to use a plane, then switch over to a joiner.
@FrankOlsonTwins3 күн бұрын
Thanks! I'm not proficient enough yet to make a super clean joint on 2" stock with just a hand plane. Plus, I'm proud of my workaround! But I think I'll make a jig for the next one, to save the time of taping and gluing for each pass of the saw.

hi frank, do you have any music online that was recorded with this machine that i can check out? thanks for the upload.
@FrankOlsonTwins3 күн бұрын
Howdy! I don't think I have anything posted from this machine. However, I did master a record to it. You can hear it on bandcamp: nicoleweiss.bandcamp.com/album/move-me-still That's basically a single pass in real time, from digital to tape back to digital. 7.5 ips on old scotch 111 tape. I also used it occasionally for tape delay for vocals, which was pretty cool as an outboard effect. The best way I can think to use it is in real time, recording one or two tracks at once through the tape machine as you record the output on a DAW. Then you can mix the stems. Otherwise mixing is a one shot deal and the wow/flutter becomes a major factor.
@FrankOlsonTwins3 күн бұрын
Also, here's the final "mix" of that little series. The solo is a bit hotter than I remember, and I don't think I used any eq in the DAW. Certainly a rough mix, if there ever was one!

How do you kno it works guyz ?! Its not like you hav to slap a torque wrench on the peg without the shit .
@FrankOlsonTwins3 күн бұрын
That is a good point, but if you think about it, a tuner is kind of like a torque wrench!
@JMTrucking14172 күн бұрын
@ lolol , hence theres no need for one. Im no expert, but i play & i’m just wondering how much resistance or friction is incurred from sliding the string thru hard plastic as slow as we do when restringing or tuning that a lubricant is necessary or of merit ? Mayb i’ve been lucky for 30+ yrs but i’ve nvr had a string bind up on me or seem any harder moving thru the groove than any other string . I’m really not trying to minimize or degrade this action i just like a little more than someones word for things. In the long run if you guyz think or know it works & it helps you play better or feel better about playing then i’m 1000% behind it & you cuz i’m all about playing & learning. I thnkyu in advance for any additional info you mite hav on this. 👍✌️
@FrankOlsonTwins2 күн бұрын
@@JMTrucking1417 In my experience, some guitars are more prone to string binding than others. Old archtops, some acoustics, and many gibsons suffer from "sticky nut" syndrome. I've found most fender style headstocks are immune to this issue, unless you go up a string size without cutting new nut slots. I traded up string sizes on a bunch of guitars at once(from 10's to 11's) and the tuning issues became annoying. I changed back after about a year. Another little thing that happens is a plastic nut can mold its shape to the string windings, which you may have noticed when changing strings. If I had to pick just one string to lubricate, I'd go for the B on a fender or a G or D on a Gibson!
@JMTrucking14172 күн бұрын
@ i have noticed corners being ground dwn due to L or R directions out of the top. My strat at home has no tuning problems. My jackson v in the truck is a whole different matter. I’m going to try this nxt time i change out & see if i notice any xtra string life or added playing ability !! Lol The good thing about this tip is i could probably lay my hands on 30 pencils in 5 mins so i know you guyz aren’t trying to sell something which is refreshing indeed . Thnx 👍✌️

You could plug speakers into the little headphone port. However, plugging the little connector into a speaker probably won't do what you want.

Frank hi, what is this oil that you add between countries?
@FrankOlsonTwins4 күн бұрын
It's called "Super Lube 92003" It's a "food safe" grease that has PTFE(Teflon) in it. It's sold at hardware stores and automotive stores. There are similar products sold in guitar shops, but they are much more expensive.

Or you could upgrade to a bone nut instead of plastic and improve the sound as well as not need the graphite.

Not necessary. See those 2 screws? Just run em on in. That's why those screws exist in the first place.
@FrankOlsonTwins4 күн бұрын
On a vintage 6 screw bridge, I do that as well. But on a 2 post bridge, you're asking for trouble if you just tighten those screws. The odds of the posts shifting forward, or breaking that little wood section increases greatly.

Need more wraps on the E and A strings, more wraps will force the string down and improve break angle behind the nut. Don't need to worry about it with the D and G because of the string retainer.

Now are the gains pins shorted underneath already when you add the switch or does the switch it’s self short them automatically in the off position?
@FrankOlsonTwins8 күн бұрын
The gain pins are open until shunted. You could wire up the gain jack to be shunted until plugged in. In that case it would be high gain until the switch was plugged in. Then, the gain switch will be in charge of opening or closing the gain pins.
