Someone suggested this so I had the injectors tested after this happened. Cylinder 1 failed the test because of too much fuel return which means it would have been lean rather than rich so I'm not sure if this would have been a factor or not

@EscygtАй бұрын

@@Escygt No, not really. the crankshaft had picked up on one of the big end bearings and sheared off the big end cap. The carnage was quite impressive. I bought a used engine from Sheffield ,which I bought with a supposed failed timing chain. This was not the case. The pistons had burned/melted in cylinders 2 and 3. Timing chain was perfect. Its back in the car and I will try to get it going next week. I am not sure why these engines are so unreliable.

@danbland77764 ай бұрын
Sounds much better now. I admire your perseverance. I really hope the car works out for you. I've driven four cars with this engine and they are all a bit noisy at idle, and a little coarse thoughout the rev range. Engine noise itself once moving is low, though. All were more coarse than my N47 powered BMWs, but the Ingenium does better mpg and has great usable torque in the low and mid-range. Just not as progressive in power delivery as the BMW engine. Not like for like, at all. They both need oil and filter changes at around 8k, not the 21k or so, as per manufacturer intervals. JLRs even require their own versions of Shell Helix or Castrol Edge oils etc., not just generic 0w-30. BMWs only require the correct grade providing it is LL-04. I don't want to slate JLR products, so for balance, the ride in Jaguar XEs is superior to all BMWs, and handling when pushed is out of this world, but you won't notice it with normal driving. Jag styling, though subjective, is much nicer than pretty much anything else. Some areas of the interior quality are pretty average, and some are pretty good. BMWs have quality, but a Jag has glamour.
@Escygt4 ай бұрын
I'm really happy with the car itself, good on fuel, drives really well, nice interior. I'm still a bit unsure on the engine, it's a bit louder than others I've heard but it's done 10k miles since the rebuild so can't be too shabby
@danbland77764 ай бұрын
@@Escygt Perhaps it's the modified DPF. On my XE, if the adblue runs low (not even empty according to the dash), the engine runs rough and a bit noisier. It also throws a fault code about nitrous oxide levels in the exhaust. Filing the DEF tank and clearing the code causes it to run nicely again. I think the NOX sensors are each end of the DPF, hence my suspicion. You never know.

Hello Sir, I have the exact same vehicle, same year but only US Spec. I was driving her around 80mph and all of a sudden, it sounded like I had a set of Headers on her. I had no choice but to drive her home which was about 40 miles at the slowest of pace. I'm wondering what you think it is; could it be the DPF with a cracked filter or could it be a crack in the exhaust manifold? I plan on removing the DPF and manifold if necessary in my garage but it's winter time and cold as heck, so I'll wait til it warms a bit. But in your expert opinion, what do you think blew to instantly go from quiet to loud as heck like a set of Headers. And the sound is from the front, not the exhaust piping or muffler. Thank you in advance. Mr DJ
