Will a wheel alignment be needed after doing it this way?
@ExitOffroad26 күн бұрын
If you loosen the cams, just mark the exact starting point and set them back there. But if you're changing the springs or lift height, you'll need a new alignment anyway.

does the vehicle need to be lowered back down before tightening the cam (control arm) bolts. or is it ok to fully tighten them with the wheels off the ground?
@ExitOffroadАй бұрын
It needs to be done on the ground. The alignment shop will loosen them right away again. But doing it in the air preloads the bushings which is not good

How did the right side of the tailgate align to the body after the install? On another YT video, with the same Rusty's HD tire carrier, the right side of the tailgate ended up not aligning with the body, and it's pretty clear in his video. I'm thinking about this carrier, but wouldn't be happy with the amount of misalignment. Thanks in advance for any insight.
@ExitOffroadАй бұрын
I didn't put the top bracket in properly where it meets the roll bar. Still haven't fixed that and tried to realign everything. The right side isn't correct now but I haven't touched that jeep in forever to get it corrected

@@ExitOffroad The other YT guy I mentioned installed the brace on top of the roll bar and his tailgate is still misaligned. You may end up moving the brace to on top of the roll bar base, and be misaligned too. Good luck. Thanks for your reply.

@ccmmrrnn2 ай бұрын
I was just installing some EFS shocks (36-5489) in the front of my 2010 Jimny, and although not identical, the fact that you explained *why* things went the way they went makes me confident I've done it right, so thank you for a genuinely useful video. Mine went: wider concave washer > lipped bushing > (then instead if the middle washer you use here, the shock mount on the chassis has a concave 'washer' built in and the lip goes in the bore of that) > fat donut bushing > slightly smaller concave washer > nyloc nut. It was very difficult to hold the shock in place and compress the bushings enough to get the nut started no matter what orientation I had it in, so I did the above orientation as it seemed most mechanically sound. I could still be wrong, but I think it aligns with what you've done here.

When you add 2" of lift or more, that's when the spacers are needed. If you're only lifting the front, you probably won't need them

You don't have to remove the sway bar to swap the lower control arms. You can just disconnect the ends. Use a jack on the drivers side under the kiss piston to move the right side of the sway bar. Other than that lots of great tips in here. Thanks for taking the time to make the video

16:37 I ordered this clamp because I will get a Falcon Nexus stabilizer. I am a little confused as to how it mounts. My 1.75inch clamp that came with the kit is useless since I stripped the bolt hole. Not that I can use it with a pass through stabilizer anyways. So with that clamp style, how is the stabilizer mounted? A regular setup is "tie rod middle to axle bracket". It appears that with this clamp it would be "tie rod end to axle bracket."
@ExitOffroad5 ай бұрын
I couldn't use the bracket that is at that point the video. I couldn't see anyway for it to work with my stabilizer. The other style that Rusty's sell is what I needed where it's a bracket at the track bar then a clamp half way down the tie rod that the stabilizer attached to. www.rustysoffroad.com/collections/jl-wrangler-18-steering-parts-and-accessories/products/rustys-steering-stabilizer-axle-side-relocation-mount-jl-jt www.rustysoffroad.com/collections/jl-wrangler-18-steering-parts-and-accessories/products/rustys-1-75-diameter-tie-rod-clamp-steering-ram-stabilizer-mount

Rusty's products seem to be high quality but their quality control and knowledge of their products is terrible. Their installation instructions might as well be written in Chinese because they're wrong. That little tiny shudder on one bump is your concern? My dumb Jeep does that just driving between 50-60mph. I should've bought a 4Runner. haha All said and done, thank you for this! I have a Rusty's drag link and tie rod sitting on my garage floor that I have no idea what to do with and am considering just selling them. I have a little more confidence now to install this stuff.

Some instructions definitely aren't the greatest. This steering is super straight forward though. Aligning it on the ground isn't going to be as accurate as an alignment rack. I definitely had no steering issues with my old 4Runner

Great content. However, I know for a fact that having a nut tighten against a thread stop will damage the nut thread. The correct way should be torque settings + clocking. That way we dont increase our chances of a creeping nut thread failure.

Kdss system is great when it works. Another guy made a video where it only activates on turns. Plus repairs are scary expensive and lifts can affect your ride differently. Im getting a 4Runner without kdss to avoid any problems. And why dont the pro models have it if its so great? Cost?$ i don't buy it. It's mostly for high speed off-road not for crawling
