@@JuliaRtv50 We are clearing the overgrown hedge and trees. We have to remove the long sharp thorns because I can't add them to my compost pile. At least I got plenty mulch to use once I start transplanting around the garden.

I had a similar situation - female butternut flowers and many male zucchini flowers on nearby plants. I also get those little black ants all over my squash and cucumbers. I pollinated a couple of butternuts with a male zucchini and I managed to harvest 6 butternuts (of which at least 2 were "zucchabutts". I ate one last night - outstanding! Now I'm wondering if the seeds will propagate!
